My mother and I had not been to this location in a long time. We were in the neighborhood and we were looking forward to having burgers and brownies because we feel Kona has the best burgers and brownies in town. My 7 year old nephew was also with us. We were seated at approximately 4pm. We ordered beverages and an appetizer of spicy shrimp tempura. The beverages arrived. We still we deciding whether to order 1 or 2 burgers so we asked the waitress to come back. (I never got her name. She had long dark hair.) She quickly arrived back at our table to take our orders. About 20 minutes later I tried to flag her down to find out where the appetizer was. We could see that our meals were already done in the kitchen. We did not want everything at once. We saw our waitress in the restaurant speaking to another guy who we later found out was the manager. They were very involved in a conversation and not paying attention to anyone or anything going on around them. After a long wait, one of them finally saw us waving them down. I asked the waitress if our appetizer was was ready. She said, "You didnt order an appetizer. Maybe, you thought you did, but you couldnt decide what you wanted." I said, "I ordered an appetizer when I ordered the beverages because I am starving." Her response was, "No you didnt. Do you want me to put an order in for you now?" I told her again that I had put in the order as soon as she arrived at our table the first time, and that I would just take my entrées at this point. She huffed away. I was in shock at how I was being spoken to. Shortly after, the guy she was speaking with in the dining room earlier walked over to our table. He introduced himself as the manager. (Michael, I think) He said, "I understand you and the waitress had a misunderstanding." I told him that she forgot to put an order in, but I was fine with just getting the entrées at this point. He said, "She told me you never placed an order, and she is very upset." I was in complete shock and immediately made up my mind that I would no longer dine there with my family. I said, "I am the customer and I am upset and starving right now. Are you over her to defend her bad behavior, or make things right? How dare you walk over here to scold me as if I did something wrong. I did not disrespect or speak with her in an abrasive manner as she did with me. Now you are doing the same thing. I will take my business elsewhere. There are many other restaurants in this neighborhood." He said, "I realize there are other restaurants, and you are welcome to go to anyone of them. I am trying to see what I can do to make things right." I told him, "If you are trying to make things right, I certainly cant tell. You walked to my table and began to accuse me of aggravating your waitress." He said, "Youre right. I shouldnt have approached it that way. Im trying to make things right. I believe in great customer service. I know the customer is always right, but" I didnt allow him to finish his sentence. I told him that he doesnt know what great service is and thats why his staff doesnt know what great service is. I told him that he needed to redirect his behavior and his staffs behavior instead of trying to coach me in the moment. I am not his employee. At this point I was already out of my seat, with my family. I told him I would dine some where else. He again told me that I was welcome to dine somewhere else. This was the worst Ive ever been treated in a restaurant. I felt like I was being harassed! The manager should have walked over and apologized and that would have been the end of it. I will not recommend Kona Grill to anyone. Your employees and manager are RUDE, ABRASIVE, DISRESPECTFUL, INSULTING, etc! I left there at approximately 4:30pm. If you have cameras, please look at them. We were in the first booth from the hostess stand.

My son took me here as a belated Birthday dinner, he and his mother have raved about this place. So I tried not being negative, but from the Miso-soup that came with foreign particles from another meal (dirty dishes) to taking forever to bring the main course which obviously had been forgotten and sat under a heat lamp way too long to be served to customers. The noodles were overcooked and the shrimp in my meal looked to be 60/80 very small, but then they could have shrank from being overcooked. So if there was a host of flavors at one point, it turned into a blob of total disappointment . Then my son was almost served shrimp instead of chicken (which hes allergic too and shrimp shouldnt have even been in the dish that he ordered) The one star I give them is for their management response to the almost poisoning of my son. As for my experience it was awful, I could not eat all of anything that I ordered, nor would I have wanted too. I find fault in the servers as well as kitchen staff, the servers were slow and clumsy and his unresponsiveness to my complaint on the soup left me feeling that this is a common occurrence there. The kitchen staff for not doing their jobs in either preparation or inspection of plates leaving their kitchen. I personally feel that there is no way that a plate that looked as bad as what was placed in front of me should have ever left the kitchen My stomach was tied in knots all night from the little I did eat, I personally will not go back, first impressions go a long way and I was far from impressed

We stumbled across this place after a movie and decided to have lunch. We dined on the patio. We waited quite a bit for service. The menu is odd. Sushi, sandwiches, steak, etc. Just seemed a little jumbled. I ordered their Cuban sandwich. It was pretty tasty, not the best but not the worst. The fries were hot and fresh, despite our wait. My fiance ordered the burger with bacon. The bacon was a huge portion, cooked perfectly. The burger itself was very flavorful. The edemame we ordered for an app however was a disappointment. Very undercooked and crunchy. Barely even warm. Plus we were surprised with a free noodle in the bottom of the bowl. Thanks...i think. The service was lacking, friendly enough server, just very slow. They werent even busy. Not sure well be back. Overpriced for under impressive food.

When my husband and I came in, we were seated at a booth close to the front door. It was pretty warm and there were 5-6 gnats on the table and silverware. The hostess saw me bat the gnats away, but seated us anyway. After a couple of minutes, we asked to be seated elsewhere, away from the front door, hoping that there wouldnt be any gnat/heat issues farther back in the restaurant. However, we quickly discovered that the heat and gnats would be issues no matter where we sat. In addition, the heat makes the sushi kitchen pretty smelly. Our drinks were good...but I had to keep a napkin on top of my wine. The food tasted good, but I barely ate any of it I was so grossed out. The service was good. Very friendly waiter who apologized about the issues mentioned. But we will NEVER be coming back to this place.
