Bourbon Marshmallow Crème...that is all. Honestly, I could stop there and be happy with this review. You may think Im easily satisfied but I was absolutely floored by the taste of that particular accompaniment to the Sweet Potato Fries. Alrighty, enough about my obsession with Bourbon and Marshmallows. The Village Anchor is a rare combination of classy and fun. My folks were in town over the weekend and I had heard good things about this Anchorage favorite, so we decided to give it a try. If you happen to be familiar with Village Tavern, you will find The Village Anchor is very similar. The diversity of food is very appealing. Generally, all entrees find their origins in American cuisine. Eager to try a unique take on Louisvilles delicacy (if you can call it that), I ordered the "Hotter Brown". Just so youre aware, I have enjoyed the original "Hot Brown" at the actual Brown Hotel in downtown Louisville which guaranteed its authenticity. I can say, without a doubt, Village Anchors Hotter Brown was far and above better than its namesake. Finally, it was a pleasant surprise to be greeted so kindly by the servers here. As soon as my parents and I stepped inside, it was obvious this is the place John Schnatter or Papa Johns frequents. Its a fine establishment. Yet, we were treated like any other guests. Please take note: if you wish to sit in the main dining area, reservations are required. Fret not, if you do not make a reservation! There is plenty of space in the outdoor patio area below the main floor. Undoubtedly, I will continue to set sail for The Village Anchor when in need of a superb dining experience!

my husbands birthday was today and he decided he wanted to go here. he likes the pretty drive into anchorage. we went at 6:30 with our two children who are 7 and 8 and more well behaved than most adults i know. we came in and there were several tables open. we were asked if we had a reservation, which we did not. we were told that there were no open tables except on the patio. it is in a tent, but the windchill was below 20 degrees tonight. we said that we would just like to wait and the host, a gentleman of around 30 with dark hair, told us we could not be seated in the restaurant for 3 hours. i could understand an hour. but we felt that this was a tactic to make us feel that we were not welcome. a well meaning relative keeps purchasing gift cards to this establishment. this is the second negative experience i have had here. the staff is not very nice and the food is not good, and they have very few vegetarian options. i worked in fine dining when in college and find the attitude towards families rude. we were dressed well, well groomed and polite customers. the wonderful thing about louisville is that there are so many options when dining out. i implore you, chose to go elsewhere. the staff was rude and snobby both times and should question being in the service industry. this is no way to run a business. after a very unapologetic conversation with the owner i feel even worse.

Excellent. One of Louisvilles finest! I cant believe the people posting before me went to the same restaurant that I did. I believe this place is one of the few places that you can feel comfortable in wearing whatever you please, spend a reasonable amount of money, and enjoy food that is no less than exceptional. The Cobb Rollers are my favorite and the fish tacos a close second. My favorite entree is Kevins meatloaf burger. I like to go on wednesdays when you can get ANY bottle of wine 1/2 price and on tuesdays where you can eat AND drink for only 10 dollars. Ive been typing this and all the while trying to figure out which restaurant the people below me accidentally walked into. The Village Anchors opulent atmosphere up-stairs is the perfect backdrop for a romantic dinner for two or a glamorous "after-six" cocktail party with friends, while the Sea Hag down-stairs is the perfect place to come as you are and enjoy a Falls City and a ballgame with the guys. You may even run into a local celebrity. I love this place and I will continue eating here for years to come. It would take a lot for them to make me mad as the service that I always receive is friendly, polite, and thurough.

Took my wife, my boss and his wife to dinner last night. Service was ok. Food wasnt. The goat cheese app. which I usually enjoy was over-breaded and over-cooked. They didnt put enough bread on the plate. Half the app was leftover with no bread. I got the salmon entree. The potato cake it was served on was horrible. The green beans on the side were as plain as they could be. My bosses wife got the meatloaf. She only ate 1/4 of it. My boss got the hot brown. He never commented one way or the other. My wife got a side of broccoli that was really a side of butter with lots of salt. My wife asked for some bread. She was brought a 3 inch price, like they were rationing it. My boss asked for bread too. It was embarrassing what they brought him. Our water glasses werent attended to when we were read the desert list the only thing anyone wanted was to get out of there. Too bad. My out of town guests werent treated to the kind of meal I wont be back again, and definitely wont recommend the Anchor to anyone.

I have been to the Village Anchor several times, and I usually LOVE it! However, this past visit was very different. I want to start by saying that the food and server were very good, though the prices have gotten ridiculously high - $16 for a SMALL brie starter is stupid. We made reservations two weeks in advance, requested to be inside because I have a 6-month-old, but we were put outside in the tent, which has tears in it. Im pretty sure that they had the air-con on as well... Put it this way: everyone in the tent were wearing their coats! Also, they were completely unprepared for my son. We said six adults and a baby when we made the reservations. They put us in the middle of the room, leaving no room to put the child. Luckily, hes really well-behaved and we all took turns holding him and feeding him banana (which I brought because Im sure theyd charge $10 for one!). What was supposed to be a fun, friends Christmas, turned out to be $78 worth of Siberian cold torture!

Rudest. Waiter. Ever. He accused my friend of lying about her wine (that shed taken one sip of) being bad, she was like... umm you are welcome to smell it yourself...?! He said, Ill not only smell it, Ill taste it... and proceeded to GRAB THE GLASS AND TAKE A SIP. He was rude (cold, dismissive), forgetful and screwed up bringing stuff to the table twice. Off night or not, there where too many things that went wrong with him. The restaurant itself was ok, but I couldnt even give it a half a chance with the taint of such an awful server. to top it off they also had a totally gauche blurb on the bill folder to the effect of "we expect a 20-25% tip for our servers off the bat". Really was the final straw.
