My family and I are foodies !!! From Seki-sans Sushi to the Autobahn German buffet in Columbus, Ohio to finding the best Indian food this side of the Mississippi. Well, we found it. Banana Leaf needs some business pointers (ie: add some Indian music, better lighting at the buffet table and a little sprucing up) but the food is a shear delight. The owners are truly nice people and offer outstanding service (as long as they are not slammed with business as does happen there occasionally). My friend who has eaten with the best of them on the continent of India says eating at Banana Leaf is like eating at a host families house (with all the love that a great meal brings). This place is a mom and pop shop like Sekis (no frills, just great food and they can cater as well !). With the three types of cuisine (North Indian, South Indian and Malaysian, you will really get some variety). Tandoori chicken, youve never had it like this. They have a hot and rich dish in a deep red sauce with handfuls of giant assorted whole hot peppers that I crave everyday (yes, its the stuff a good dream is made of). Thanks Ramish and his lovely wife for making great food that we crave often !!! =)

I recently relocated here from the New York Metro area and have been all over Jackson Heights where you can find all the best authentic Indian food . Ive been to India and cook Indian food all the time...I must say Banana Leaf is something I least expected to find outside of New York or even India. It is completely delicious and authentic with a GREAT menu with a variety of Malaysian, South Indian, North Indian and Indo-Chinese food. The Samosa Chat is out of this world (a delicacy in itself), Dosa is incredible, great appetizers and main courses. Great place for vegetarians like myself. The appearance of the place isnt that all appealing but from what Ive found in my worldly travels, the hole in the walls always have the best food

The food was decent but not great. The food was decently flavored and spiced but seemed indistinct, like it had all been made hours before and just sat around instead of the excellent Indian food we are used to at home in San Francisco. The staff was inattentive and seemed disinterested and distracted though they were pleasant enough. On the positive side they did know what was gluten-free and I felt I could trust them on their recommendations which is a big plus while traveling. I did not have a gluten reaction after the meal either, another huge plus! I would definitely go again if traveling in Lexington but I just cant give it a 5 star as it could be so much better if the food were more freshly made.

This small joint is as basic as it gets - theyre showing Bollywood music videos on the TV and sometimes you have trouble moving around. But once the food arrives, that is all youll care about. Absolutely outstanding. Service has been "ok" - so 4/5 not 5/5 on this. They keep the water filled but Ive sat with an empty beer glass from time to time. PSST: guys, Beer is high profit - you should refill/replace mine with an ice cold NEW one quickly. One thing happened once - my beer was NOT cold and was disappointed. I like my beer really, really cold - especially with spicy food.

I read all the reviews on here and decided to give it a try myself. They were all spot on. This place is a gem! It is a hole a in the wall, and they dont waste much energy or money on decorations or stuff like that. It isnt a dump by any means though. The samosas are great! So are the dosas! If youre on the fence about going here, do it. You will not regret it.

I am from Sri Lanka. tried many times in Banana Leaf, consistent quality and friendly service. My favorite – hot & spice chicken dosa, Malaysian style fried noodle, Goat Varuval & kottu parota. used to get fresh layered paroto on special request. Happy to bring my friends and relatives to Banana Leaf.

Awesome Restaurant. Great food and their spice scale is calibrated to a person who is not accustomed to spices. Best service I ever received in any Indian restaurant. The only drawback was that is isnt that obvious where it is from the street.

This place has a ma&pa feel to it, and the inside isnt much to look at, but the Dosas are great. Thats why we go there for the dosas. Other food is average.

The food may pale slightly but the surroundings, i.e. cleanliness, here in the U.S. are hard to squabble over. Get off your high horse and enjoy the culture.

Loved this place. Dont be scared off by the storefront feel. This place has great food, and I like their take on Southern Indian.
