We eat there frequently & last weekend I ordered the DosXX fish tacos. Waitress said she thought they were out of beer battered fish. A manger was standing nearby & overheard her & told me that he thinks they still have some and to go ahead and order it. I said ok then. I did. When our food came, I had "grilled" fish tacos and not the DosXX ones plus I got black beans instead of the refried ones I ordered. I told the waitress this isnt what I ordered & just then the manager comes back out & sees that the order wasnt right. It wasnt my waitresss fault. She TOLD me they were out, so I ordered the La Bandera. By the time I got my plate, my girlfrinds dinner was over half finished. So to make it better to me. Our dinner was free that evening & he gave us 2 more free dinners for the next time we came in. I gave the waitress an $8 tip for being good about it all & feeling sorry that my order got screwed up. Actually I went in there in the first place thinking they still had the all you can eat taco special going on & it was over with. It is still a good place to go eat & relax over dinner. I think they did a good deed for messing up my dining experience for that particular evening & I really didnt mind the extra wait......someone else mighta screamed at them, but I am not that way. My experience with them was good. AND on another occassion 2-3 years ago there, we had just placed an order when a big thunderstorm came thru one evening & knocked out the power. The power was off for like 30+ minutes. It wasnt crowded that night anyway & the manager then came to us & gave us like 7-8 empanada coupons and 3-4 free con queso coupons for our inconvenience due to the thunderstorm. All I have to say is that the Topeka "On the Border" does good by its customers.......for ME at least. :)

The food has always good but the service is pretty hit or miss and the day of the week or time of day doesnt seem to influence it that much. Over the last year we have had mostly phenomenal service where they are on top of everything, refills on drinks and chips happen before we finish one or the other, and the food comes out quickly. Every once in a while though we get a meal like one we had recently where we wait 15-20 minutes for any chips to be dropped off, we wait an additional 10 minutes after that for drinks to be delivered and our order was finally taken, then an additional 20 minutes after that before food was delivered with a refill only offered once the food was finally delivered, and then awkwardly sitting there for 10 minutes with cleared plates a to go box waiting for the check to be delivered so we can pay and our waitress no where to be seen.

For the first time eating here, we had a waitress with an attitude! She was horrible, more interested in cleaning tables! We had to ask for silverware after our food got brought out, it took her 7 minutes to bring it to us. When I asked her for more napkins to wipe up my drink that she spilled on the table, she snapped back, thats what Im getting! There was a large pool of liquid of some sort under the table. Our waitress never came back to our table to ask how everything was or if we needed anything. Then she turned us over to another waitress to pick up our plates and bring our bill. I guess she was busier cleaning off tables! No gratuity!

Love On the Border. I think they have the best, fresh, crispiest tortilla chips and hot salsa of any Mexican restaurant anywhere. Also, I like to watch my weight and I can go there and have their Skinny Margaritas for only 100 calories a glass. Sure wish they would sell those by the bottle at the liquor stores. I dont normally eat dinners, as I just dont eat alot, but do love their guacamole dip they fix at the table.....and thats my dinner.

Can not get the order right for nothing sent out cold meat not once but twice and put rice in the other plate after told no rice at all the manager took my meal off and it still cost is 50 bucks for food that was not any good will not return but waitress was nice just did not pay attention to the order before she brought it out or the no rice would not of ended up on the palate

The food was great but the server wasnt she rolled her eyes at my group and yelled and even double charged us. All because she had an aditude because my little brother spilt a drink I think shes childish its ridiculous but the thing that got me was that after she did something wrong or bad she would avoid my table. Food GREAT Service NOT

I typically do enjoy On The Border when we want something mainstream and reliable; the Topeka location was disappointing though. The entire restaurant smelled like raw sewage and it was not clean. Service was very slow, although our server was polite. Food was good, what I would expect from OTB. Definitely needs better management.

Probably our favorite place in town. Its a chain yes, but the food quality is consistently good which is something that cannot be said for the vast majority of Topeka restaurants both chains and mom and pop shops...

Clean place. The waitress that helped us was very kind and provided good service. While waiting for the food we got chips with salsa and cheese dip. The food was served soon and was delicious.

Best atmosphere of the Mexican restaurants in Topeka. Their food is pretty good but the local joints are better in my opinion. On a few visits the guacamole was tasteless.

This place was fairly nice. Lately in 2016 a bit disorganized and we get really small portions of to go queso and salsa now. Also long waits. Before 2015 it was a 5 star.

If you want good Mexican food northeast Kansas isnt the best area in the world. Your best bet is On The Border in Topeka when it comes to good Mexican food.

Lost my to go order and then waited another 15 mins to get it right. Lukewarm food and didnt ask me to make it right so back there I will NEVER return.
