Was in Dubuque, IA today picking up a JD tractor. After making my wife wait 1 hour she told me I needed to treat her to a coffee. She said she found a place on Google... Monks. What a find. It reminded me of the old, 2-story, brick buildings found in German Village in Columbus, OH... inviting and quaint, a real "feel good" sort of place. Inside you are surrounded by brick, a gemisch of comfortable seating and various pieces of art and bric-a-brac... an intimate setting shared with people that were both friendly and engaging. They offer a bar with a fine assortment of whiskeys and craft beers along with the regular players, various sweet treats, possibly breakfast sandwiches (as mentioned by a neighboring merchant), live music in the lower level... and first and foremost coffee. My wife had a Chai Latte... Rich and Creamy. She loved it. I had a cappuccino... It was perfect. I dont say this lightly. It is my ongoing quest. I rarely give 5-stars for anything. I always tell friends something has to make my toes bend back and my eyes to roll into my noggin before I would doll out a "5"... But a perfect cup of cappuccino and a place so darned comfortable gets it hands down... Kudos!!!

Pretty awesome hangout. Had a Caramel Iced Vanilla prepared very well. Also, ordered a Chai Latte after afterwards to warm myself back up. The Small Chai Latte was actually in a bigger cup which gave me more value for my buck. Arrived around 4pm to a pretty friendly group of people very mindful of there voice tones. Music was at a great volume not overwhelming at all actually pretty soothing (some sort of soft rock). Very Clean establishment. Will definitely return. The woman working the coffee (Emily I believe her name is) was very informative with me asking a million and one questions. I am very likely to return.

Monks Kaffee Pub is one of my favorite local hangouts. Start your morning with an espresso or a hot rooibos tea. Bring your lunch and pick up an Izze soda. Then come back after work and indulge in their wide variety of beer and whiskey (they have other alcohol as well, but I highly suggest the beer and whiskey!) Their "main" floor consists of the bar, two rooms with seating and two bathrooms. Head to the basement for the game room (bumper pool!) and another room where youll find live music. On off nights, Ive found it to be fairly quiet in the basement.

Best coffee shop in Dubuque. I am somewhat of a coffee snob and always on the lookout for a good dark roast. Monks has great service and an interesting layout. For example, people watch on the main floor or go downstairs for a mean game of bumper pool! Bottom line, however, is a great cup of coffee that will keep me coming back.

Stopped for a quickie and it was a goodie. Hot Latte good, iced latte excellent. Variety of exotic beers including aged lager from netherlands for $11. We stuck with a local brew for mych cheaper Foosball in basement. Funny how everyone stopped what they were doing to watch us walk in. The cafe is freakier than us.

Great atmosphere for younger people. A grand selection of beer to choose from. Friendly and helpful employees who actually knew about the beer they had. Everyone there was really chill and drinks were fairly priced. Definitely recommend if bored on the weekend or even weeknight.

I love Monks. I would live here if I could. Warm, cozy, awesome music, very tasty drinks, and an assortment of fresh baked goods from East Mill Bakery up on Grandview. Whether you live in Dubuque or youre just passing through, Monks is the place to be.

Its not very often when I travel that I can find an awesome americano, kombucha, great bourbon, essential oils and comfortable chairs all in one place. Not the friendliest of folks but they do everything else right. Really, really cool spot.

Wow. This place is about 25% 1990s coffee shop; 25% college basement party; and 50% super cozy bar with a killer beer selection. I stopped there on a whim (it was raining and in running distance from my car) and am so glad that I did.

Didnt have coffee but enjoyed the late night bevs. Staff was knowledgeable of what I wanted based on questions I asked. Highly recommend monks as a place to spend the night if youre looking for a low key, casual night.

Excellent drink options, friendly staff, unique environment, outdoor seating, and a great location. The pool and foosball tables, among live readings and music, made Monks an excellent night out.

Its a good relaxing atmosphere, a little dim so maybe not as much bookwork but great for laptop research with a small crew. Its also nice to get your coffee in a mug. Average small shop prices.

This coffee shop is unlike any other. Theres board games in one room and a bar in the next that yes serves specific coffee drinks and later serves alcohol. Downstairs theres foosball and pool.

A perfect balance of coffee and alcohol in an eclectic/artistic setting. Whether you need a drink to start or end your day, this is your place. If it isnt, it should be.

Very nice little cafe/pub to sit down, relax and have good conversation. Some nights of the week youll find musicians performing on the lower level.
