OK staff. Good sushi, or anything Japanese (sweet-flavored assortments) is great here. We ordered Chinese + Korean food, all pretty authentic. Everything seems decently priced, maybe a little bit on the medium-high side. The problem is that the portions are disappointing. $13 of any dish of the Chinese or Korean assortments give you hardly anything to start with. They give you little portions of meat, but jam-pack the whole thing with vegetables to make it seem like its an ideal amount. It wasnt. We ordered spicy everything, unfortunately, hardly spicy. Spicy, stir-fried squid was bland and tasteless. The spicy sauce seemed like it just was water + peppers so that it tasted hot. It did taste hot, but it had no flavor. Absolutely disappointing. We ordered spicy seafood soup. It looked hopeful, decent portions for the soup and lots of nice seafood stuffed into it. The soup, again, was tasteless. It had no comfort / savory bite to it. It tasted like the last drops of a soup that was clear. The spicy seafood soup should taste like any other crab styled soup, where the soup would taste with variety. It was literally just water, pepper, and if lucky: some seafood bite to the taste. It wasnt spicy either, unless I managed to trap the peppers in my throat and hoped the best. The sweet and sour beef / chicken was good. Tiny portions, overpriced. Dont go here if youve gone to a great korean / chinese restaurant at some point in your life. This place is flavorless compared to even Panda Express. Unfortunate. Do go here if you like foods with no tang or bite to it. I do give credit to this place for its heart and soul, they throw passion into cooking their meats near perfectly, but their spices and ingredients arent being used properly. Did I mention they have good sushi? Go here for sushi. Its pretty good.

Mandarin Grill and Sushi Bar – Great and I mean great food! Have been going to this restaurant for over a year never been treated as horrible as I have the last two times. We attend this restaurant atleast once a week if not more between take out. A week ago we had horrible service by one waitress and I thought maybe it was due to them being busy or stress, well I can honestly say that wasn’t the case last night. We returned with a couple of friends who had not even been and only purchased the groupon because of we told them to come with us and how great it was. Well, same watiress and horrible service – had to ask for service, remind her of our food, ask for our drinks, ask for more drinks, told wrong prices about items, and it wasn’t a great experince. When we have left the building our friends were told “eff” you by the waitress once the resturant was contacted they stated they could not help us as she was off the clock and it was no longer the problem of Mandarin. – As a business owner this reflects the comapny it self that waitress represents the company since being in a company shirt. The lack of large tip or if any at all was a reflection of her and how she was part of horrible service. After this experience me driving 35 -45 minutes to eat at the resturant will NEVER happen again. My husband, friends, and child have never been so disrespected by one person and a resturant for saying it is not the problem of them. Food wise great food – Serivce from one waitress ***SUCKS*** and based on the last two experinces I will ****NEVER**** return.

Ive been to mandarin before and the sushi is always good and so are their regular chineese dishes. The service is not always up to par though. I recently e-mailed them asking if they had any weekly specials and the manager (or owner?) Jessica responded with "No we dont do cheapo sales on our sushi, we leave that up to the local super markets" I thought this was kind of a condescending response. A simple no would have sufficed. I responded telling her I would take my "cheapo" business elsewhere. I find it hard to believe that a business with so much competition in the near are would be so rude to its customers, after reading the other reviews on google I see it is very common there. I would reccommend checking out Samurai instead if youre in the mood for sushi. Theyre fairly close and have specials on sushi and hibachi almost every day! Plus the staff is always super courteous.

My family ate there expecting decent food for the location. We ordered 3 rolls, for the adults and chicken fried rice for the kid. The sushi rolls were uneventful and small. Its really disappointing to order 2 expensive rolls and one inexpensive roll and have them all come out the same size. The chicken fried rice was bland and my kid wouldnt eat it. Im not sure how you screw up chicken fried rice but they did. The sushi was not off-putting but it was as if I could make it at home. Definitely not worth the money. We wont be back. You can get good sushi in Des Moines-go to Miyabi 9 in the East Village or Taki on 86th. Appare is also decent on 86th. Miyabi and Taki are the best, however.

The only positive quality of my sushi was that it did not actually taste "off." It did, however, taste like it had been soaked in water for several hours. The "10" piece sushi platter consisted of nine pieces, one of which was cut into two thinner pieces. The rice was not tangy enough and the seaweed salad too tangy; the seaweed on my sushi roll was crunchy-- maybe this is just a different way of doing things, but it certainly wasnt what Ive seen at any other restaurant, and it left a peculiar taste in my mouth. There is absolutely no way one could leave with a belly full of *sushi* for under $20.

Placed a carry out order and once it was picked up, we realized one of the rolls wasnt correct. I called and spoke to a woman who was quite rude. I told her I wanted to just let her know in cause the wrong food was given to another customer. She informed me that her husband had made it, and it was not wrong. The roll I ordered was supposed to have crab and avocado. The roll I received had tempura shrimp and cucumber. I can understand mistakes happen, but there is no excuse for being rude. I will not return to this restaurant.

Exceptional and fast! I usually call in and pick up my lunch, the Mandarin grill is very fast, generally 10 minutes and the food is always fresh and delicious. The Mandarin Grill is my "go to" place for a quick lunch. The staff are quite friendly and always greet me with a smile when I come in. Id recommend the Mandarin Grill to anyone for a sit down lunch or for a quick pickup when your in a hurry. --Bob

They do have the best Chinese food in the metro. However, tonight they did a wonderful job of getting us in on late notice. But, the server attempted to steal money. He added gratuity and did not bring back the change on a cash tab until I had to track him down. Also, we had a bone in our sesame chicken and no one apologized. He just said, "oh, I've never seen that here before." disgusting.

We tried a couple places that were highly recommended before finding this good little sushi place. I ordered the Firecracker roll, fiancee got the Autumn roll, both were great. Friendly staff, not loud, priced right at what Id expect to pay for a couple rolls. If youve been disappointed by the suggestions of locals, cough*CoolBasil*cough, check out Mandarin.
