I hate to leave a bad review, but my family waited for an hour once seated, got two meals, one incorrect, and waited another five minutes on two more (and another incorrect order), then my poor wife got her burrito ten minutes after that. Food wasnt as described on the menu, and not even so much as an apology for the the terrible service. Just go to El Azteca even if there is a wait. Sorry for the review, but this experience was totally unacceptable.

4.5 stars. Thank god. Finally a decent Mexican restaurant in Ames. Both La Fuente and El Azteca have gone to the gutters. Poor service and cut corners everywhere with the food. Los Altos has STRONG hand made margaritas (thanks Lorenzo). The items on the menu are consistent with the sterotypical Mexican restaurant, but the execution and flavor are far superior to other restaurants in ames. Definitely coming back.

This place has great food and very good customer service. The menu is extensive and theyre very good at customizing dishes to your needs. On my last visit I went with a vegan friend who had no problem finding something to eat. My husband and I are also on a keto diet and were able to order fajitas without rice, beans or tortillas and instead were given a larger salad for no charge. Will be returning.

Decided to try this place tonight with my sister, and you know, when you go for Mexican you expect it to taste like Mexican, not whatever that was, gave both my sister and I a lengthy period in the restroom after only a few bites and saying forget the rest with how terrible it was, I wasnt sure if I should write a bad review or write and apology to El Azteca.

Not sure what happened. We were excited to try this place based on the really great reviews but were really disappointed. Very bland. The food came out fast, actually too fast. The fajitas did not stay hot and the cheese in the quesadilla wasnt fully melted. Service was nice and attentive, but not enough to make up for everything else.

Excellent place and finally something else to choose from on the north side of town! Customer service is great, pricing is dead on with portion sizes that rival any other competitor in Ames. Give the chore burger a day in court they nail it every time!

We always get seated very quickly, even when it is busy. The staff is super friendly and the food and drinks are wonderful. We have yet to find a single thing on the menu that wasnt amazing. By far, the best Mexican restaurant in Ames.

This place has fantastic fajitas which work great for the Keto diet my friends are on. I enjoyed the vegetarian chimichanga made vegan by removing the cheese and sour cream and adding enchilada sauce.
