Ive heard rumors about this place for some time now, but am just now making my first venture this far up north. Let me tell you, Im disappointed in myself for waiting so long. This place has some incredible food and drink, and a really awesome atmosphere. Located just off Main Street in Zionsville, Salty Cowboy offers a variety of food and drink options including burgers, authentic Mexican tacos, and more tex-mex style tacos. As far as the quality of the food, these tacos every bit as good as good as Bakersfield, but you get more bang for your buck here. Their Salty Cowboy Margarita might also be my new favorite margarita in the city. I almost forgot to mention how good their table side guacamole is. Its a simple recipe with pico, pickled onions, salt, lime juice and avocado, but you get three whole avocados and its certainly an incredible way to start your night off right. There isnt a ton of seating so you might have to cozy up to the bar for a little while, but the wait was well worth it. If you consider yourself even the slightest bit of a taco fanatic, this is a must try to put on your Indy Bucket List.

This restaurant nestled in the heart of Zionsville was a fantastic find. I was enchanted with the decor from the moment I walked up to the converted house and inside did not disappoint. We were seated in about 5 minutes, and considering the general busyness of the night, I was suitably impressed. Service was attentive and thorough. The menu was diverse with Tex-Mex options the fit any palate. Our table ordered yucca fries, smoked brisket lettuce wraps and several of the a la carte tacos. We completely enjoyed every bite, especially the roho chicken included in many of the items....the food was flavorful and taste combinations creative. We highly recommend taking the time to drive up to Zionsville and check out this great little place.

The Salty Cowboy is an interesting mix of BBQ and TexMex items. I enjoyed one of each of their fish tacos. The fish was battered and fried, topped with nicely paired flavors from red chili sauce and pineapple, to coconut. The chips and dip appetizer was an excellent way to try their multiple salsas, queso, and guacamole. My wife had a burrito that was very large and easily the best value at the table, as it could have fed two of us. Overall, our meal and service was great. The food was hot and well prepared. Our only shock was the prices. $5.50 for 1 taco is a little extreme. For 2 adults and 2 kids under 5, our bill with tip was right at $70 and we skipped the adult beverages. I will come back but not very often.

Great service, pricey food that lacks flavor. This place is only open at dinnertime so its a bit hectic and congested indoors with people running everywhere. We had heard good things about it, but werent impressed at all. We got queso, a burrito, a kids quesadilla and 3 tacos and spent over $50. The descriptions on the menu all sound amazing but the food was just bland. The queso isnt the white cheese queso you get at a mexican restaurant so it wasnt very good. The quesadilla was pretty big (more than enough for our 2 young ones), but it wasnt that great either. My wife and I agreed, wed take authentic mexican any day over this and spend half the money as well!

Its more a 3 star review but I give them extra because its a really nice place. The thing I was disappointed about was the overall high prices, but I can accept that because again its a nicer place than most places around here. However, my order did not justify it at all. While other dishes looked big and people said they were really good, my tacos were less than acceptable, because they were very small, and the shells were soggy and fell apart immediately. I was left hungry and paid too much for that dish. I got 2 different tacos at 5.50 each and so I paid 11 dollars for about 8 bites.

My favorite place in Zionsville. Indoor and seasonal outdoor seating. Bar area is energetic. Food is excellent. Wide variety of tacos you can buy individually, as well as quesadillas and nachos. Not gourmet, but unique. The nachos for $12 is a mountain of food, better fit for two people. Recommend the Sugar Shack and Border quesadillas. And the Cowboy Troy nachos are outstanding, just dont hurt yourself. Not a redneck place as the name might suggest. They play a mix of music, from rock to country to pop.

The chips and guacamole is amazing. The tacos are great, especially the Carolina. The Jalepano margaritas are great as well. They also have a good selection of local craft beers on tap. Edit: Upon return visits, I have found the wait staff to be a bit slow and the bar to be too crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. They also seem to close early on slower nights. The food is still fantastic, but they no longer sell my favorite, the Carolina. Expect an hour or longer wait on Friday or Saturday.

I came here on a Saturday night and it was completely packed. There were no tables open and not even anywhere to stand near the bar. I guess thats just how it is in a town with so few bars.. The drink menu was pretty big and I was able to order one drink: some kind of spicy margarita. Unfortunately it was pretty diluted and tasted watered down. Id like to go back again sometime when its not as busy so I can see if the drinks are better when theyre not as rushed.

Really enjoyed this smaller restaurant in Zionsville. Inside was a unique western design, but we sat outside and enjoyed the evening. Servers were friendly and attentive.Food was all very good. Choices were primarily Mexican as expected, but there were unique twists with coconut and other combinations. Fresh guac made at the table was excellent. This place is a fine option for famimy, friends, or business meal.

I would say its interesting place with limited parking and seating. Good food but with the small town restaurant feel. Enjoyed the tacos and nachos. The hostess does need more training on timing and customer service. I believe telling the same customer the waiting time is 1 hour, than 15 mins, than 40 mins than 5 mins within the fisrt 20 mins is very confusing and makes the dinner start off uncomfortable.

Katie was an AWESOME waitress!!! Her personality and service made the total experience amazing. I got a Margarita as it was on special for $5 on Sundays. The Margarita was good but couldve been stronger. My friend ordered the churros which were pretty good. The best thing about the restaurant is that they have an outdoor patio which will be awesome for the summer and spring time. I cant wait to go back!

Pros: Best guacamole Ive had, ever. And I lived in San Antonio for 3 years. Street-style tacos were very good. Angry Jalapeño was my fav. Seriously, get some guacamole. Omg Service was friendly Cons: Long wait for table and food. Like borderline made me angry. Brisket was a little dry. If the food had come out 20 min sooner, this would have been a 5 star review. Get the guacamole!!!
