My husband and I ate here for our 13th anniversary on a whim. Luckily for us, it was a Monday evening so there was no waiting to be seated. From the host seating us by the window (I asked for the view of the garden), to the lovely decor, to the waiter knowledgeably answering all of our questions about the menu and suggesting the perfect wine, to the basket of crusty bread that was constantly refilled by efficient busboys, every detail was perfect. Appetizers: My gnocchi (spinach) was delectable and even better with fresh grated Parmesan. My husbands meatballs with marinara was a feast for the eyes and taste buds alike. Entrees: My chicken limone was to-die-for! Every bite of the zesty chicken, perfectly spiced roasted veggies and orzo was better than the last. I had filled up on the bread so I was only able to eat half - scoring me the best lunch ever the next day! My husband had the chicken vesuvio and he couldnt get over the perfect combination of sauce/herbs, roasted potatoes, and of course the crisp chicken. He was also able to save some for lunch for the next day. Dessert: Since we were so full (see filling dishes and esp. the bread basket above) we opted to share the mini canoli and stuffed strawberry. Now the canoli was good. Crispy and creamy and nutty too. But that stuffed strawberry was amazing! Stuffed with what, you ask? Marscapone and chocolate sauce of course! We were crossing forks to get the last bite of that deliciousness. The portions are very generous so the only plate that was finished all night (including the apps) was the desert! Thats how good it was! I dont think I can wait until our next anniversary to eat there again...time to think of another reason to celebrate!

I went for a group holiday lunch. Its a big space, and good for events. They take reservations. The service was generally good, and quick. The portions are big. Each of the entrees would have been enough for two, maybe with a soup and salad or app to start. Theres lots of parking, its basically in an office park, so theres plenty of space around. The lasagna was good, very meaty and piping hot. We ordered a variety of things, and everyone was happy with their food. The tomato soup was creamy and very ricy, a decent-sized bowl. The lights have these cool glass lampshades hanging from the ceiling, although my friends thought the ceiling was way too high for these lights, and the glass was wasted. The only issue was a weird one, admittedly--WHY was my water glass 90% filled with ice? It was genuinely undrinkable, not just because it was so cold, but because there was no water, so I would have been stuck chewing on ice. I asked for water and not ice, and they did it that one time, then continued dumping in ice for the rest of lunch. By the end it was all I could think about. Punishment for not ordering a soda I guess? They seemed pretty aggressive in pushing canned soda refills.

The star is for the bartender, she was great and thats where anything good about this place stops. Our waiter was mute. Hed come stand at our table and stare at us without saying a word. I ordered the risotto, it was undercooked rice with a runny sauce and a bunch of ingredients that were not listed on the menu. I sent it back and ordered a salad. "What are the red things?" asked my boyfriend. Oh those were the apples, so drenched in raspberry vinaigrette they looked like beets. When the bill came we were charged for the meal I sent back. In all my years of dinning out I might have sent food back once, maybe twice, but when something isnt right Ive always had managers come to the table to apologize or try to rectify the situation. Not at Cafe Borgia.

This is another one of my favorite places to dine. The decor is nicely done and welcoming and the staff helpful and friendly. Ive arrived at busy times and am usually seated within a few minutes. They have a fantastic selection of wonderful Italian fare from Primavera to Roman style pizza. I suggest you try this most pleasurable combination: Start with the marinated olives or olive tapanade (or both!). Order a vodka martini with blue cheese olives and cap it with one of their fine pizzas. Combine that with the never ending bread the efficient wait staff brings and you will be in heaven. Whatever you choose you owe it to yourself to drop by and give it a try.

The one star was for our waitress who felt helpless. Ordered calamari which was under seasoned and bland. Ordered a drink which tasted watered down. Asked for them to add more flavor and sweatner the waitress already told me they dont do that. I asked for the manager. The bartended/manager/owner all the same person came over and said she wasnt fixing it and I had to pay for it. I didnt drink it nor did we eat the calamari and I cancelled our food order and left taking the high road because I did pay. Obvisiously, the owner should not be fixing drinks she should be working on her customers experience in her restaurant. Also, the table next to me was not happy either.

The food was decent but the manager or whoever she was made the experience a bad one. I booked a room for 16 for my Dads birthday party. 3 people didnt show and they told me Id have to pay for those meals anyway. I was not informed ahead of time. I tried to show the email correspondence but she didnt care to look at it. She said, "it just doesnt work that way." Then she said she was going to move us up and add tables in the room to make up for the loss. She disrupted us and our celebration and no one was seated at those tables they put in there. We needed fresh waters because of them moving our stuff around. Well never go back there again.

They should never judge a book by its cover. I walked in today and there mouths just dropped I was wearing jogging pants and hoodie. All I was doing was just taking my dad to Dr.Kassar office didnt know it was a four hour visit (chemo). I will never go there again just because how they treat ppl. The bartender and the nerve to tell the pork shanks was to much for me huh .And the food was way over priced had better at a bar and grill spots. Btw my jogging pants did have a hole in them but never the less it the only place to eat around that area.

I used to LOVE this place when it was in its cozy spot in Lansing. Since it moved to Munster, I have been disappointed time and time again. There is NOTHING authentically Italian about their food; they dont even have olive oil on the tables. I used to live for the penne porcini, but they have taken it off the menu because porcini mushrooms are "too expensive." The last waitress I had was filled with ZERO personality and acted like minimal requests were a nuisance. I wish I could give this place ZERO stars. Disappointing. Dont bother.

Was at Borgia again tonight. Such an amazing place. Food, decor, service. WOW. I just cant understand the people Who complain about the place. Its too noisy in here. They obviously have no idea what family italian dining is supposed to be. Karen and Mike have gotten it so right. Even better then any of the italian eateries in Little Italy NYC. BRAVO TO CAFÉ BORGIA the only italian restaurant i want to go to in all of northwest Indiana
