Based on location and one recommendation, I selected the Legend café as the restaurant to take a party of 8, including my uncle for his 91st birthday. I was very disappointed with the experience. I called a week in advance expressing a concern about noise levels, asking if I can make a reservation for a table in the quieter side of the restaurant due to my elderly Uncle’s hearing problems. I was told I could reserve a table for 8 on the quieter side, but that I should call a day in advance, and it would be handled. So I called the day prior to make sure it got handled. My 91 year old uncle has a hearing aid that turns loud ambient noise into utter chaos. When we got to the restaurant, in spite of what I was told about the table I reserved, the staff went ahead and seated another party at the table reserved for us. The hostess who took my reservation said no problem, we’ll find another table. Well, it WAS a problem, a big problem! She didn’t seem to get what I had been trying to tell her about noise levels, figuring that any place she could seat us would be just fine. She seated us in the loudest side of the restaurant next to the entrance to the kitchen, which was even louder, and there was constant foot traffic buzzing our table from the wait staff coming and going from the kitchen, while a cook was periodically yelling out orders from the kitchen. My uncle was a disoriented wreck, and visibly confused. That issue alone made dinner at the Legend Café a complete disaster for us; one in which the staff appeared to be either insensitive and indifferent, or just ignorant to the problem. Beyond that, the service for the main course was slow, and the wait for desert was unacceptably long. The desert took almost as long as the main course to be brought to the table! One positive comment is that the food was prepared well and tasted just fine. However, with all of the advance notice (and explanation of our needs) that I gave the restaurant when making my reservation, I can only say the Legend Café failed us that night. There are little things and big things that highlight the level of professionalism (or lack of) within a business. In this case, the reservation issue was a BIG thing. Among the little things was the owner’s lack of interest in discussing this issue over the phone, suggesting that I just describe my problem to him in an email. Another little thing is the appearance of the staff. I don’t find it particularly professional for a group of adults arriving for dinner to be met by a millennial hostess with body piercings, and “fishing tackle” in her nose. I will say again that the food was fine, but given everything else, I won’t be back to the Legend Café.

I have lived on the East Side for 2 years now and I am just now visiting The Legend, and that is a decision I fully regret. The outside of the building always made it seem more formal and dark, but really the inside is more like a sun porch, with bright yellow walls & brick, painting of clouds and large windows. The meal starts out with bread, and it is fresh and steaming! Side salads and soups do not come with the meal, though they are just a few dollars to add. Then for the main courses: so hearty, well cooked, and just pure comfort food all around that you cant leave dissatisfied. My table went for the crunchy chicken, pork tenderloin, meatloaf and shrimp risotto. As a notorious mashed potato snob, theirs passed the test with flying colors with real thick chunks of potatoes and a easy flavor of garlic and butter. The roasted brussel spouts were light and crispy, paired with the smooth, gravy covered meatloaf. Though I did not personally try the risotto, I was told it was cooked to absolute perfection, which can be quite a challenge. We skipped on the desserts this time, but no cobbler will escape unturned the next! The Legend is a full 5 in my book, great service, delicious food, easy atmosphere, and a cheap(er) price tag. When I come out of a restaurant spending less than $18 a person including tip and tax on a full meal on this level, you can guarantee Im coming back.

I have never been so deathly ill. The food was horrible but we ate it anyway because we were starving and had a nearly absent waitress. Needless to say we were taking turns throwing up and had to miss work today. I called to let them know that they might want to check the freshness of their walleye or their pork tenderloin. We shared our meals so I have no idea which is to blame. I asked to speak with the owner or manager. They blew me off. We wont be back EVER. I would give them ZERO stars if it was possible.

You will not be disappointed! This family owned restaurant is a gem. The staff are absolutely the best, as are the owners. The meal options are delicious and there is something for everyone. There are inexpensive, yet delicious options like the meatloaf and Dads Crunchy Chicken, or there are higher end meals like the shrimp risotto. The appetizers are great too. The shrimp cocktail is awesome. They also have a nice wine and beer list.

We went to The Legend for dinner with a friend who recommended it to us and we were not disappointed! Very friendly and attentive staff and outstanding food! We tried the Zucchini Cakes and enjoyed every single bite. The meals are all fresh, tasty and definitely worth more than just one visit. Great food, comfortable atmosphere, reasonable prices and a good choice of vegan/vegetarian meals as well as domestic and foreign wines!

I absolutely love this place. I come here frequently (sometimes multiple times a week). The food menu is small but full of great options. They often have specials and soups that are amazing. If youre a craft beer drinker, then take a minute to browse the list. They have some good ones. My favorite lunch meal is the black bean burger with pepper jack mac and cheese. Its a lot of food and its beyond good--all for $8 or so.

My wife and I have been enjoying the fantastic food fair at the Legend since 2011. We have had the pleasure of trying many of their recipes from Dads Crunchy Chicken to Moms Meatloaf. The Tilapia used to be my favorite dish but has since been removed from the menu. Everyone is friendly aND always offer to assist. I highly recommend trying this jewel tucked away in Irvington Indiana.

Unfortunately this place just doesnt do it for me. Ive been many times and each time I leave very disappointed. This past time the server refused to take my meal back when asked if it could be cooked a little longer as it was still pink inside. She told me to put gravy on it so I couldnt see the pink. Then I was made to pay for it anyway even though I couldnt eat it.

If youre not dressed up, you will be treated poorly. My mother in law, husband and I were shuffled around twice so that we would be sitting in the back of the restaurant by the kitchen door. The server was clearly uncomfortable with us and we felt profiled because we werent all three in business formal attire. What a mistake!

John and Kim are always so nice. Julie is also amazing. The food is always the best. Moms meatloaf and Dads crunchy chicken are perfect for a nice simple comfort meal. The more elaborate entrees change up and are always spot on. It is such a warm inviting atmosphere with unbelievably great food.
