I am a journalist and I recently brought a group of eight musician friends here while they were on tour, on the recommendation of friends in Bloomington. It was 9:35 pm, we had called ahead and they said they they were open til 10. At about 9:50 a woman started slamming the chairs down around us and we said "dont worry, we are almost done"-- and at 10 exactly, we started packing our stuff up, a few people were finishing up, and we look up and the entire staff is standing there glaring, and the cook comes out and stands there with her arms crossed--and its 10:02. Some of us work and have worked in the service industry--we get it, but seriously, they had been closed--by their own clock FOR TWO MINUTES. As I made it to the door, I could see the reflection of one of the servers, in the other dining room giving us the finger and making obscene gestures, for the delight of her co-workers, and assumed we couldnt see. I was stunned. The women I was with had just driven 16 hours from Canada to play a show for kids in Bloomington, and that was the sort of hospitality and welcome Bloomington had to offer. Thanks Laughing Planet, sorry we delayed FOUR ENTIRE MINUTES. You should just stop serving at 9:30, or tell people when they call that you are open until 10, but if you should be expected to be treated with outright hostility if you stay past 9:50 pm.

If instantaneous travel were possible, this is a place I would go regularly. I love that nearly everything at the restaurant is vegan, but it is so good that rather than questioning it, people come back for more of the huge cookies, moist cornbread, or the delicious Hungarian Mushroom soup (all of which are vegan). Then there are the burritos. I agree with previous assessments regarding a Californian influence. The only thing I would add is try the Smoky the Bearrito if they happen to have it. It is a little spicy, but so good. Finally, the service here is very friendly and caring. The first time I went, my burrito came out with beef instead of a meatless protein option (seitan). I mentioned it to the cashier and he took care of it, apologizing endlessly. I came back two days later with a group of eighteen and we all well taken care of without any mixups or a long wait.

My burrito was pretty bland. Great atmosphere, took forever to find a parking spot though. Id give it 1 more star if there were printed menus to look at. The description on the wall for what i got wasnt complete, there was a menu at the counter. Idk why though, i cant wait in line to look at the menu forever... Id love to see a burrito with guacamole beans etc. Id give 5 stars for that, if i could find it on a menu. Would really add flavor to my meal. Food was waay too pricey, almost $10 for a decent size bland burrito no sides no drink. :(

Usually have great service, but recently had the worst service ever. We ordered two entrees and chips and salsa. After about 15 minutes, they come out to tell us they no longer had the ingredients to make one of the entrees. We told them which one we would prefer in place, then it took another 15 minutes to get the food. The entree that did not need changed came out freezing cold and was missing the queso that it was supposed to come with. Very disappointed and probably wont be coming back any time soon.

You should try out the Laughing Planet Cafe. To me, its just the epitome of what life in Bloomington is about. When you walk in the place, you immediately see a relaxing and inviting decor, with lots of local, colorful art. Hey, you had me at Frank Zappa, Laughing Planet! The food is excellent, especially the California style burritos. They have lots of vegan and gluten free options. And the prices are very reasonable. And the outdoor patio is just such a cool, relaxing place to sit on a nice day.

They have flavorful, fresh, healthy food, and a chill atmosphere. I recommend their black bean and spinach burrito for newbies, my favorite is the Cuban burrito. Both their veg chili and mushroom soup are must-haves. Their cookies are great. Also want to mention that I have eaten here many times over the last fourteen years, and I have never had a bad experience. Not disputing that others have, but I would still rate this establishment as more welcoming and friendly than a lot of restaurants.

Not only did they try to charge me $13 for a (nasty tasting) cookie and a bowl of vegetables, but they were completely unprofessional. As I sat waiting for my food (to which they messed up and I had to wait another 5 minutes) they were talking bad about a fellow employee that got off a shift. I was very disappointed in my first experience at the laughing planet cafe and I will not be back. My advice is to go to Chipotle if you want food like this. You will save time AND money.

An interesting spot serving burritos, quesdillas, and bowls of various flavors. Most options, if not all, are vegetarian. Prices are very reasonable. I had a Thai Me Up burrito. It was like a Thai inspired stir fry in a whole wheat wrap. It was fairly bland so some salt and hot sauce helped out. This is a college town so please look past the unisex restroom with bathtub. We grabbed our lunch and enjoyed outdoor seating.

Ive been eating at this place as long as they have been in business and have watched it slowly go downhill. What used to be my favorite place to eat is now some of the worst food in town. Consistently cold, over priced for what you get and half the time they leave out part of your order. Used to, you couldnt hardly get a seat, not now. I cant believe the owner hasnt noticed a drop in revenue.

Plethora of unique menu options. The staff were very helpful with answering all of our questions about ingredients (we have pretty specific dietary restrictions). I had a delicious special item for that day and my boyfriend had a burrito. Both very tasty. Only downfall was that he asked for no rice on the burrito and received rice, so double check your order! I recommend this place!

Sunday lunch with a good friend, landed us at Laughing Planet. The outside patio of the Tahoe st. location is adorable. I havent been to the new location, yet, so I cant compare them. Though I have to say I really enjoy the location of this one, set behind the Main Street, back away from reality. I love it.

A friend of mine introduced me to the Laughing Planet while I was visiting. I loved that there were a lot of gluten-free, dairy-free options. I had the paleo bowl which was incredible. I really loved the flavor of the bowl. I liked it so much I went back on my own before I left town.

Ordered a burrito bowl, but it was bland-- seriously lacking seasoning, even salt. I should have gone to the nearby Chipotle, which is cheaper and has better chips/guac. Im giving 3 stars since LP uses local ingredients and the other menu items might be better.

Stopped for lunch and really enjoyed our wraps and all the options to choose from. A few of the items were spicier than we expected. Super flexible on gluten free / vegan etc. nice outdoor seating option too.
