This is really just a very generic Mexican restaurant, good reviews are generally written from people who have never tried Mexican food before. (The only thing this place does different from almost any other Mexican restaurant is smother things in cheese) Dont ever go here though the service is awful. Being busy is one thing but having to wait 30+ minutes for a server to even take a drink order is another thing. This place is close to my house so I used to just deal with it because of how conveniently close it was but then they really screwed me over--- I ordered a carryout meal for my girlfriend and myself at around 9:30 and their kitchen closes at 10:00, I figured 30 minutes is an acceptable amount of time to place an order before a place closes. They clearly gave us the oldest food they had and reheated some cheese, everything tasted awful. This is annoying and everything but at any decent restaurant when you immediately comeback and complain they would give you your money back or give you a credit. The manager there wrote my name down and the next time I went in we sat down and ate and I asked about it, I have worked several food jobs and all of them have a file for the people who get credits or anything, the manager asked me what the other managers name was (like why in the world would I take down his information?) and said that he did not know anything about it so I should get the other managers name next time, and just gave me a measly 10% off event though my credit should have been for 25$. This just shows how garbage the service is at this La Charreada 1st he is calling me a liar by saying I need to present proof the them that they messed up a week ago or they wont believe me, 2nd my story is really believable and I was basically a regular there and never complained about anything before that point (Just about any food place will give you whatever you want if you complain even if it is clearly not true because sometimes it is true), and 3rd I only got like 3$ off my order so I am still out 22$ because La Charreada has terrible management. --- Its wait staff is totally incompetent, really avoid this place like the plague, service is awful here because the owner just hires his increasingly incompetent friends and family and pays them in cash so they can avoid being taxed. This place is really sketchy dont go here EVER, Casa Brave is right near the mall and has a much better wait staff and managers in case you ever do have a problem or want to have someone take your order within the first 20 minutes of arriving

We have gone to La Charreada fairly regularly for the last several years and the food has consistently been excellent. The fajitas are particularly good. In many restaurants the fajitas will contain a handful of green peppers and onions soaked in oil. The fajitas here contain onions, green, red, and yellow peppers, sliced tomatoes, mushrooms, potato cubes, carrots, zucchini, yellow squash sometimes, and what appears to be jicama, and there is not a huge pool of oil or grease leftover (and the single serving size always provides enough for my husband to have leftovers the next day). The beans in the bean burritos have real, whole beans in them, not the homogenized mush you so often find. We have always found the service to be excellent and we particularly like the bar room ever since it has been remodeled a few years ago. Finally you will find the price of the beers on tap to be extremely reasonable, especially considering what other bars or restaurants charge in this college town.

Overall I really dislike this place. On the lounge side there are a number of TVs showing loud, awful music videos and ESPN. One person in my party was billed for something she didnt order, and two others were given the wrong drinks. I paid for a $10 burrito and it was wrapped in wax paper as if Id ordered it to go, and I didnt get anything else on the plate (no rice, beans, salad, etc). Our waters were never refilled, and when I asked for a pint of Upland our waiter asked if I wanted a 16 or 32 oz. Uhm. The place was only about half-full so I dont know what the deal was. Apart from the terrible service, the food is bland. Go to a real Mexican place in Bloomington like El Norteno. Even Casa Brava is better. Hell, Taco Bell is better. At least there you get what you pay for.

Used to be really good but quality of food has declined over the years. Its kind of hit and miss whether or not the food is good and the service. Im going to estimate that more than half the time, its not worth it. I live right next door to the restaurant, and our last carry out order was horrible. You never know if they fried the chips that day or the day before. Our food was cold and there wasnt enough time between the time I called and walked there less than 10 minutes in order for the food to get that cold. Its just too inconsistent and there are better Mexican restaurants in town.

I was a HUGE fan of La Charreada for the last year. However, my last trip there has changed my opinion. I will never return. After eating steak chili verde on March 26, 2010, I went home and developed SEVERE food poisoning. I was vomiting and had explosive diarrhea for over 24 hours, not only ruining my weekend, but also ruining the weekend for friends that were visiting. Nobody wants to hang out with someone with their head and rear end in a toilet all day! I do not care how good the food is, a classy restaurant will never get its customers sick. Adios!

We have ate at this restaurant twice now, and both times have had a great experience. Just recently, we went on Halloween, and the employees were dressed in costumes that looked great! A Very Friendly atmosphere, with good food. The two of us ate dinner for under $20, and the food is done almost immediately after you order it. One of the best Mexican restaurants we have dined at. Definitely worth a try!

Have you ever been to Hollister? Well after visiting here I experienced the same ambiance as this teeny bop clothing story. I was eating in almost complete darkness. The margaritas were watered down and tasteless. Dont bother coming here if you want to pay 9.00 for shells and shredded chicken. The first batch of chips were stale. I am disappointed in the decision to visit this establishment.

Overall, it was a bad experience. The food was average. I am a vegetarian and they had very few vegetarian choices. And just beans and cheese is not vegetarian according to me. Besides, they didnt even have guacamole. The waitress was not the friendliest either. However, the decor was good and food was brought our in good time. I am not sure I would go there again

Love love love LaCharreada! Staff is so friendly and welcoming, best vegetarian selection I have seen, and everything usually comes out ridiculously quick. Great management, always helping the workers with everything, and everyone has such a positive energy. I love the food, perfect lunch to refuel for a busy day at a great price!
