Candlelight Inn 2200 1st Ave. Rock Falls IL 61071 Everyone that lives in this area has seen the commercials for The Candlelight Inn and their “famous” Chicken George. My thoughts about the commercials were. “How corny is that?” A place famous for chicken strips in an area already over saturated with fried chicken. Every restaurant around seems to have the best fried chicken. I’m not even a big fried chicken fan, of the myriad ways to prepare chicken I find frying it to be one of the least desirable. We went to the Rock Falls location on a Saturday night and my first impression was that they have a large parking lot. The interior of this place is beautifully done. I will have to admit it’s one of the best looking restaurants I have been to. Top shelf ambience, acoustics, the room that we were in, the fireplace and all of the candles burning. Come on even the guys gotta notice the place is really nice. Our server was first rate and there was even a young guy there who was maybe a busboy that was super attentive and helpful as well. I started off with a delicious Long Island and a cup of well executed French Onion soup. I then feasted upon the Parmesan George. I knew I had to have George in some fashion so I went Parmesan; I did try the traditional way with Jan’s sauce as well. Is that sauce unique and dynamite or what? I kept dippin my chicken in it trying to figure out the ingredients. I also really like the little complimentary app they bring out for the kids with crackers, string cheese, baby carrots and strawberries. Nice touch! I saw a server walk by with a tray of desserts and saw my favorite crème brulee on there and had to have some. The manager comes out with it and applies the torch to sugar table side. Another nice touch! The flavor was fine it’s that the custard portion was so thin that when the sugar is heated it was runny. According To The Big Food Jerk. I am a Chicken George convert. I had a great experience with the joint itself, the server, the ambience and the food. The Candlelight Inn is the total package. They got my recommendation for sure!

Very disappointed with the dining experience I had today. My soup arrived with a hard breadstick across the top of the bowl and I barely got started on it when my onion rings and deep fried pickles arrived. Most people might think thats not a problem but the onion rings and pickles were barely warm, not piping hot like they should be if they were fresh. To tell you how bad this appetizer was, there was a chicken strip on the plate that was cold and very dry...and I didnt order any of them. I had time ti eat two onion rings when my entree made its arrival. Where they in a hurry to get me out of there? Thats the only thought I had. I took a bite of the seafood alfredo only to find that this was cold as well. The waitres did take it back and when I received it the second time it was warmer and once I got past the bad fishy smell, the dish was just okay. Unfortunately, I wasnt able to eat anymore of the onion rings and deep fried pickles because of the flies flying around landed on the food. The waitress never bothered to ask if I wanted anything else, and when I mentioned that the flies landed on the food she seemed to ignore me. The quality of food was no where near worth the price I had to pay for this meal and I am reluctant to return to the restaurant in the future. I would have talked to the manager, but after waiting five minutes for my waitress to go and tell her I wanted to talk to her, I had to ask another waitress. I was told that she was dealing with another customer, and I did see her talking to a group of people, the same group she was talking to when I stopped at the desk to talk to her. When she was still talking to the same group five minutes later, I figured my chances of talking to her werent good and I left. The bad thing is, Im supposed to meet friends there at the end of the month and Im considering not going because of the poor quality of food. I wont be recommending this restaurant to anyone in the future either.

I am sorry to share this experience because I think this restaurant is well kept and generally good food. However I believe in sharing a genuinely poor experience in case there is an issue that has been accumulating. I took my mother to dinner recently and we had a waiter who came off as annoyed and did not for whatever reason treat us as he did the other tables around us. His name was Corey. He was short with us for every question. He never brought us condiments we asked for when we received our dinner. He didnt come back while we were eating to refill our drinks and worst was that he took my moms plate without asking if she was done and she wasnt. Anyway he was a jerk,

From the outside looked to be an upscale dinning establishment, the interior is very nice to look at, However it was nothing more than a "chicken house. They serve things like onion rings and fried chicken, fried mushrooms . My steak was far from tasty, and my wifes broiled cod was more along the lines of microwaved cod! The servers wore polo shirts and black pants and many of them did not appear to be very professional in appearance! Our service was less than acceptable! Also found the staff to be quit abrupt with manners! We will explore other options on our next evening in the area!

My wife had been telling me about this place for 5 years. We finally made the trip and while the food was okay, the service was not. I ordered a burger, originally I didnt want fries, but literally 10 seconds after She entered my order on her keypad, I told my waitress I wanted fries. She told me since I didnt order is with my meal it would be .50 cents more. REALLY!?!?! I asked if she was joking, but she was really telling the truth. I never heard such a thing. Why not make the customer happy over .50 cents, she refused to do anything.

This is by far the finest dining you will find in Rock Falls and probably Sterling too. There is a dining room, and a bar/ lounge located inside. The wait staff is usually pretty knowledgeable, and the favorite order here is the Chicken George with Jans sauce (a sweet sauce). The lights are dim, lots of wood, and a cozy atmosphere. They are good about accommodating large groups too, as it seems like some rooms can even be closed off for privacy. I dont believe they deliver, but they may have carryout.

Great service. Good food. Management really cares about serving good food. I ordered the combo with chicken and prime rib and before it was even sent out the manager came by. He informed me he was not happy that only the end cut was left and it was not medium rare like I ordered. Told me he was going to discount my meal. The food was still delicious and I probably would not have complained. Refreshing to see an establishment that cares about the food and its customers to be proactive.
