TL;DR the fantastic food, stellar service, and astute attention to detail will be a memorable experience for anyone. 5 Stars is the only rating I see fit. Full Review: I dont think Ive ever given a restaurant a full 5 stars but I think I can safely say that this was truly a culinary experience. My family and I had just gotten back from a long day in Downtown Chicago; needless to say, we were starving and in critical desire for a source of quality food. We stumbled upon this unassuming restaurant thinking it was merely going to be another place for sustenance like the food wed eaten so far and decided to try it. The second we walked in, we could immediately tell something was different. The variety of interior decoration and lighting made me feel almost entirely ease upon walking through the door, and in combination with the opera playing softly over the speaker (the Marriage of Figaro), I knew I was in for a good time. Im not as familiar with the variety of Korean dishes and meals but they were all absolutely delicious. We chose to have our food cooked in the back (as opposed to the option of being able to cook the food for ourselves in front of us). Our waiter was responsive, very quick, and catered to our every need with a comforting smile on his face. At the end of the meal (at which point we were totally stuffed), we received a surprise of ice cream for our dessert on the house. Finally, upon leaving, the front manager gave myself and my younger sisters stuffed animals as souvenirs to send us on our way. I was very impressed and knew I would remember this experience for years to come when I recalled this segment of my time here in Illinois.

We drove from MN to check out the Korean food in Illinois. Chungkiwa did not disappoint and exceeded our expectations. Growing up, Korean BBQ was mostly about eating your fill and having good conversations with alcohol. Here, it was about quality or quantity. Ive never had a Korean BBQ experience that gave off a high end restaurant feel. The owner came and provided thorough explanations when we chose out items. He knew his meat very well and takes pride in what he puts out. We had Bulgogi and So Gum Gui per his recommendation. The SGG was exactly as he described it- when cooked the right way, it will taste and feel like tuna melting in your mouth. The Bulgogi was cooked less than what I was used to and it tasted amazing. Their marinade is not overly sweet like most restaurants. Chungkiwa gave the best Korean BBQ experience for me. When we come back to Windy City, Chungkiwa will be on our list again.

This restaurant is truly incredible. I went there for lunch with 6 other people from my work, not sure what to expect because it was just a random place we pass on the way to work, but I could not have been happier. Everything was delicious. I ordered the Bul Go Ki 1. Lunch special. It was traditional BBQ beef and came with rice, soup, and salad-type greens. It was the best beef Ive ever eaten in my life!! (Ive never had Korean food, and a lot of Asian-style food does not agree with my stomach sometimes, but this was simply awesome!) Completely satisfying. We also were given 6 different sides to share amongst the group. Serving sizes were perfect, filling but not overwhelming. The service was phenomenal, the woman who seemed to be running the show was very gracious and welcoming. I wish she was my aunt! I can not wait to go back!!

We were visiting Chicago from Minnesota, and on our way back we decided to try Chungkiwa. We ordered Kalbi (marinated beef) and Samgyupsal (pork belly). Let me tell you, the price is above average, but it is worth every penny. The quality of Kalbi and Samgyupsal was the highest I have seen. We are K-BBQ lovers and we have been to many Korean BBQ places -LA, San Fran, Seattle, Minneapolis, and New York- and I feel this place has one of the best meat. Also, unlike other places, we have received awesome personalized service. Chungkiwa is a quaint little restaurant with high quality Korean BBQ and the owners are genuinely nice people. This was our first time visiting Chunkiwa but we were very impressed with food and service. I highly recommend this place if you are craving quality Korean BBQ in Chicago.

This place is amazing! The food is superb (tried bbq dishes, soups & rice dishes- most of the menu) and all of the portions were just right (not stuffed & not hungry afterwards)! What basis do I have to go off of? Ive been stationed in Korea and always liked trying traditional fare instead of crappy cafeteria food. Also, the service is VERY commendable. Polite and courteous, without being too intrusive. Prices are on par, if not better than most places. The atmosphere is interesting, but not too tacky. All in all, this place is DEFINITELY worth checking out. Prepare for a great meal and pleasant dining experience!

One of the best places for KBBQ in or around Chicago. Chungkiwa has some of the highest quality meats - the bulgogi and samgyupsal (pork belly) are two of my go to options. The beef is fresh and marinated as you place the order. But the real star is the kalbi short ribs. The kalbi is always very marbled and tastes great with or without the marinade. Also, the pajeon (seafood pancake appetizer) is amazing - one of the best around as its light and crispy. The service here is also top notch - everyone, I closing the owner, is very kind. They also give you free ice cream for dessert, which is always a nice treat!

I would highly recommend people to go try out this restaurant! The food was very tasty. It had a very homemade, delicious taste. Both the food and the people made me feel so welcomed and very at home. The service was the best service Ive ever received from all of the restaurants Ive ever been to! I left the restaurant feeling so touched by their actions and placed me in an overall much better mood. They were so kind, polite, and very caring. The design of the restaurant is also very unique and cool! :)

The highlight of the meal was the dessert that everyone has mentioned: ice cream! The food was pretty average Korean, ~$10, which is a tad pricey, but its the suburbs. The server (she also looks like the owner) doesnt speak great English, but shes very nice & checked on us several times during our meal. The only downside was that I have a very mild allergy to MSG (dry mouth) that doesnt manifest unless I eat quite a bit of it & my mouth was a desert 30 min after eating :(

We went here with my friend for the first time, looking for the best korean restaurant in town. And this was perfect! We loved the bolgoki and the side dishes. Prices are very good. they even gave us cute stuff toys. Not only it made our stomach happy but it made our heart smile. The staffs are really friendly and helpful. The place was awesome. The best korean food and place Ive been to. We will definitely go back and tell my friends.
