Well, I will try to be nice. The food is not authentic like people say. I think people are used to american mexican food. The bill was $50 for two people, if you take out the one margarita that comes out to $43 for two people, which is a little high. The tamales where ok. I think I just love the tamales from the little old lady that sold them at the car dealership I used to work at. The one major complant I have is that, throught the meal was one spice. Seemed like everything taste the same. I ordered the enchaladas with the suisa sauce, and it seemed like it was microwaved. I had no sauce at all it was all sucked into the tortea. Also they charged $2.75 extra for me to get one cheese chicken and beef which is un heard of at a mexican restraunt. Just be ware that this mexican food is the same at all mexican american restraunts....I heard leon neuvo is the best, so ill try to go there and see whats up. My girlfrienfd how ever doesnt want to drive to 18th and ashland...ill try to convince her lol

My fiance and I stopped here for lunch on a hot Saturday afternoon. There was no one to seat us, no one at the cashiers station. We walked into the atrium and it must have been over 85 degrees. We found one clean table in the back, right outside the kitchen door. The waitress took forever with our drinks, and tried rushing us to make an order. We started with 2 margaritas $6.00 they didnt taste like they had any alcohol in them. We tried the chips, not so good, and the salsa was partly frozen and tasted like pace picante sauce. I looked into the kitchen, and there was a HUGE piece of FLY paper hanging above the pop dispencer and that was it. The wall next to our table also had dried nats stuck to it. We waited forever to get the check, paid and left. There was no manager to speak to, and they do not have a website to file a complaint with-----so this is what I can do for you-advise you to not eat here, save your money, time and aggervation and go elsewhere! It was a Sunday when my family and I came here. We asked for the lunch menu, knowing that they did in fact have one, and that we had ordered from it a few Sundays back. The waiter stated he could not find one. We arrived at approx 11:10 AM. I ordered a Miller Lite, but he said they could not serve alcohol before noon on Sundays. Okay, understood. However when another MAN at a table, of Latino descent, ordered in Spanish a Pina Colada (NOT a VIRGIN one) at around 11: 20, HE WAS PROMPTLY SERVED HIS DRINK!!!! I am not sure if I was not served because I was not 100% Mexican(only 50%), a woman, didnt order in Spanish, or maybe for all 3 reasons!? It was 11:40, and our food (for three people) had still not arrived! We paid left them 2 dollars for the chips/salsa , got up, and left. Looking back, I probably should have called the City of Country Club Hills and reported them for serving.

We travel over an hour just to eat at El Cortez. They have hands down the best chips and salsa IN THE WORLD! The food is stellar and the service is perfect. I have eaten at literally dozens of mexican restaurants and nothing even comes close to El Cortez. The rice is so unique and moist and full of flavor, the tacos are so authentic, I cant accurately convey in writing how amazing this place is. Every time we go here, we have to buy 3 extra bags of tortilla chips and 2 Styrofoam cups of salsa to take home. I find myself eating the chips and salsa until my stomach hurts from being stuffed full! I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

I tried this place years ago and it did not taste good at all. No flavor. Decided to give it another try today. My husband and I went and was not greeted upon entering. We had to seat ourselves. The waitress finally comes over. We order our drinks and food. Drinks were brought out and we never heard from the waitress again. After about 40 min, we stopped another waitress to see if she could check on our food. She said shed be back and we never heard from her again. About 10 min after that we left. We wIll never try this place again. HORRIBLE SERVICE and from previous experience, HORRIBLE FOOD!!

Host seats us by pointing out the table were seating at after a couple who arrived after us. Then waitress takes our order after another couple has been seated minutes after we were already there. Now for the food, wife had the tilapia, fried, way over cooked, I ordered the shrimp fajitas, I shouldnt have to work for my food by removing the tails from the shrimp. Rice isnt authentic Mexican rice, its colored white rice. I did like the guacamole, chips and salsa, and the margaritas on the rocks. I do not recommend this so called Mexican restuarant, me myself will not be returning.

The second time I have ordered out from this place . Let me say , the first time it wasnt the greatest but I thought it was an off day for the restaurant so I decided to give them a second chance . Let me say , it was worst than the first time ! The food was cold , tasteless , and horrible ! I will not ever return to this location ever . STAY AWAY , YOU BE BETTER OFF GOING TO TACO BELL !!

I went here for the first time a couple of weeks ago and sat in the outside area. I had the Steak mini burritos and they were really good. The food was fresh and juicy. Many of the Mexican restaurants near this area have dry food so I went onto El Cortez expecting the same, however, I was pleasantly surprised. I say go and hopefully the service and food is as good as the time I went.

Feel like this place nickel & dimes you. Have to pay for chips after first basket. Now no free refills on pop. Feel like the food prices should cover so you can have as much chips and salsa (as long as you order food) as u want. Sour cream not even a spoonful extra. Wont be back unless someone else really wants to go

Love this place. The food, the people... Everything. My husband has been coming here for years since he grew up around here. I have been coming here for for about 16 years. We have our favorite dishes, pretty lucky everything... But the whole family agrees with mini chicken or steak burritos. Most try...

The food wasnt awesome, but it was pretty good stuff. The drinks were good as well. The service was quick and friendly. The only thing that needed improvement was the decor, but for the reasonableness of the price, one shouldnt expect the Four Seasons. Good food, good drinks, good service - no complaints.
