They served standard American fare, and the food was top notch. We ordered an amazing omelet and bagel...but thats what you expect at an inner city breakfast place, right? Good food? What Im really here to boast about is our server, Mark, who was funny, entertaining, thoughtful, and he did his job phenomenally well. We never saw the bottoms of our coffee mugs, we were never waiting long for our food, and we never needed anything. Ive lived a third of a century, which, on a rock that travels many millions of miles per year on a relatively repetitious path, would ensure that Ive seen much of what there is to see served. To put it plainly, any extra photons from here on out are simply a redundancy. Regardless, what I bore witness to today broke the monotony--a self-actualized server. He read our minds! And not uncomfortably so, either...as soon as a booth opened up, he offered to move us from our table; we didnt even ask! He even gave us hot sauce and ketchup without an inquiry. Pretty much, in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, under server, youd find a picture of Mark and the phrase "Similar, just not quite as good." Good job, Mark. I wouldve tipped you directly and thanked you, but I was apparently lost in between that asleep and awake state one often finds himself on a lazy Monday off. Really impressed.

I know this place is known for their breakfast - eggs, toast, bacon, skillets etc. I went there for lunch and even though they serve all day breakfast, I decided to go with something more lunchy - the patty melt. The patty was grilled very nicely to my request for medium rare, it was not as bloody as I expected it though. The meat was tender and really soft and so it complimented the overall texture of the sandwich because it was not chewy at all. The sandwich could be said to be simple, because it was just a patty, some melted cheese, rye bread with a pickle on the side. The surprise star of the show, was the onion fries. They were crispy, straight out of the fryer and each one contained an onion "petal", if thats even the correct term for it. The outside was crispy, crunchy and the inside was really juicy. It was an awesome alternative to traditional fries and it really made my meal. Be adventurous, try it! If youre thinking of traditional onion rings, trust me, its nothing like that. This is way better. The service can be a little spotty, especially when the lunch crowd hit. I had some trouble getting the attention of our server as she moved from table to table at breakneck speed. I tried to get her attention to order and for a box, both times took a while. So go early or be prepared for a bit of a wait.

Came here for breakfast on our last day in town. Despite the long line there happened to be two open spots at the counter so we got to sit fast. Waitress was nice, greeted us promptly. Took our order, husband got a chirizo omelet and I got the eggs benedict.. About 20 or so minutes after our order was taken the people next to us got their food and the waitress came up to the counter and apologized, she lost our food order.. Took our order again and about 20 or so minutes later our food arrived. For the wait, what I ate of my food before discovering a hair in my hashbrowns was just subpar. Hashbrowns were cold, english muffin was rock hard. Husband said his omelet was just meh. Nothing to write home about. I have no idea how they know whats going on. Behind the counter it was pure chaos. The server and the manager did appologize profusely for the hair and losing our order. They took my meal off the ticket and tried to get me to order something else but by this point I had lost my appetite. Not saying we would never try it again, but wont be our first choice.

What a great breakfast spot! As another reviewer said, I highly recommend downloading the NoWait app. Its only available in Chicago but such a great tool in a busy city. We only ended up waiting about 5 minutes once we got to the restaurant. Our server Alexandra was awesome and had a very playful attitude; I could tell that the employees were having a good time. My partner ordered the salmon and eggs; they asked for over medium but got over easy so the yolk broke all over the plate before it could reach the toast. Alexandra happily offered another egg and even didnt charge for my coffee. The salmon was perfectly cooked though. I ordered the kale scrambler with grits and multi grain toast and it was hearty and delicious. I would definitely eat there again!

Yolk, how do I love thee. This place has some seriously good breakfast food. Lovely poached eggs, spicy chorizo, chipotle spiked hollandaise on top of a toasted English muffin - so good! All of the eggs benedict plates come with fruit salad. Legit fruit salad. Not 2 cubes of honeydew and cantaloupe but a bunch of grapes, fresh orange slices, and fresh pineapple. Because we wanted to be heffa status we also ordered red velvet french toast to share - slices of red velvet cake swirled with cream cheese frosting french toasted and served with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. *DEAD* Refuse to eat red velvet cake any other way now. Service is friendly and attentive and no lines on the weekday for this location.

I came, I ate, I forgot... so I thought I didnt need to go back. After months of persistence from my boyfriend, I returned to be pleasantly surprised! In all fairness, the first time I ate at yolk I was incredibly hungover at 1pm on a Sunday - my fault. I will now put it back on my go-to list of brunch places. The potatoes were crispy, the breakfast burrito was tasty, we were served quickly by a very friendly dude... cant complain! We even indulged and got a cinnamon roll to start. Not the best Ive ever had, but certainly did the trick. Bonus that they have a HUGE menu to choose from! Ill certainly be back!

Spent a weekend in Chicago and ate breakfast here each morning. The service is quick and friendly, the food comes out at an unexpected speed considering how busy they were both mornings, and the taste was amazing. I ordered the red velvet french toast stuffed with cream cheese and topped with strawberries, my wife ordered the special which was a pumpkin french toast stuffed with cream cheese and topped with roasted cinnamon apple slices and cranberries. We liked them both so much the first time we ordered it again the next day.

This was my first visit to Yolk. The experience was great and the staff were very friendly. We started with a cinnamon roll which was delicious. Then my meal came and unfortunately was not right thus the 4 stars. When making it right they took the wrong food and then I had to wait for another 20 minutes and the rest of my group was done eating by then. I would of just ate the wrong food instead of waiting but was not even offered that as an option. The food was good but I feel it was handled incorrectly. I will be back.
