It was a pleasure to revisit this place after 8 years away from Chicago. Food was still piping hot and super fresh when ordered. I tried the jerk chicken soup for the first time...flavor was outstanding BUT it had no chicken in it. None. Just brown rice, carrots and beans. It is a very spicy soup too so I couldnt finish it. I also got the turkey chili which was decent but didnt taste the same as the first time I ordered it. Guess different cooks different batches. They no longer take credit cards so bring cash. Also, if you are not a brown rice fan then you may wanna opt out of the rice and beans. Had I known they had replaced white rice with brown rice I wouldnt have ordered the dinner. Gravy was added to the rice and beans (which should also be optional). I still give them 4 stars b/c of quality. Next time, I will know how to order and will request to see my food before they wrap it.

Really coming in and ordering is not an option, you will be waiting forever. Best thing to do is to call your order in (sometimes they dnt answer so u gotta keep calling) even then whatever time they say add 10-15 mins on to that. Otherwise the food is good even though you cant really choose sides or substitute with the dinners, if u want anything like Mac n cheese gotta order it seperate. Also they dont take debit/credit cards which is a bummer.I will continue to come here because I have patience plus its the best jerk spot thats around my house.. all the other spots are

My friend and I first discovered this place at the "Taste of Chicago" about 2 years ago. I was so happy to find out that they are out south! I absolutely love their blackened tilapia, its so tasty and seasoned very well! Last night, I tried the jerk chicken salad and it didnt disappoint either. I love that they give such generous portions of their food, I had enough salad for last night and for lunch today! I would definitely call this place one of the "hidden jewels" on the Southside, hopefully after all these great reviews it wont be so hidden anymore!!

Been going to the Leaf since they opened mainly cause I live around the corner. Unlike most of the reviewers I actually know what good Jamaican food tastes like. I must say dat I was impressed the first 5 or 6 times I ate there because there was consistency to the food! Anyone dat knows about Jamacian restaurants in Chicago knows about the lack there of service and consistency in food prep! As of late they have feel prey to the usual..ie dry azz chicken, over cooked fish and the penchant to over pepper every damn thang...Ooh well on to the next!

The food is FANTASTIC to say the least! Especially the banana pudding! I live up north in uptown, Sheridan and Montrose. I travel by express buses to get to the place because I feel that the food is just that good! They havent been open long but they cook like they have! I do not wright reviews, but when I saw the opportunity to do so for something I like; I could not pass up the opportunity to help drum up support for something I would like to see around for a long time! One day I hope they make it to the "Taste Of Chicago!"

Some times at a restaurant the customer service can out do the food. This place has both. The food is excellent and the young lady that works in the morning has a wonderful spirit. Owner Rick does a great job and they even have a sales man whos name is Will that recommended the place to me. If your in the South Shore community stop in but I would highly recommend you call. As with any chicken place fresh orders take time. Average wait 20 minutes. I enjoy the jerk dark dinner will all cabbage.

Staff is petty, they listen to the phone ring and refuse to answer for customers. When you come in to place an order it takes an eternity to get your food. They always have an excuse for their lack of quality service. I personally think we should boycott the establishment. They dont even take debit cards, if they cant come to the future and use current technology and provide better service they should close.

First time at this restaurant, found out about it online, searching for nearby restaurants. O M G! This food is awesome. I had the jerk catfish, it came with rice and cabbage w/ a free can drink. Everything was seasoned to perfection. The quantity was well worth the value. The quality of the food was fresh and worth the wait. I also had the caramel cake and added on a banana pudding, did I say awesome

Please dont go there if you have any standards of hygiene. The front entrance is paved with cardboard to suck up the water leaking off the AC at the front entrance. Even if you call in for your order you will wait at least 25 minutes. The food is very salty and if youre used to Jamaican food anywhere else you will think its disgusting. Just dont go there its ghetto....

I called here at Banana Leaf to place a large catering order for my place of employent annual anniversary on 2/3/16 , the young lady that was taking the orders was very rude , the music was very loud, and the young lady was very sarcastic , I decided to take my business elsewhere I will not spend my money at a establishment with nasty customer service!!

7-9-17. Nice customer service. Tasty jerk catfish and chicken, but the fish was too greasy and pricey to me. You were out of cabbage. I did not like the taste of the mix greens and it was overcooked to me. Not being able to pay there with credit and debit cards can be very inconvenient for customers, especially in 2017.

Went in and placed an order to see what the craze was about, the customer service seemed as if these girls were forced to work, then after waiting for my food for over 20 minutes she told a customer who just ordered that it would be an hour long wait..... for chicken lmao that place is ass!!

Not familiar with the area so I had no idea the best place in Chicago for jerk chicken was here, this place is wonderful. I am very picky when it comes to food but the macaroni is almost as good as my grannys & the catfish is like none other. I recommend this place to everyone, seriously!

Their food is not all that not spicy at all, I like hot & spicy jerk. But theirs is not even spicy. And I seen on Facebook where someone purchased a dinner and put the picture up with a dead roach in the cabbage, thats why I dont eat everybodys cooking everybody is not clean smh

Jerk chicken salad a must try with ranch dressing (the small is enough for 1 maybe 2 people and there is plenty of chicken piled on high) and I love the jerk chicken wings with bread. Oh I almost forgot go ahead and cheat...grab a slice of caramel cake while youre there too.
