This store has high quality produce, a large deli counter, and well-selected specialty items. Within the bounds of its 4 walls it has as much as possible of other necessary food items - bread, interesting dairy products, baked goods, etc. The prices are reasonable. The personnel are within sight, gracious, and usually knowledgable. On weekends, the French baking sisters who do good work on the west side bring their wonderful tarts, breads, etc. Prices also reasonable; donation appreciated. The only negative I can think of is that parking space can be very tight, especially on the weekends. The other option in Hyde Park leaves much to be desired, and is way overpriced, in my opinion. Too bad there isnt more room at HPP so we could do it all there.

We go here at least three times per week. The names says it all; its a grocery store with produce at its core. The quality and the price of the produce -- both organic and standard alike -- is beyond compare. Im certain you cant find a better deal within city limits. Our grocery bill is astoundingly low, and we eat healthier than ever with HPP just blocks away. Looking for meat, grains, dairy, or staples? Youll find better selection and prices elsewhere. You might luck out with a great special or two, but otherwise the prices are a bit steep. That said, pitas and fresh bakery (including baked goods from Medici) are fairly priced.

My husband and I think this is the best thing in existence!!! HPP has delicious and cheap produce... we are always shocked at how low our bill is when we walk out of the store! The packaged goods are also about comparable to Treasure Island (the biggest grocery store in Hyde Park), so it makes sense to buy everything at HPP. The only drawback is that the store is a little small, so there isnt a ton of variety with the packaged goods... but they almost always have what I want, so its hard to complain! Most highly recommended commercial establishment in Hyde Park... GOOOOOO HPP!

Cool friendly employees at the check out thats about it, what I hate the most about this store besides the price gouging on off brand items and on the same items that CVS has right next door is that theyve only had ONE old scale... in the entire produce section for well over a year, which Ive mentioned multiple times so It lead me to write a review. They make way too much money to inconvenience customers within the community. Maybe they will get scales when Whole Foods comes to the neighborhood.

Some of the cheapest (but still decently fresh) produce near the University of Chicago campus. This is my go-to grocery store, and I strongly prefer it to Treasure Island. They have a great deli and bakery section too (with loaves from the Medici freshly stocked). The selection for processed and packaged foods isnt that large though. Additionally, Ive had a handful of bad experiences with overly riped Avocados and sandy broccoli (make sure to watch it thoroughly beforehand).

Horrid. What a cluster F***. Impossible to find what you need and they dont carry most regular products that youd need. Wanted to try them out but left with more then half my list not done. Waste of time. Have to update my review. Cut open a red potato to find it ROTTEN in the middle. Totally black and disgusting. Open my shredded cheese today and it had MOLD in it. It said best by Jan 2014. I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS DISGUSTING PLACE AGAIN. I should get my money back!!!

HPP is okay, but very much in a "because the alternatives suck" kind of way. Closing at 6 or 8 is frustrating for a grocery store in a college neighborhood. The store has essentially no meat, so if youre an omnivore youll still have to go to another place for that. Finally, the price relationship with Treasure Islands is more nuanced than youd think; whats cheaper where changes all the time. So, HPP is sufficient, but at 4.5 stars its overrated, Id say.

Great produce selection, Hyde Park Produce is the place to go when I want something quick and cheap. There are so many options, I love that I got to buy some yummy Asian pears for cheap (they are much more expensive in Asia for some unknown reason). Not too good for shelf items, but who shops at Hyde Park Produce for canned things? Overall friendly staff and nice environment to shop!

Hyde Park Produce is the place to go for buying quality groceries in Hyde Park. Their selection of foods is great, especially for fruits and vegetables. They sell Boars Head meats, a lot of quality imported snacks and herbs, and have a great selection of anything you might need to cook a tasty meal. Its also much cheaper for fruits and veggies than Treasure Island!

This place has been amazing selection of fruits and vegetables, in a location that you might not expect. Throughout the year, particularly during the summer months, and theres a wide variety of reasonably priced fruits, fresh vegetables, and all produce available here. I park on the street, when I dont ride my bike over. Reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

An adorable market with a great produce selection and well-priced produce. They also have a lot of specialty items like organic things and foreign items. Some things are a bit pricey, but thats to be expected when the items sold include organic peanutbutters of multiple flavors including chocolate, cookies, and even chili.

I love Hyde Park produce! I started shopping here two years ago when I first moved into the Hyde Park neighborhood . The price for the produce is fair and its always fresh. The cashiers are friendly and the lines move quickly. I stopped by today to pick up some avocados. I would highly recommend this store.

Theres a reason this place is so popular. Great produce options and excellent deals on deli things - meats cheeses & also prepared foods like potato salad, chicken salad (!!) and olives, cornichons, marinated artichokes, meatballs, etc. Bagel/ coffee deal is also good as are their sandwiches.

Small market with lots of affordable fruits and vegetables. One caveat is that you should purchase and consume the produce rather promptly. The deli has a wide section of cold cuts and cheeses. They even have a hot food section. There customer service is really good.

As far as meats and produce goes, the pricing is great. When you get into some of the other items (soups, cheeses, etc.), it gets a bit overpriced. But I love the produce section and atmosphere so much I will travel out of my way to go here at least once a month

Best market in Hyde Park. An entire wall is dedicated to organic fruits and veggies, there are tons of different options for people with dietary restrictions and there are foods from all over the world here! Super friendly staff and happy vibes.

Awesome variety of produce, and usually the cheapest in the neighborhood. Great selection of bread as well. If I could, Id knock of half a star, given that the processed goods are pretty expensive, but everything else makes up for it.

Best fresh produce in Hyde Park, or maybe even in South Side, period. Do not buy anything else, it is prohibitively expensive. But produce is not expensive, they offer better prices than anything in the neighborhood.

Great, cozy neighborhood grocery store. Highly recommended for its impressive variety of fresh produce and an assortment of domestic and imported specialty and health food items. Staple foods can be a bit pricey.
