I stayed in Chicago for a week visiting friends, and Gold Star bar quickly became our "local" bar. It has a cool but unpretentious atmosphere and the regulars that we met there were some of the best "bar buddies" i have ever met. I played several games of pool per night, and never once had any kind of negative experience with anyone there -- in fact, became friends with some of the regular pool sharks there. Overall, five stars, cheap & good beer and even better people! Check it out!

This is about as no frills as a dive bar can get. Moderately hipstery, but cool. Theres a pool table and good music. Patio furniture indoors. Nice bartenders. Cheap booze available. And I heard it used to be a prohibition-era speakeasy and/or a whorehouse. Not sure, but I am digging the current incarnation of Gold Star just fine.

Loved this place. Total dive bar atmosphere, which is a great place to hang and catch up with your friends. Huge bar so you can sit, hang, chat with the awesome bartenders. Great jukebox with excellent song selections. If I lived in Chicago, Id be at this bar often.

Is this the last unironic neighborhood dive bar in Wicker/Ukie? Maybe, maybe not. But what I can say is they have craft beer, strong drinks, no cocktail menu, a solid jukebox, and are cash only.

Like hole in the wall bars but not quite brave enough for Rite Liquors? Well, the Gold Star is your next best bet on Division. Something is always $2.

Best bar in Chicago, good atmosphere, great jukebox (mostly punk and metal), cheap drinks and no-nonsense bartender. Plus, I met my wife there.

Pleasantly dark, relaxed atmosphere with quick service and extremely reasonable prices. A proper hole in the wall bar atmosphere.

One of the oldest bars in Chicago and you can tell. Cheap beer, smells like popcorn and has a pool table. Check, check, and check.
