BBQ... I love it, so I visited with my coworker for a late lunch. We arrived around 1:30pm, ordered and ate. BBQ is good, then before we had finished our lunch, a guy sticks his head out from behind the counter and holds up two fingers. My coworker has her back to him so she cant see this...I am puzzled, so I look behind me, nothing. Then with a pained face he shakes his two finger at me again, and he says we close at 2:00! I was shocked. It was 1:57 by my watch, and even if it were 2:00, I would not have expected to be run out of a restaurant. My coworker got a togo box and we were off, never to return. The BBQ is good, not great. And I do not plan to go where I am not wanted, worse yet, I think this may be the owner. Terrible experience.

The pulled pork is definitely some of the better that Ive had. The baked beans and cole slaw are of a good quality and dont merit any complaints. The sweet tea is good. But if you really want something special, try the pork ribs. They arent baby back ribs, but theyre just as tender as any baby back ribs Ive had. Their meat selection is also very good -- very little fat or gristle. Ive been to quite a few of the BBQ places in Atlanta (Rib and Blues, Spiced Right, Fat Mats, Swallow in the Hollow, Famous Daves, and 4 or 5 others whose names I dont want to look back up), so I think Im qualified to comment. Be sure to bring cash, as they dont accept credit cards.

On a whim, my friends and I decided to drop in, in memoriam of the fine Gunters BBQ that used to be on the same location. While there was a definite effort at reattaining that old spark, changes to the recipes -- in particular the BBQ sauce, which used to be thin and spicy and not is thicker but strangely less hearty -- mean its definitely not still the place you knew. That said, the portions were generous and the service top notch, which goes a long way if the food is remotely good and this was actually good. The potato boats are not quite as good as you recall, but youll still make appreciative mmmmm-ing noises anyway.

My pops eats here every Thursday and sometimes I will join him and his cronies. He being from a small town in Kentucky knows what good BBQ should be. I have to concur that Hometown BBQ has a phenomenal menu and execution of it. Try the pulled pork or a chili slaw dog with a side of green beans or mac and cheese! Be certain to check out their signature home made BBQ sauce. 5 stars and 2 thumbs up!

I went in and ordered a half rack of ribs to eat in and a pound of pulled pork to go.I was concerned the half rack wouldnt fill me but I was so wrong! They were also smoked to perfection, fully pink down to the bone but fully smoked/cooked. Flawless! I ate the pulled pork two days later and it was to die for as well. My favorite was the Carolina sauce, tasted the house and it was good as well.

Good BBQ. The portions are generous. Ribs are meaty and lean, pulled pork plates can make two sandwiches. Plates come with two side which are very tasty. Two types of house labeled, locally made BBQ sauce, one mustard based the other sweet and peppery, both very good. Regular drinks available from water, soda or southern brewed tea. Family owned small business.

Bring cash or check. Surprised and annoyed that they didnt accept any credit cards but had an old type ATM on site that charges $2 per transaction. Using an old type slide reader was worrisome because of all the hacked readers around. Food and service was great. Had pulled pork and hubby had 1/4 chicken. Went for lunch and $20 is a bit steep.

The food was good a lil high in price, but the whole time we were eating all you could her was a girl laughing and giggling very loud. When we got done eating and left we didnt even get a thank you have a good. They were all too busy talking and laughing. Not good customer service.

The menu is simple and they know what they are doing. The setting has a country feel to it. Its a small family business dedicated to great service and superb bbq. We buy pounds and pounds of their food for every party we throw. Highly recommended.

Brisket was dry, almost like it had been cooked days before and then reheated, ribs where bland. The only saving grace on 2 stars was because of the mediocre bbq sauce.
