My wife and I were in Buckhead from South Florida so after eating here I feel I need to complete a review. We arrived a little after the normal dinner rush and were quickly able to find a place at the bar to wait for our table. Nice drink specials and the Bar staff was super helpful and entertaining. Our appetizer (Hush puppies and remoulade) arrived promptly and was tasty but not greasy. We were seated outside which worked perfect for the weather. The live music was excellent; talented but not distracting. And our entries arrived with a reasonable wait. The Decor was just rustic enough to present a Florida vibe but not too silly. We ordered Shrimp and Grits and the Grilled Mahi Mahi Sandwich. One minor issue they were out of the smashed potatoes and the kitchen substituted another side without asking. Our waitress resolved this by giving us a free dessert (pineapple upside down cake). All the food was super delicious and the seafood was fresh cooked perfectly and spiced appropriately. This is definitely on our revisit list and we highly recommend it to any locals looking for a good southern seafood place.

I really enjoyed eating here at the Big Ketch. It has (unsurprisingly) a nautical theme to it with great rustic shipyard decor and friendly staff who were extremely helpful. I really regret not getting the hot lobster sandwich when we came here. My fiance got the lobster mac and cheese (which was kind of gross, think lobster spread on a grilled cheese, just not the best) and I got the shrimp and grits which were pretty excellent! The best part: free cajun boiled peanuts before your meal! I dont really consider boiled peanuts seafood-y but I do love some good boiled peanuts. The only problem with these guys were that the spices were inconsistent. Some would be really mild and some would be really spicy. It would be nice if they had a mild batch and a spicy batch that customers could choose from because Im not a big fan of super spicy nuts. Anyway, it was a lovely lunch, it wasnt packed so we were seated immediately, but they have a great bar and a fantastic outside patio. Will definitely be back!

Great food for the value. Called the same day to make a reservation but when we arrived, they had no record of our reservation. It was suggested that I called their other restaurant in Roswell, but I knew that I had called the 404 area code. No apology - I felt sort of put out by getting a first reaction of "you must have called the wrong place" rather than an "Im so sorry, but we can seat you...not sure what happened with your reservation." Hostess at the front could have better interpersonal skills - she strongly wanted us to sit outside and when we said we preferred inside, she seemed a little annoyed. Showed us to a tiny table for 2 by the window (it was cold outside), but could tell from the look on my face that this is not what I expected when making the reservation. She showed us to a better table which was fine. However, we had great service from our waiter and the food was delicious!

Ive heard wonderful things about this place and its right down the street, so we gave it a try. Being from South Florida Im pretty critical of seafood, and this place was great!!! We ordered hush puppies and the crispy shrimp to begin and they were delicious. My husband got the scallops and for the $22 he got a very big portion. He said they were cooked perfectly. I got the lobster roll and LOVED it! Huge portions of lobster in a delicious soft buttered roll. I got a Caeser as a side, but the dressing was awful so I didnt really eat it..but that was my only complaint. We finished off dinner with a slice of the key lime pie and both agreed it was the best weve ever had. My only suggestion would be to make a reservation! We went early, at 6:15 with a reservation, and overheard the hostess telling a party of 2 there was already a 2 hour wait, even though the restaurant was seemingly half empty.

“So great that they dont take reservation” Their current name is "Big Ketch Saltwater Grill". We went there on a Sunday evening and its fully packed. We needed to wait at the door for about 15 minutes. They dont take reservation as the tables are occupied at all time. On weekend night, you could wait up to 45 minutes. But thats what you go for, the fresh and delicately cooked sea food. As always, we will try Oysters on the Half Shell wherever we see on a menu. Theirs is very fresh and well prepared. Creative Tuna Poke made us miss Hawaii -- marinated ahi tuna served chilled with wonton chips. They also serve local fish dish as their special. Every night they have live bands playing. The most amazing is that their price is are very reasonable. All fresh fish entrees are between $13-$20. We absolutely plan to go back, on a less crowd night, or go for a lunch.

I have been to Big Ketch 2 times recently and have not been impressed either time. I think I want to like it because it has an awesome patio and I love dining outside but the food leaves a lot to be desired. I went about a month ago and had the crab and shrimp cake and it was horrible and very bland. I struggled to finish. Both times Ive had the calamari and it wasnt seasoned well in my opinion. Even the sauce that is on top was bland to me. I did like the lobster bisque and the collard greens but those are the only things I can review positively. This last time I went I had the blackened grouper for lunch. The portion size was small and the fish wasnt seasoned as well as I would expect for a blackened dish. Despite my love for this huge patio I dont think I will be returning to this place.

There are times when you receive so much good feedback about an establishment and when you finally patronize the establishment, your experience is not up to par. This is what happened with my visit here, but for the record I am going to visit again and see where it takes me. I came here with my niece for happy hour food specials. We ordered the hushpuppies which were cooked to long and a few seconds before burned. We also ordered the calamari and the individual strips were tasty but the bigger pieces were inedible. The bar attendant offered to replace them but my taste buds were so turned off. They have a large outdoor patio and the restaurant has appeasing ambiance. I cant suggest patronizing at the moment but I will follow-up on my next visit.

The Big Ketch is one of my favorite seafood spots. It has a very vibrant and casual atmosphere. They have a decent selection of ales and ciders available and the seafood is always fresh and well prepared. The crab and shrimp cakes are my favorite appetizer while the sea scallops are my favorite entree. The restaurant is large enough so that you can really select a seat that fits your desired noise level, whether that is right in the thick of things or in a little bit more of a quiet area. There is also ample parking available. The only downside is that the restaurant is located right in the heart of the Buckhead Bars area, so it can get a little hectic/rowdy outside when you are trying to depart on Friday and Saturday nights.
