I really didnt want to have to write this on Google reviews because I thought the restaurant would address this on their Facebook page. But they instead deleted my comment without following up with me about what happened. I knew something wasn’t right when I walked into Smokejack this morning a little after 11:30. After speaking to the host, who didn’t acknowledge me after the first time I talked to him, I was seated in a quiet side of the dining area. I was the first customer of the day. The waitress came to take my drink order and also offered to take my full order. Gave it. I then asked her what her name was because she didn’t say it right away. Then I gave mine as she walked away with my order. While sitting at the table taking notes, I could clearly hear the waitresses chatting in the back corner. One of them said, “a customer out there just gave me his name. I hate when they f***ing do that. It’s like, I’m never going to see you again.” I thought, surely I misheard that or they’re talking about someone else. After a quick look around, I realized I truly was the only person there and that the waitress was talking about me. When they started talking about past spring break experiences and wanting to sit on certain customers faces, I was sure they were being candid and that they didn’t know I could hear them. The whole experience really soured my appetite. I ended up not eating any of my order. When I got the check, I paid for my food because I respect the hard work the cooks in the back do. I didn’t leave a tip because why would I give money to someone who made me feel like crap? What really bothers me is that I like this restaurant and I always tell my friends to go here. I’m from Atlanta and every time an out-of-towner asks me, “Where’s the best BBQ in ATL?” I always give the same answer, Smokejack! And fyi to the waitress, I ask your name because I want to make sure you are the one getting tipped if you give me great service. And the reason I give mine is because it’s polite.

Overrated!!! I searched online to find a "smoked barbecue" restaurant in the Roswell Alpharetta area. I was specific in my search because we wanted good smoked tasting meat, I read the reviews on the ones selected , made calls to make sure the meat was smoked not grilled, oven cooked or boiled. We decided on Smokejack BBQ because the online reviews were good. I was so excited and so was my friend. We were looking forward to a "GREAT Smoke rib experience. " The restaurant was a nice quaint Main street spot and the smoke smell met us at the door. Oh the excitement mounted with the smell. We started with the smoked wing appetizer which I thought would come without sauce, unfortunately, sauce on them. The wings were okay. For our meal, we ordered the Texas Holy Trinity; ribs, brisket, smoked sausage links and 4 sides. For sides we chose the collards, mashed sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, and fries. The collards, smoked sausage and fries were good. The "Smoked" rib experience a disappointment! We could not taste or detect a smoked flavor on the ribs we did on the brisket. We requested ribs without sauce, that is all we tasted. The meat did not taste smoked ... what a "BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!" The brisket was not tender and was fatty. We were really "DISAPPOINTED". Although hungry, I barely ate my food, had left overs which were boxed up, but left on the table because I knew I was not going to eat it later. We also found it odd that there was no bread served with the meal; no corn bread, hush puppies or rolls. Very odd! Needless to say, although the restaurant is nice and the services was good, the food was a let down. Well seasoned meat does not require sauce. In addition, the mashed sweet potatoes needed flavor- vanilla flavor, nutmeg and cinnamon, mac and cheese not the best either. The dining experience was a BIG disappointment!. So, Im not a big fan of BBQ places that try to do all types of BBQ, as Smokejacks does (Carolina, Texas, Kansas City, and Memphis). When I first went in and saw that the guy that started it did a BBQ tour of the nation, I was like ..... uh oh. I would prefer you just pick one style and BBQ and do it right than multiple and do them mediocre. With that said, I travel to ATL at least once a month and dedicate one of my five nights of dining to this place. I consider that really good considering the number of restaurants in the Alpharetta area (by the way, Im only vouching for the Alpharetta location.... its the only one Ive been to. Everything Ive had has been really really good, never had a bad meal. I rated the decor and service only as good, but theres nothing wrong with either, just nothing that wowed me. Regardless, it was as good as any other place you will go. Make sure you visit this place, its worth the trip. By the way, Id never eaten a mayonnaise based BBQ sauce (for the Alabama chicken - smoked, flash fried, and then covered with this type of sauce). While I dont count this as "real BBQ", dont be scared of ordering it. It knocked my socks off.

Order only took about 5-7 mins during lunchtime on Saturday. Was a to-go for 2 sandwiches. I got the que-bano with Mac n cheese n baked beans sandwich was good for a barbeque place. Mac was OK baked beans were good, but different. My coworker got the beef brisket sandwich she loved it the mac ...again was OK the potato salad was good.... But the banana pudding was delicious nice and fresh and good size. Only drawback the blonde young lady in front seemed a little lost a first, not sure if it was because we were the only blacks in there and she needs a better uniform. All she had on was a big shirt not professional even for barbeque place. The guy at the bar while we waited for our order made up for it though he was really sweet and made a little convo. But do not get the Carolina sauce...thats my favorite type of sauce ...and that was the worse Ive had thank goodness I tasted before I put on my sandwich. Would I try them again, yes but it wont be at the top of my list.

The staff were friendly and helpful, I would give them 5 stars. The building was nice and the decor appropriate. Service was quick and complete. The food, ah the food. I was rather pleased with the fish taco appetizer with its crisp shell and tasty fish. I was not impressed with the Rubenstein. The bread was completely saturated in oil. The beef, although cooked very well, lacked any smokiness it was roast beef and nothing more. I also seemed to have gotten the fattest portion as every bite contained a junk of melting fat. I dont necessarily mind some fat but on top of the already dripping toasted bread it was a bit much. My husband had the barbequed pork sandwich and again no smoke could be detected in that either. Overall I would say if you are not going to use wood to smoke your meat, you are not really a smokehouse, youre really just a grill.
