As a former Virginian and a frequent visitor of the Carolinas, I was pretty excited to hear that a new BBQ joint was coming to downtown Sanford. Great BBQ in Florida is hard to find, and unfortunately I dont feel like I found it at Fuel. Across multiple visits and various menu choices, I was charmed by the building decor and the staff but was disappointed in the taste and quality of the food. On my first visit I had a pulled chicken sandwich with baked beans and mac and cheese. The pulled chicken was very dry, but it was better once I smothered it in one of their signature sauces. I expected the baked beans to be sweet and savory, but there was an odd addition (what tasted like rotel) that I just didnt enjoy the flavor of. The mac and cheese on my first trip was greasy and ended up separating, not at all creamy like youd expect, but it was much improved on my second visit. My second time through had me tasting the burnt ends, green beans and cornbread, and I tried their highly touted brisket, as well. Much like my previous visit, I found both meat selections to be pretty dry. Both had really thick rubs that ended up being caked on the outside of the meat, so it felt like I was eating a moist paste on top of dry meat. I was looking forward to the green beans, but they ended up being greasy and slightly sweet. The cornbread was good, slightly sweet with a cake-like consistency, almost as if it had been sifted. Both trips to Fuel left me feeling underwhelmed and slightly disappointed, especially after hearing so many good things from the community. I hope that they take these reviews as constructive criticisms and work to improve their output, as they have a beautiful venue, a friendly staff and the potential to be a staple in downtown Sanford.

Wow, this place was the perfect surprise. EXACTLY what we needed. bBQ is what we go for when were in a new town & it is perfectly down the road from West End. Benjie(?) helped us with our food, and he couldnt be better. He was patient and super nice to let us try the meats prior and helped us get a bigger size meal prepared. They go by weight, and it iS a lil pricier compared to other bbq places, but ahh, its way worth it! Their burnt ends are different, as in its only the brisket side and cut into blocks of heaven, sweet, savory & decadent. We love all tings green, but found their green beans to be a bit too sweet & the collards to be a touch too tart so we solved the issue by getting an extra double order of each put into the same box and made GREENS green Beans, & OMG= ridiculously deliciousness ensued, especially after a night of juices mingling together in the same box. The meat was sO tender and cut thick, homemade waffle chips w/ their bbq sauce was great and the mac&cheese was yum too. We really havent ever been so excited for leftovers! The outside dining area is spacious and quite charming at night, while the inside has a farmhouse barn door to the connnected bar, its sucha neat spot. W/o a doubt, will be back every.time. were in Sanford! Thanks!!!

I had the brisket and baked beans. The brisket wasnt bad but it didnt have much flavor it needed to have more Smoky taste. The baked beans even though theyre actually bake for a few hours dont have enough BBQ flavor. So I would say the brisket and the beans are just average. Im French so Im big into the sauces and they had three types of barbecue sauce I was not impressed with any of them two really nasty one was acceptable. The brisket was really pricey and so was the beans for the amount that you got. And from the signs outside I didnt even know it was a barbecue restaurant. The place is really huge on the inside they have a nice bar and live entertainment. I would come back and try the ribs and pulled pork if there BBQ sauce was any good so the only way Ill try it is bring my own sauce.

Was very hopeful for Fuel and some scrumptious barbeque in Sanford, disappointed my first experience was not so good. Place looked terrific, though, amazing restoration of a derelict property. Even so, I have never left a barbeque restaurant still hungry! Servings are small and all a la carte. Burnt ends serving was about 4 small squares of meat and 4 or so chunks of fat. A little fat is expected with barbeque but a serving of pure fat is gross, even covered with Fuels yummy, candied sauce. I bit into the dry-ish cornbread, the middle held what looked like a piece of baking paper wadded up. It was :-( The staff is so upbeat and excited I left with out saying anything.

We were wandering around last night looking for dinner and found Fuel. Were up to try new bbq places and we definitely got lucky. Every single thing we had was excellent. The people putting that food out have pride in what theyre doing and that comes through in the dishes. I told my gf that it it reminded me of the bbq joints Id hit in smaller cities in the south; no silly frills, fresh cooked (they dropped the okra when we ordered it), good sauce, fair prices, and dang good. Give it a shot. We had the brisket, burnt ends, okra, beans, and that cornbread. Good stuff.

Its okay. Nothing I got here wowed me, especially for that price point. The only thing I liked were the sweet potato fries, and maybe the Mac n cheese, but its deep fried so not very difficult. The meat was a little dry, and the green beans were sweet. The corn bread was okay, wasnt a moist crumbly taste I wanted but it was fine. I just really think that the prices are not justified. Side note, the root beer lacked real good root beer flavor. Maybe the mix was off? If your in Sanford, sure.. BBQ. But at this price point I think 4 rivers is better m

My FAVORITE local BBQ place! Burnt ends and pulled pork are my go-to choices, my boyfriend also likes their ribs. Brisket and fries are just okay but the rest of the meat and sides are to die for delicious! The baked beans have unique, tasty flavor and the mac n cheese is my favorite ever! Overall, helpful staff, quality ingredients and tasty food. PS try the cornbread with honey for an after-meal sweet treat :)

Good brisket, pulled pork was a little dry but the pulled brisket was the best it was sauced perfect. My family is giving a mixed review of the baked beans and coleslaw, alright but we have all had better. Their homemade chips are very good and the wife really liked the pulled chicken.

The BBQ itself, though is not totally "traditional", is very very good. The Ribs are my personal favorite, always VERY tender and a great taste overall. Its nice to have a BBQ joint here in Downtown Sanford. The only gripe is the pricing is a little high considering the area.

Delicious Brisket, great portion size for the price. House sauce I love. Love the fried okra and cole slaw. The sweet BBQ sauce too sweet. And the cornbread too dry for my taste. But all else is really good.

Servers were slow and disorganized, food is overpriced, 2.50 for a two ounce side. Wasnt even good. 4R is better priced, better food, better staff. Forgot to mention the one soda machine was watered down.
