We used to LOVE this place when they first opened. They had great salsa and chips, attentive and pleasant waitstaff and decent prices for good food. Over the years, weve continued to visit Zapatas about every 3 months - we save up for these dinners because my husband is out of work and I am finishing school. My husband had a craving last night for Zapatas fried ice cream - which has always been a highlight of our meals there. We didnt want to sit, so we ordered take out - an appetizer, two dinners and, of course, the fried ice cream. We waited 45 minutes for the take out to be ready - it was a busy Friday night, but thats a bit ridiculous. They did not give us our fried ice cream, which we thankfully noticed before we left the parking lot. I ran back in to grab it, but the hostess was unable to help and the waitress who took the order - who we tipped, because we knew she would get taxed the bill, even though she did nothing to assist - ignored the situation completely. I asked the hostess twice to just refund me for the dessert, since the rest of our food was getting cold and by that time, it had been an hour since we ordered and we wanted to go home - hence the TO GO order. At home, we realized the fillings in the dinners were wrong, the appetizer was crushed, and the ice cream had not been fried. Our trips to Zapatas have been getting progressively worse over the last few years and after last night, we will not be going back nor will we be recommending them to anyone - something we used to do often. What a shame.

Starting from my arrival. The building and decor is very nice. The chips and salsa were tasty. I asked the server if the fountain drinks are cold without ice, she responded that they are cold. When my wife and daughter tasted their drinks they were not even cool, they were hot. I must disagree with "NYer Stuck in PSL," I ordered the Burrito Grande. The burrito was the size you get in something like Stouffers frozen dinners. Far from enough for two. I have eaten at La Bambas in Delray Beach and their burrito is the size you could share. Now, back to my burrito. The meat was dry and there was nothing else inside. I had a scoop of Sour Cream on the top with refried beans on one side and rice on the other. My daughter had chicken tenders and fries. The fries tasted like the oil was old. My daughter loves chicken nuggets and fries, but she only ate four or five fries and maybe (And I mean maybe) one chicken tender. My wife ordered the Cobb Salad. She said it was good, but nothing to say you have to come back. The server was attentive, though we visited on a Wednesday at 4:00PM so the business was dead. This was our first and only visit, sorry but I would not recommend it to friends or family. If you are tired of your normal places, and just need to visit so you can cross it off the list, I hope you enjoy the food more than we did.

I know its snow bird season, but there is no excuse for substituting anything in a menu. O ordered the shrimp scallop and dolphin fajitas. The fish that came in the dish was tilapia. Thin, irregularly shaped, heavily seasoned. I inquired about the misunderstanding with the waitress who said "I prefer tilapia, myself". She glanced at the fajitas and then said she couldnt tell the difference herself. So she want to the kitchen and management sent her back with a plate of raw tilapia and the smallest one inch by half inch by 4 inch piece of mahi iv ever seen. She was instructed to show me the difference. The manager never came to check on the situation. Even tho I live only a few blocks from here I wont be back, at least until season is over. The waitress was very good and the rest of the food was ok. I only wanted what I was told I would get.

First, to the reviewer who wrote about Canadians serving Mexican food....if youre referring to Bob & Rob, they sold Zapatas a few years back. I was told it was to the same family who owns Pueblo Viejo, but Ive not confirmed that with public records. Anyway, When Bob & Rob owned it the place was excellent. Food and service was always good. When it sold, it was inconsistent. We eat there, but not too often because we can never be certain if its going to "wow" us or send us home wishing wed spent our money at the grocery store and made our own fiesta. I will say this: MOST of the time its decent. And if you can get our favorite waiter its great, but otherwise, its just your average Mexican restaurant. What Id give to have Acapulco Lindo or the original Enriquos back.

UPDATE: This is a very shady place. Left cash tip, but the restaurant took it upon themselves to add a tip to my credit card. Only a few bucks, but very unprofessional. Hope it was worth it. Food was fine -- fish tacos were well seasoned and the carne asada burrito tasted like a carne asada burrito. What wasnt fine was the hair we found in our chips, the salsa -- which tasted like a mix of onion and cilantro in tomato paste -- and our waitress disappearing after dropping off our meal. You had one chance in making a good impression. You failed. What I will never forget is the waitress reaction to the hair we found in the chips: "We dont have hair like that." Hilarious.

I got two Carne Asada Grande Burritos. First thing is they messed up my order. They have a grande burrito with carne asada and all the fixings, and a carne asada one with ONLY rice with beans. They gave me the second option, which was dissapointing since I was looking forward to all the fixings. The carne asada itself is too burnt tasting. I mean, dont get me wrong the charred flavor is yummy but this is like only charcoal flavored. But anyways. All together super good prices and lots of food in one portion. You get a side of chips and salsa which is nice. Id give em a five if they didnt mess up the order. Better than pueblo viejo for sure.

I have been coming here for the last ten years and have never had a bad experience. Everything Ive had on the menu has been good and having been raised in Texas Im picky about Mexican food.. The wait staff are all efficient and polite. This is a family owned and operated business and the owner circulates constantly making sure everything is just right. They have a great happy hour with a free hot buffet. My favorite bartender, Jason, knows everyones name and drinks and makes a great margarita. When your drink runs low and you look up for him he already has it in hand.

Nasty, first off service was horrible. Had to wait several minutes just to order drinks. Salsa was the highlight, not even the chips were good as the were just crumbles. Both my kids ordered tacos and the grease was dripping onto the plate. I ordered one of their specialities and came with a fried poplano pepper whiched I love, however I could not taste it over the batter which was horrible. The beer wasnt even that cold!!! Save your money for another place.
