Mi Casita Bakery made me break all the rules I had about eating pork and beef. I haven’t eaten anything besides chicken or fish in the last two years, for personal health reasons, but the moment I saw this signature Colombian dish in front of me, I couldn’t resist. Indulging myself in steak, pork rind, rice, beans, fried egg, plantains, avocado and tostones (smashed fried plantains) was one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time. I made sure I ate this meal at a glacial paste, slowly taking in the last time I’d probably eat beef or pork again. Besides the bandeja paisa, the arepa de chocolo was my other favorite item on the menu. Arepa de chocolo is a sweet corncake with cheese; it kind of tastes like a buttery fried pancake filled with sweet corn and crème cheese on top. Sounds odd, but believe me, one bite of this and you’ll be asking para mas.

This place went from really good when I first came to Pembroke to not even worth your money. I believe they changed the people who used to put the soul and deliciousness to the food. As well as hired people who are just plain lazy and unprofessional. I went back today to see if maybe the reviews were a bit off, nope they are correct. Try the Colombian food over at the West side of Pembroke Pines, its really good over there!

Food its ok, the pasteries are overpriced and the service is bad. They treat you like if youre asking for free food. Its ok to want to move the line fast, but with an attitude? If your not Colombian, why should I have to know what your food is called or what it has inside. Dont treat me like Im bothering you asking what it is. Put a sign on the damm thing if it bothers you so much. Not a way to treat customers.

My husband bought me calentado for brunch today and the food had no seasoning. The meat was so chewy! I have had better Colombian food than this in many other places around town. I might come back only for empanadas one day.
