Me, My wife and two children frequently visit Orlando from Ocala. Having been raised in England where you can find outstanding Indian food pretty much anywhere, the same is not true states side. Central Florida boasts an array of Indian restaurants but very few good and even less outstanding ones. Since we found Charcoal Zyka a month ago, we have driven down an hour to Orlando from Ocala four times already. The food is OUTSTANDING!!!. Aesthetically, its certainly not top notch however the staff are absolutely focused on customer service and their friendly nature and willingness to serve really sets this place apart. The currys are cooked fresh to order and the quality of the end product is comparable to some of the very good indian restaurants in the UK. The food is not loaded with sugar, butter and creams and the combination of spices they use are spot on. The prices in my opinion are waaay to cheap. For this quality of food I would charge a lot more. Sorry if im ruining a good thing, but I believe people should be compensated fairly and Id definitely pay more for this type of food. I would recommend getting your curries medium and not hot as their hot is reeeeeally hot (although thats what I get and love it). The naan bread is fresh and tasty and the samosas are very good. One of my kids doesnt really care for Indian food and has had a burger and Portuguese style chicken and both have been great. Beef Curry, Lamb Jalfrezi and the Biryani are the dishes we have sampled so far and all are AMAZING. I highly recommend this restaurant...you wont regret it!!!!.

There is a lack of quality restaurants in the area that can serve good food at a low cost and keep it delicious.. The fact that everything is made from scratch does contribute to the taste. The Portuguese chicken is good for people who are not a big fan of spice. The other chicken is the "Jerk Chicken" which was also really good. The burgers were exceptional too. The other hidden treasure at this restaurant is their signature Mutton Biryani. Being from family that takes pride in the 19th century Mughal cuisines, knowing the difference between the different types of Biryani, I did find the Biryani here to be different with a very unique taste. Another fact is the quantity of mutton portions which signifies a generous contribution to the natural flavors that lamb/goat brings. This place holds its consistency as Ive eaten here at more than 5 times in 3 years and always find anything new I try to be above average. There is also a dish that has Indian Rahu fish. This dish was made perfectly with the right spices as if you are eating at home. I bet the wild caught fish imported brings out the flavors of the east. This is a perfect place for a family that has everyone craving a different cuisine, American, Indian, Portuguese, West Indian. Theres something for everyone here. Your drive out of the way will be totally worth it if you are just tired of the greasy offerings of the Disney area.

Theres literally a hole in the wall. We were at the Ritz and want to try someth different and close, so Indian sounded delicious. Well it was disgustingly disappointing. The only dish that was decent was the lamb. The butter chicken (which was stated as not spicy, but came out way hott) looked like shredded carrots in sauce and their grille chicken was sOO dry, my son couldnt even bite it.. They threw rice for both entrees in the same takeout box and it was a pathetically dry portion for each quart of entree, which were nearly 12&15$ each. Garlic naan was good though. But what made us never ever want to return for a second try was their gross bathrooms. My son couldnt even bring himself to pee in there & thats pretty bad for a boy to have hesistations about a public restroom! Oh and NO HOT water at the sink. EW, what does that say about the staff washing their hands? Young dudes working were mellow though, but that Asian kid didnt know a single thing on the menu and the Indian kid with glasses was rude when we mentioned how the butter chicken wasnt suppose to be spicy. At least he gave us a piece of grille chicken to make up for it but he clearly picked one that he didnt mind giving away. It was burnt, hard and ridiculously over cooked. Poor bird. Ive been spoiled with places like Taste of India, so i guess well second guess our picks next time. Sad, sounded like an interesting mix.

This place was terrible and we didnt even get our food. So I went last week with my friend. We got there around 5pm. Sat down and looked at the menu. We ordered one chicken, lamb, and beef curry dish along with Chai tea and mango lasses. It took 20 minutes to get my chair tea. When it came out it tasted like it was made with spoiled milk. The lasses came out 40 minutes after we ordered. It had a mango taste but this really off flavor of meat.... After an hour and ten minutes the server comes over and tells us they didnt have beef. When we sat down we were the only ones there. So an hour into waiting they just started our meal. How do you wait an hour before finding out you dont have the meat for an entreee! We left hungry and pissy. We went 8 minutes down the road to the NYPD pizza restaurant. Amazing food! We finished our meal in 25 minutes. We drove to NYPD restaurant and back past the Indian place in under an hour; if youre tired of waiting I recommend going there instead

This is a place I visit with my family every month or so, and I plan to continue to do so. Usually my best experiences are when the owner is present, I have never been disappointed when he is there. If he is not there, sometimes the quality of the food may not be as good, maybe due to a different cook. Also I have occasionally went and they ran out of the my preferred meal there and my family had to settle for other dishes. My favorite menu items include the inferno rice with grilled chicken, or the (pulled) beef briscuit with the hot garlic (orange) sauce. I disagree with the reviewer who said the place was dirty and not presentable. I have never been there and thought that I didnt want to stay because it was dirty. It may not be immaculate but it is certainly on par with any other food establishment.

Honestly, Ive been to lots of great places, but never cared enough nor had the energy enough to write a review for them. But this place right here deserves it 100%. I stopped here on a two day trip in orlando, and ate here both nights. Just order the butter chicken and garlic naan and your entire life will change. Best butter chicken Ive ever had. Their tikka masala(I would eat this everyday), mango lassi, brisket sandwich(so, so, so good), and inferno burger are also all winners. All of which we ordered at my table and enjoyed extremely. As well, the staff is extremely nice and make sure you enjoy your experience, dont bother going to other places.

Amazing food, wonderful service! Our family was visiting from Toronto and heard about this restaurant from relatives who also visited. It is a simple family restaurant outside of the main tourist area. Well worth the drive though! Staff were very friendly and helpful and the service was terrific. The food was so good we ended up eating there 4 out of our 6 nights, each night trying something different. The beef ribs were terrific, and we really loved the chicken tikka masala. They have a very good variety of dishes for all tastes. The price was more than reasonable and the portions were good. I would definitely recommend it!
