I really can not stress how wonderful Tres Amigos is! Just one of those places that combines really great and fresh food with a really friendly laid back atmosphere. Its the place to go to relax after a busy work week. Great place for kids too! The food is always very fresh, they make all their soft shell flour tortillas at the entrance front of you to watch. Youve never had Fajitas so good until youve had theirs. My husband loves the cheesy goodness of the 3 varieties of Queso Dips! The Chicken Tortilla Soup is a personal favorite, large chunks of chicken, supper tasty! if you like soups this is a must try! Large proportions! I have to get a take out box almost every time. On a side note, Ive got one of those supper sensitive stomachs that seems to reject anything I put in it. Ive NEVER had any problems with Tres Amigos, probably because of how fresh everything is. I asked once where they get their food, and for the most part its all fresh and locally grown! Not to mention the awesome and super friendly service! There always on top of everything! hardly do I ask to have my drinks refilled, food always comes out in a timely manner. etc. For the price you really cant bet it! If liked this review, liked Tres Amigos and your in the Brandon area; I also recommend Barnacles near the Brandon mall, really great for seafood.

My husband and I were so excited to try Tres Amigos recently based both on the online reviews and the suggestion of friends. You can tell place was once a Don Pablos but its clean and cheerful and the decor still keeps with the Tex Mex theme. Our server was very attentive and the drink specials were great. Unfortunately, the food was a huge disappointment. Im astounded by all of the great things others have to say about the menu. I would give the place a second chance if we hadnt visited during prime dinner service on a Friday evening when a restaurant should be on its "A Game" so to speak. Everything we ordered was bland, under- or unseasoned, and almost nothing was fresh. Tex Mex doesnt have to be spicy to satisfy, but any food still needs flavor. The guacamole was not made in house, the rice was dried out and stale, the beans were bland, the salsa tasted like it was made from canned ingredients, the tortillas were doughy, and all the proteins were over-cooked to the point of being dry and tough to chew. Id go back to have a drink with a friend at the bar, but never again for a meal. We thought this place had such potential!

First- dont go looking for your traditional "AMERICAN / Mexican" food here because you wont find bland over-sauced, over-cheesed, grease in your gut for 4 hrs after food so if thats what you want dont eat here. If you enjoy fresh, spice, well-grilled, food with attention to detail and consistency of the food look no further! Tonight was the first night that we had tried Tres Amigos (take-out). We recently moved here from San Diego and comfort in the happy medium of a Rubios type style mixed with Baja Fresh and a dash of Chilis in the TexMex arena all with more heat. Honestly, we nearly passed this place up due to the poor reviews and Im thrilled we didnt! Being from the land of wonderful authentic Mexican food I also really appreciated the use of RIPE avocados in the guac- even at higher priced establishments this is a difficult thing to come by. Another pleasant surprise was the stems and bottom of the tomatoes being removed for salsa fresca (which is something you wont find in So Cal for the most part and really helps with the texture of the food). EXCELLENT tortillas and chips to boot.

Wow, this place was the biggest let down.... EVER. They had the worst drinks ever and we sent them back because they were super super sweet. We then ordered top shelf margaritas and the super sweet problem happened again... so we sent back our second round of drinks. THIS IS THE AWESOME PART: The bartender got visibly mad and threw her hands up at our server, because we were watching, poured more liquor into the same drinks and sent them back to us. LOL, and was not discreet at all... we saw the whole thing. So we refused them again and laughed at the bar tender being butt hurt. Next, the manager came over to us and told us we required perfect drinks and she was now overseeing our order (since we had returned 6 drinks lol ** not really **, was incredibly rude, and acted completely hostile. We were dumbfounded at her anger/stupidity/lack of understanding that we paid for our guacamole and left. I have been in the serving industry before and am still shocked and hope that you dont give them the chance to treat you this way. Bad Bartender, worse manager lady.

Servers were great and Attentive. Left my tip for their work only. Not the food. I Ordered the tres amigos fajitas, only the steak and chicken looked like it touched any part of a grill. The bacon was sad looking on the shrimp. Not crispy. Looked wet, water wet. The onions and peppers looked boiled. Only the spots where it touched the sizzling plate it was served in were dark. The soft tortilla shells that came with my meal were shiny and see through. Meaning they were tossed in the microwave to heat them. Same with my daughters quesadilla, looked to be thrown together and microwaved. I know cheaper establishments heat with microwaves to save money and usually reflect that in prices. But getting this quality of food and charging the same as nicer Mexican food restaurants does not sit well with me. I have only submitted two reviews in the past four years. But I had to share. If you want a good, great, beer and maybe some mediocre bar food, come here. Other than that stay away until they put some good cooks in the kitchen or revamp their food preparing policy.

I feel we came on a less than ideal day. Hot and house salsa with chips were fresh and delightful. I got the pick three combo and my food was good. My daughter and friends both got steak fajitas but not that hot sizzling off the grill sensation expected when ordering fajitas. The meat marinated but no extra grill seasoning and was on a bed of onions with hardly any peppers. Our friends sent back their dish and the manager came to the table to apologize for the kitchen staff and comped their meal. Only issue I had with my pick 3 combo was that my toppings for my taco were swapped with my husbands. Overall the place has great potential. Very open and inviting atmosphere. Tortillas are made out in the open which was pretty interesting to watch. The friends who were with us informed us this was not their best experience but that normally the fajitas are a hit and the margaritas are very well received. If you plan on heading this way, head to the Sams club. This place is hard to find if relying on GPS alone so you are better off finding Sams first.

We visited on a Wednesday night and it was not very busy. The hostess greeted us friendly and started to seat us when another waitress/hostess corrected her to another servers area...fair enough, mistakes or miscommunication happens. Once seated, it took us 10 minutes to get our drink order and another 10 minutes for our food order after that. While waiting, I observed that the hostess was having trouble figuring out where to seat people and would start to lead a party to a table only to stop, tell them to wait in the middle of the restaurant while she went and checked the seating board at the front again to direct them to a new table. I also noticed that they were overloading one servers section and this is what was causing the delay in our service. Our server was very polite even with the amount of tables in his scope. Overall the food was good quality and the service was polite; however, the long wait and hostesses constant miscues bring the score down. I do look forward to trying Tres Amigos again and I hope our experience was just a one off.
