The Wydown Coffee Bar is definitely one of the coolest coffee shops in DC and not only that, but they serve quality coffee and baked goods in one of the coolest DC neighborhoods, U Street NW. Only a few blocks from the U Street Metro Station, The Wydown Coffee Bar is a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of DC. The Wydown has a garage door that opens in good weather giving it a very cool vibe especially on a sunny day. There are several tables throughout the coffee shop from long tables to single tables. Theres no wifi, but in a social media obsessed culture, I think its refreshing. They make a mean iced latte and unlike other coffee shops, they have simple syrup to add to it at the bar. Also, their cookies are AMAZING! Try the coconut chocolate chip cookies. They are perfectly moist and so good. Ill for sure be back to The Wydown!

I was in DC a couple of months ago with my mom. Being a major foodie (a given, as I am a pastry chef) I was relentlessly searching, but was having a hard time locating, a cup of high quality cappuccino. It was a major letdown that I was able to find a better cup in my town of Providence RI than in DC (a major tourist city). Finally the day before we were supposed to leave we came across the Wydown (I wanted to check the hype about Trader Joes as the one in RI is too far away from me). Short story: after 4 days of being caffeine free I found the holy grail! If you are in DC, give them a visit. theyre cappuccino is heavenly. the beans were roasted to perfection, the milk was heated to the right temp without me having to ask for that temp (as I do in most Starbucks). I hope they will still be around the next time I visit DC.

Spent this past weekend jumping from shop to shop in NYC, then went to Wydown on my way home. It was amongst the top three shops Ive ever been to (in the company of Methodical in Greenville and Brash in Atlanta) and far better than any of the dozens of shops Ive visited in New York. My espresso was perfectly extracted and delicious, there was excellent and decently priced merchandise, the atmosphere was great, and most importantly, I received incredibly friendly customer service. I would highly recommend this shop.

Fantastic coffee, my new favorite shop in the area. Good drip and espresso options. They also have a nice selection of pastries. What I like most is that they buy beans from a number of roasters so what Ive had there has been great. The bags are also reasonably priced (for high end/third wave beans) and you get a free pour-over when you buy a bag which is a great deal. Despite the quality it usually isnt that full, they seem to keep up a steady business but Ive never had a problem finding a seat.

Friendly and laid back as the baristas take their coffee seriously, but not themselves. Such a breath of fresh air in todays world of snobby "I know more than you" run of the mill coffee shops. Their doing it right, will attempt to make WHATEVER it is you order and all with a smile. Oh, and its locally owned as they support other locals products!

One of the few places Ive found where they actually bake their pastries on site, and theyre quite good and often original. I think its run by two brothers, who like the rest of the staff are very friendly. No wifi, which is a pleasant change. Its a place I go when I need to focus on thinking work (as opposed to busy work).

Perfect place to stop for breakfast or a coffee on your way into the office or before an early morning run to any of the nearby shops. Their pastry selection is excellent--dont miss the andouille, cheddar, and chive biscuit and the berry scone was also delicious. There is pretty limited seating.

Unobtrusive background music, a radical shift from its craft coffee brethren (ahem, Chinatown Coffee, ahem). Extraordinarily pleasant staff, popping smiles with prompt service. Coffee handled expertly. Sparse, but communal tables bring a hint of coziness.

Great coffee option on the 14th street corridor. Probably the best thing you can do is invest in one of the fancy pour over options; talk to the barista to figure out a flavor that matches what youre in the mood for and you wont regret the $5 investment.

Very nice atmosphere with great options for tea, coffee, and more. Also some nice pastries. It can be a little short on space when its busy, but overall great experience. staff are helpful too.

I visiting the Wydown coffee shop twice within my 24 hour visit to DC. They have a wonderful selection of coffee as well as great pasty options - with one or two gluten free vegan options.

No WiFi, but that keeps people moving and helps to ensure that if you want to sit and enjoy your drink, you can. I loved their iced green tea, and the selection of baked good is delicious.

Great coffee, obnoxious check-out. Essentially every time you check-out they ask you to "confirm your check-out" by adding a tip or not. Its overly obtrusive and extremely obnoxious.

Good coffee selection, possibly DCs best scone maker and a great set of baristas makes this my go to. It is a bit small inside, but there are outside tables when it gets nice out.

Excellent raspberry scone. Iced latte was also quite good! Barista was determined to rush us along, which put a damper on the experience. Small indoor and outdoor seating area.

The space and location is great. Their devotion to making a great cup of pour over is always a delight to drink before heading to shows at the Black Cat.

The cookies and coffee are the perfect way to perk yourself up after a long day or before an eventful evening. On a scale of 1 to Nutella, a solid 13.

Great coffee, wide selection of coffees and teas. Very busy though so not many chairs available. Lots of customers buying coffee and cakes to go.

Amazing espresso, served right. Baked goods are also great. This place focuses on flavors over comfort. No WiFi, so not a place to sit for hours.

Yummy caps and baked goods. Some outdoor seating and high top tables. Good for people and dog watching on weekends. One of my favorites in DC.

No wifi, which is a bit silly for a coffeeshop. BUT: the best freaking hot chocolate weve ever had. Would go back there just for that. Yum!

Great coffee bar with rotating selections of U.S. roasters. Yummy on-site baked goods too! Beware: seating is limited and fills up fast.

Coffee is subpar and the price is way too high. There are much better coffee shops in the DC area. Its also very crowded to sit down.

Always well made and great pastries. Only drawback is, everyone knows how good the place is, so its almost always crowded.
