I have dined at Floriana on 3 occasions but the last 2 times have been disappointing, mainly for customer service reasons. Hopefully the management reads these reviews and will act upon the constructive criticism. One Sunday I went to brunch with a friend and simply wanted pancakes with sausages on the side. I specifically mentioned this to the waitress. She suggested an item which turned out to have a creamy sauce of sausages/mushrooms rather than actual sausages. When I explained what I ordered she did not seem engaged and was not interested in correcting the issue. I asked for a side order of sausages stating that I did not want to eat the creamy soup like sauce. I was brought a side order but charged extra for this on the bill. The second disappointing experience was taking my friend out for a birthday dinner. I called for reservations earlier that day but nobody answered the phone. I left a message but when I arrived at the restaurant they told me it was full so we had to sit outside. I generally dont mind sitting outside except for being bitten by mosquitos. It turns out that the restaurant had bug spray but did not offer it until I asked. On to the dinner. Before ordering the risotto I specifically asked if the dish had onions which I do not eat. I was reassured by the waiter that there were no onions. Sure enough, when I began to eat the food I could taste onions and found some shallots in the dish. Again, when I politely pointed this out to the waiter all I got was "Im sorry" rather than a genuine attempt to address/fix the problem. The food was ok but I probably wont be going back soon.

A missed flight had us extend our stay in DC by one night and we were fortunate enough to find this gem in Google Maps under favorites local to the Dupont Circle area. After reading the reviews of quite a few Italian restaurants what sealed the deal were the photos of the food and presentation. One of the reviews advised booking prior to arriving so we made a booking for 7pm on a Tuesday at 6pm. We turned the corner into the street a short 10 minute stroll from our hotel and my husband though a family were having a gathering on the front patio in the summer. When I told him that this was the restaurant he was pleasantly surprised. From the initial surprise of a large red home turned restaurant we climbed up the steps and were greeted promptly by Marco who then catered to us the entire night. To say he was attentive to our every need is an understatement. From recommending cocktails to making sure I wasnt seated near a large group (who were yet to arrive) and surprising me with my entree when I just couldnt decide between the lobster and black squid ink Pasta and the Duck, Wine recommendations and even a complimentary glass of wine when he saw how much i enjoyed my first two ( :) ) It got busy throughout the night with peak dining time around 8.30pm. Excellent all round. My classic mussels as appetizer were delicious too. Hubby had the Caesar salad for apps ant the Red snapper (fillet) for Entree. Wish I had taken better photos .

I booked a table a couple of weeks before a dinner. I was told that I can get a window seat on the first floor (which I get used to and which I usually like). I was also told, by a man, that there will be a large party on that day, but I was told very clearly that the party will be placed on the second floor and so would not affect me. On the day of arrival, to my disappointment, the girl who arranged our seat placed the large party on the first floor and us on the second floor, which was much worse in terms of decor etc. No window seat. And even more to my disappointment, there emerged another big party group on the second floor as well. There were plenty of good restaurants around DC, and the only reason I chose this one is I thought it would not be too loud. And I was totally wrong. When I was seated, there was no greetings from the waiter as they were so busy with the large parties. The food is bearable, but not outstanding. I guess a bad review is not so much loss to them compared to big parties or groups which can bring them much money. But still I want to warn people like me who kind of naively believed that they care.

Such a hidden gem in Upper Dupont. One of the below the radar places for Bistro Italian in DC proper. This is a nice independently-run restaurant. Owner Dino Tapper took over the reigns of Floriana from his mother (whos 1st name is the name of the venue), and has continued the success of restaurant. ** FOOD **: Rustic Italian. Their in-house Pastas especially are quite good, but the other entree dishes arent slouches (such as Muscovy Duck Breast, Pan-Seared Salmon, or Sea Scallops). Theres winners on each dining course. Plating and service here is quite good as well. Entree prices vary between $19 - upper 20s. There should be enough options for all. ** SPACE **: Converted older row house, quite homey ... some say a great relaxed romantic place.

The overall service was atrocious, we were seated in an area without any AC, the ceiling fan did nothing to abate the rediculous temperatures. Wait staff didnt offer bread, but did to our neighboring tables who were inches away. Half of us had drink orders taken, the rest of us had to make do with water. Any attempt to get a drink was met with "Ill be right there." The black gnocchi was disappointing due to the sheer amount of bacon overpowering it. And the scollop risotto only had two very small gritty pieces for the size of the dish. It took well over an hour to be served our main course and with the lack of service, space and comfort, I cannot recommend this restaurant, especially at peak times.

It is hard for me to describe what a what a wonderful and pleasant evening I had a Floriana. Maybe it was the beautiful, gated outdoor patio overlooking a quaint neighborhood, or the wonderful service, or the 1/2 price bottle of wine (which was delicious), or the incredible food. It was likely all of those things and more which made my experience so wonderful. The cheese and meat plater is particularly delicious, as is the lasagne and chocolate mousse cake. It is located not far from the White House and the walk brings you through beautiful neighborhoods and parks with monuments and statues. I would return here in a heartbeat and plan on telling everyone about this amazing place.

My husband and I had a romantic (and delicious) date night at Floriana on a recent summer Saturday night. We sat inside at a cozy back table and thoroughly enjoyed the dimly lit, intimate ambiance of the old Dupont rowhouse-- probably would be even more romantic on a cold winters night. The food was extremely fresh and fantastic-- we shared a panzanella salad (a new addition to the summer menu, highly recommended!). I enjoyed the local farmers vegetable risotto, while my husband loved his zuppa de pesce-- filled to the brim with assorted fresh seafood. The service was excellent. We will definitely return soon!

Excellent service started the meal and continued throughout! Went for the Winter Restaurant Week and it was an excellent deal! You order from the full menu, and they give very generous (regular sized) Restaurant Week portions. The Black Gnocchi was good. Included 2 shrimps, and a very good andouille sausage sauce. Had the duck breast for entree. Very well cooked and seasoned. Finished with the tiramisu and coffee. Overall wonderful place for a date, dinner with your girlfriends, or a nice parents dinner. Plus the cilantro pesto to start with a heaping plate of crusty bread. Go if youre in the area.
