We went for lunch. It took about 45 minutes to receive our food on a Friday afternoon, though the restaurant was 50% full. The "Cuban" sandwich was nothing special. The pork, ham and swiss cheese just lay there with little taste. Mustard did little to add spice. Another in our party did like the BBQ pork. My sandwhich looked like it had been flattened. The $8+ burger that a co-worker had didnt look too special - Id recommend he spend that kind of money at a place like Max Burger. Prices are about $9 for a sandwich. There is no lunch menu or specials to speak of. Given the prices, I was really limited to the sandwiches at lunch, as I wasnt in the mood to spend $12+ for an entree. For $9, they should have something like sweet potato fries instead of regular french fries. There were bees on the patio that stung a little girl. The bus boy came out a few times with food and headed for the wrong table. The waitress had to re-direct him to the tables inside where the diners had moved. The waitress didnt acknowledge the delay in getting our food. A couple who arrived after us was leaving the restaurant, having been served, BEFORE we got our food. A woman at another table left her party because it was clear she had to be somewhere. Another in our group of 4 said "this is not the place to go on your lunch break." We passed up Doms Broadstreet Eatery to eat at Union Street, because Union Street seemed to have more character - too bad, as the menu at Doms seems more varied, with better prices.

Great beer selection and food options. I ordered the pesto penne chicken and it was so creamy and very good. The French onion soup was recommended by our very friendly waitress and was good as well. The atmosphere is really neat since I believe it is in an old fire house and they have cool historic things posted throughout. This is a louder location, somewhat difficult to hear one another due to very rowdy, distracting patrons (so we may have picked an off day). It wasnt overly crowded but mixed drinks took a while to arrive and we awkwardly waited for a table as the hostess left to "get a table ready" and we watched her chat with some of her other workers for a while just standing at the entrance. When we proceeded to walk over to the table when she sill hadnt returned, the manager rushed over to say we needed to be seated at the tables in the bar and then he searched for the hostess to confirm we could. Very uncomfortable. Other than that, pleasant experience.

How can food presented so deliciously looking be so devoid of taste? I had the fried cod sandwich with some kind of sauce on the side. The fish had absolutely no taste whatsoever. I have no idea what was in that sauce or what it was all about. One person in our party had lobster mac & cheese. Still wandering where the cheese was. Very dry and tasteless. The garlic bread it came with had a very overpowering taste of garlic from a jar. Another person in our party of three had the encrusted steak with shoe string onions on top. The steak was very fatty and gristly, obviously not a very good cut of beef. We have been to Union Street Tavern on many occasions, each time the food getting not so interesting. I guess we will have to find another place to spend our restaurant dollars. Too bad. I hope Union can improve.

I go to Union St Tavern regularly and their prices are NOT ridiculous. You can get a delicious sandwich for lunch for under $9 (hello???...has anyone been to McDonalds lately - $7 for a Quarter Pounder meal) NOT a heck of a lot cheaper. If you go to Ruby Tuesdays, Chilis, Fridays - any of those places - their entree prices are no cheaper - but the food at Union St is much, much better. They have a great varied menu that will accommodate anyones wallet. Their fish and chips are the best I have tried in a long time (definitely the best of anywhere around here). Im not comprehending the review below. The prices are the same as chain restaurants that are of a far less caliber.

I went here after seeing an article in the Advocate. I was not disappointed at all. I had a Tuscany Salad with grilled chicken, fresh mozzarella, kalamata olives, and polenta croutons which was very good. It would have been right on the money if a roll or some bread was served with it. The service was very good, and not overbearing. The food came out a little slow, not bad. The prices are about $1-1.50 higher than the place calls for, but Id go back.

I dont know why others had poor service. I have been there several times and service was always good, and most of the time excellent. One of the owners is always on site. And were there teenagers serving? I doubt it. - Most places that serve alcohol wont hire people under 21 - too dangerous. They have an upstairs dining room, and a "back" room to rent for parties. I have never had a bad meal, and recommend it to out of towners all the time.

The service was attentive and the food was good - better than average bar food. The Tavern Jungle Juice and Tavern Twist were both sweet, fruity, and refreshing. The 3 alarm wings were hot, but did not scorch the tongue. The Limonchello Mascarpone was light and creamy. My least favorite was the stuffed mushrooms, mostly because the gorgonzola sauce was a bit heavy on the top, but I would probably still order it again.

Absolutely LOVE UST! The menu is varied and delicious - Ive ordered almost everything off of it and always enjoyed my meal. Drinks are always well made and delicious. The atmosphere is unique as its an old firehouse. Recommended for lunch, happy hour, dinner, after-dinner drinks or any time in between! Make sure to check out the special events they have throughout the year - always a ton of fun!

The prices are what you would expect for a non-fast food, not high end restaurant ($9-$13/burger, $6-$10/apps, etc). The service has been good, the food has been great, and the location is nice (it can be loud on the patio when trains go by, but its easy to get there). The multiple times we went there, we have been in and out in about 30-40 minutes. I would recommend this restaurant.

I like the food and the vibe here. The service is hit or miss sometimes and varies depending on your server is. I have had really good happy hour experiences and a bad later in the evening one (Waited almost 30 min just to get a menu). I would recommend giving this place a try because the food really is awesome and they generally have a nice variety of beer on their tap list.

First visit, and I will be back for sure ! The Meal was one of the best Ive had anywhere. I had the special, which ought to be added to the menu IMHO, Portabella ravioli, with a red pepper & lobster crème sauce, fantastic! The service was quick, warm & friendly. The prices very reasonable. Oh yeah, and the beer was local, fresh, & cold ! I have found a new favorite.
