I am torn because I have been to this bar several times, and while there are some very good things about this place, the ineptitude they show at such simple things absolutely astounds me. With the number of beers on tap and available in bottle, it can only be assumed that this is a beer bar. Not a Bud or Coors type of bar but a bar in which you can most likely have a hard to find beer. Having said that it should be assumed that the staff be capeable of suggesting a beer if you would like to try something new....and more expensive...than theyre normal Heineken go to beer. Because I am paying a premium price for my hard to find beer, and will most likely have 2 or 3, I would like a decent pour in my glass. When a beer comes to the table a half inch below the rim of the glass with an inch of head.....I am less than entheusastic. Not for.....on average...$8.00 a beer. Happy hour is marginal at best. Would be nice if a beer bar had beer specials. Not so much. Beers that are $7.00 or less are $2.00 off... not a great selection there. They do have some good food selections for happy hour, however they are all appetizer type foods. Unfortunately I will continue to frequent this bar because the beer selection is so much better than anything else in New Haven. Hopefully someone will make a change.

Coming from San Diego I was so pleased to see the craft beer craze had made it to New Haven. The beer selection from across the country and international was pleasing. Beers were well classified and the prices and pours are on par with any good craft brewery in the US. Surprisingly the staff was quite rude. They had an average knowledge of the beers they were pouring but couldnt recommend beers to my friends before I got there. Not a problem for me since I was familiar with most of the beers, but most of my friends were sitting around with beers they werent happy with. 1230 rolls along for last call. 1250 and our delicious beers were taken from us and we were unceremoniously kicked out. Sure enough, the sign on the door said 1:00, not 1250. It was completely uncalled for and put a damper on our holiday celebration. Hope they can figure out that beer doesnt sell itself. The staff and their attitude and their knowledge are also a part of the sell for any good bar. Still for now the only place in town to find great craft beers. Hope they figure out how to manage a business. Caveat Emptor.

Cast is easily one of my favorite places to go in New Haven. They have a fantastic beer selection that rotates all the time and what looked like a decent selection of Scotch as well. The food options are a little limited but everything they do make is phenomenal. I highly recommend the lamb pastrami reuben. Atmosphere: can get a bit crowded on the weekends but otherwise great place for small or larger groups, especially if you get there before the crowd on a Friday.

Fantastic beer selection. The food has improved significantly in the past year or so since they shook up the kitchen staff. Get the lamb Reuben if its on the menu, its amazing. No problems at the bar, but the wait staff can be a little inattentive if you have a table. I dont think this is entirely the staffs fault though, they always appear to be a little under staffed on busy nights.

Looking for a quiet place where you can get a gourmet burger or pesto macaroni and cheese or something a little more exotic and an amazing selection of beers and ciders? This is your place. Great service and convenient parking (the Temple St. garage is right across the street). Quick walk to the Shubert or College Street Music Hall.

This place is phenomenal. My SO and I were driving to Cape Cod and we wanted to stop somewhere for dinner. Its not often that Im blown away by a bowl of soup, but the Chicken Coconut Curry Soup was incredible. The Cask Burger was great as well. Not to mention, their beer list is top notch. I repeat, this place is PHENOMENAL.

An excellent, ever-changing selection of beers, and the best steak Ive had in New Haven. Its only on the specials menu, but if theyre serving it when you go, get it rare. Its that good. In general, avoid beers from Connecticut, no matter how tempting it may be to drink local. If you want New England, go for Vermont.

Without a doubt, one of the best beer bars in New Haven, or anywhere. If that werent enough, the food is excellent. The dim lighting and comfortable seating make this an ideal place for a relaxing night, be it with friends or on a date. While its vibe is casual, its definitely a step up.

Usually a good place to hang out in a group. But I have noticed that the busier it is, the longer it takes for hosts to come by your table. For a big group, I would definitely suggest telling your host at the very start to split the checks just to make things easier.

Nice selection of food and always incredible beer list. The prices may be a bit high, but they are in a prime location. The decor is nice whether with friends or on a date and the space is large. The service has been good the times Ive been here.

While I dont dig the crowd here, the beer list is very solid and the bartenders are always attentive and friendly. The beer prices are a bit high and the menu is unimaginative, but when it comes down to it, youre here for good beer, right?

Union League Café has been one of our favorite restaurants in New Haven for quite a while, and their Valentines Day dinner was wonderful. There were three seatings and a prix fixe menu. We had an earlier seating and got stuck in traffic.

Just finished. I had the mussels.... one of the best preparations that I can remember... The husband who doesnt like them dipped in. He had the lamb bacon salad. Waiter was great help in suggesting beer. Love the ambiance.

Great craft beers and great atmosphere. The waitresses helped you at any table and the bar. There is a living room set up in the back and front. Very unique chill place. Always bring my friends here

Overpriced. Awful service. They cant pour a beer and they cant differentiate between beers. Beer list is extensive but you still cant get a real bitter ale. Go to Kellys if you want proper pint.

A great place to go for Overpriced Beer that is better served at home with friends. But if your going out and dont want to drink shcwill... they have a decent selection that you will pay for.

Excellent beer menu always changing. Prices are pretty average. Only not rating it 5 stars because the food is a bit hit or miss. Some items are really overpriced for what they are

Best beer bar in CT. Great young professional and graduate student crowd. Entrées are very good (highly recommend) but not cheap. Burger was only slightly above average.
