I wanted a Gyro and hummus today, a Sunday. My favorite Mediterainean food establishment was closed. I appreciate the fact that they give their employees Sunday off and take this day of rest. Hesitantly,I decided to try a new place, The Sagara Cafe. This was my first visit to Sahara Cafe and this is my opinion: I placed a to go order. The staff was friendly and my order was ready when I got there. Being a Mediterainean style cafe I assumed I could play it safe and order a Gyro with extra meat and hummus with pita. Just to check my thoughts I opened the bag when I got in the car to give it all a taste before the drive home. My fear and hesitation was confirmed.the food was not prepared well and was a little unappealing. The hummus was almost as liquid as a soup. The pita had little to no flavor and was cold. I should have known better when I asked if the swarma/ lamb/ beef was on a vertical cone and they were clueless. Meat on the pia was warm and had ltie flavor. Ordering and paying for extra meat I expected more. Then the shocker no feta cheese. I had to request feta cheese. The next time I have a Gyro and Hummus craving in a Sunday I will wait until Monday!

Very, rude staff, we were greeted by a waiter with a very strong attitude as soon as we walked in, once in, the waiter proceeded to yell GO WAIT OUTSIDE although there was enough seating, then once we placed our order, we received the drinks, my son drank his soda and then accidently dropped his cup, only the ice dropped, to this, the other waitress responded by yelling, "WHAT ARE YOU A KID" and then grabbed a kids cup ran over to our table and slammed it on the table, to this the other customers laughed and she laughed with them, my family was very upset so we decided to cancel our order, to our surprise our food has been ready for a very long time, and just hasnt been brought out yet, once we told the waitress to cancel the order so we can pay for drinks and leave she responds with "what do you want me to do?? Pay for it??" We responded with "the service was terrible and your racist" to which she responds "sorry Im busy with PAYING customers." As if we were there for free. VERY TERRIBLE STAFF, EXTREMELY RACIST AND VERY VERY RUDE

Not bad. Not the best. Middle of the road for sure. I had the lamb kabob. You Can Be Sure Your Meat is seasoned to perfection claims the website. The lamb was fatty and under spiced. It seemed pan fried. The pita was good. The hummus yum, was textured nice and had chickpea garnish. You could see the olive oil. Tzatziki sauce was decent although tasted of dill and seemed stringy. They claim they use secret ingredients. Perhaps I was detecting these secrets? Middle Eastern flavors are always a bonus in my travels. But I have had much better. It filled my craving belly in time of lamb need though. That was what I really needed. Lamb. I had a lamb need. The iced tea was sweet with mint, which was a shock, but a traditional flavoring. Must stay hydrated though. The service was great, the staff friendly and the location quaint in the heart of historic Manitou Springs. If jonesin for Middle Eastern foods give it a try. I will try it again. I always give places a second chance. I look forward to my return. Ill be glad I did.

Horrific Sensation
1/7/17 5 stars. Great service, nice and thoughtful servers, amazing food! Definitely going again! Everything was tasty! And I loved the sage black tea and I normally dont drink tea. 7/3/17 Ate here with my boyfriend, younger cousin, and nephew today! Was delicious like the other couple times Ive went (with my boyfriend as well). Definitely became our regular place to go to eat if we are going to Manitou Springs! We all enjoyed our food with no disappointments or complaints! We love the Baklava too! The staff seems to always be nice and patient as well.

Ive been to various miditerrean food spots around the country and Ive always liked it, but from the first bite of my veggie plate at Sahara desert I knew it deserved 5 stars. Just amazing. Hummus was nice and creamy, the pita bread was soft fluffy and full of flavor. The grape leaves were warm. The falafel was yummy. Great service and prices. If manitou was closer Id go every day but I will make it a routine to go every time Im in the area. I was so satisfied!

Great food & good price. The management here is incredibly welcoming and accommodating. (They even deliver to locals!) This is my go-to-spot for quick Gyro, the best fries in Manitou, or just a cup of the AMAZING sage tea (hot or cold). They are always trying new specials. The Buffalo Meat Kebab is excellent, I just tasted the green lentil soup, & will check out the nachos next time (Tex-Mex fusion?). The homemade Baklava alone is worth a stop! :)

I was on a vacation and decided I need something yummy... looked at google reviews and dropped by this place. First awesome effect very welcoming staff Second awesome effect the waiter for too much cool good smile and wonderful to talk to guy Third awesome effect very nice food definitely a good place for any mid eastern folks Indians and all other Asians and as far as Americans wanna try something good , This place is spot on.

I was on my way to houston and wanted to eat here. Ordered mixed kabab and started waiting. 45 minutes passed and still no food. I had to ask few times. Server came to me to tell unconvincingly that my order wasnt cooked. I got into my car and drove to tx. Btw I saw the owner smoking outside instead of cooking my meal. Message taken. I will never ever deal with or say hi this type of ppl or establishment.

I cant review the food since we didnt get to have any. So we went in and its "seat yourself" which is fine. We sat down and waited. And waited. No menus. So we thought, its kind of busy and there is only one so okay we will wait. Then two came in about 10min after we sat down and two were brought to them right away. After that we walked out after a few minutes. Dont why they didnt want us to eat there.

Our favorite restaurant in Manitou Springs. The Beef Shwarma is amazing. We always get cheese fries, they are like none other you have ever tried. You have to try the tea also, unique and delightful. The best bang for your buck as far as sit down restaurants in Manitou. In the six years we have been going there, it has always been consistently delicious, at any time of year, not just summer.

The restaurant was clean and orderly. Max seated us and took our order. We ordered the Beef Shwarma with extra tzatziki sauce and drinks. It took about 10 minutes to get the food and it was awesome. It was perfectly prepared with a nice blend of spices. The portions were just right, served in a foil wrap. Max was quick to refill our drinks and was personable. I will be back often.
