We stopped in yesterday morning for breakfast, on our way out of town from our first stay in the area. At first glance the prices seemed a little steep, but as there is little choice for breakfast in the area, and we had a long trip ahead, we wanted to make this brunch. The portions were large enough, and I would say better warranted the larger prices. All of our party of nine really enjoyed there food except my brother, whod ordered the Mexican pizza from the menu. We all really enjoy a lot of spice, and he saw it came with jalapeños, which he loves, but it otherwise not differentiated as being an overly spicy dish on the Mexican menu. He was only able to eat less than 1/4 of the pizza, as there was literally an entire jars worth of hot canned jalapeños on his pizza. He let me try a bite (because I like spicy stuff on an even greater scale than he), and I was literally gulping my water and needing refills. When we questioned the waitress about it, she went to ask the manager and she came back with the message, "he said hes not willing to do anything about it because the menu said it had jalapeños on it." Really? Thats how you treat customers? Perhaps you could have come out to view the mound of jalapeños he collected from just the second quarter of the dish. I highly suggest you avoid the Mexican Pizza, especially since they dont give you any warning that its a fire-breathing dish. What a huge waste of money, as we had to then provide him food from yet another restaurant because he was still very hungry in a couple hours time after allowing his stomach to recover.

Ill admit from the start that its not fair to rate a business on one single experience, but when that single experience prompted us to walk out before our meal came, I probably should mention it. Long story short, we are Coloradans who come through Fairplay regularly and decided to stop and eat here. Very small place, so noise carries. We were unfortunate enough to be seated in a booth next to an employee (a busser) who stood at the next booth and loudly talked and talked and talked to the diners seated there with absolutely no regard for those diners (all but one of whom were clearly ignoring her so she would go away) nor the diners at the two adjacent booths. Im talking 5-10 minutes. Finally my wife and I moved to a table at the farthest end, making eye contact with the diners in the other booth who rolled their eyes, also put off by this employee. Our server found us after we moved and apologized, but do you think she or anyone there asked the loud employee to get back to work or to hold it down? Nope. We finally got up and walked out, quietly informing our waitress and another adult employee why we were leaving. Oh sorry, they both said, while the Loud One continued to chatter away. Not the owner, mind you, but a busser. There arent that many places in tiny Fairplay to eat but we found the South Park Steakhouse two blocks away and were delighted. Well go there instead each time we dine in Fairplay.

I just got burned by them. I ordered a breakfast burrito, two pancakes and a side of hash browns and it was $17.48. I double checked it with the menu and they overcharged me for EVERYTHING and didnt back down on the prices. They add things to your order when you do not request them, and then expect extra payment on top of what you ordered???? I have been going here for years, I live 2 blocks away, but never again. Its one thing for local businesses in the mountains to burn tourists, but when you burn the locals I boycott. When my wife called the manager later, he stood up for his waitstaff, which is good that hes standing up for his workers, but when the waitress added extras to the bill he thought I had ordered them. I have eaten here for the past 4 years, and that particular order usually goes for about $12, so I refuse to go back. Way to lose a loyal customer guys, I wont be coming back, not after the way you treated me today. I have been nothing but respectful, and always tip well, and right now I am just confused as to why they would do this to anyone, much less a loyal customer that has never complained once. Go to Millonzis or any of the other great resteraunts in town, they wont over charge you like the Burro.

Weve enjoyed breakfast and lunch many times at the Burro. Have passed it by when they are slammed - always check for full parking spaces and lines waiting to sit. (hate lines, hate traffic). Never have had a bad experience, always delicious food, most efficient and always friendly service. Recognized as a friend every time even though I have no idea who they are. Bill for meal always what I expected, noticed some people say they are overcharged? Prob same idiots who sit in rush hour traffic on weekdays going to work then sit in ski resorts morning and afternoon slammed traffic on weekends going to play. Read the menu! You pay for what you order. Then leave a big tip - try to understand what its like to have to deal with rude, impatient, better than everyone else who know they are the only ones who know what is right people...you know - Democrats. Gawd, That felt good! Dave Novak

Not only was the food appalling, but it was completely overpriced. I ordered the chicken fajitas for $17, and when it came my wife observed in horror that what I had assumed to be chicken breast was, in fact, reconstituted chicken. I am certain that the tomato bisque we ordered came from a can, and this was from their specials board. It seems as though the guiding principle was to use the lowest quality ingredients known to man. But the thing that was most depressing, the thing that really left a bad taste in my mouth was the full tables and the people waiting to be seated. This restaurant is an insult to the good people of fair play and those who pass through it.

This is by far our favorite place to grab breakfast in town. Although it can get pretty busy in the summer months, it is always worth the wait. I havent had anything I dont like, however, the Smothered Breakfast Burrito or the Juevos Rancheros are my favorites! The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. We have only been there once for lunch and were equally happy with both the service and food. This is a must stop location if youre passing through.

I dont know what these people are talking about with poor service and bad food. Its one of my favorite places in Colorado. Everyone who works there has been friendly and although the waits been a little long at certain times, Ive never had a bad experience. The food is delicious and it has that at-home mountain atmosphere. I recommend it if youre ever in Fairplay - as a local or a tourist.

Ive eaten at the Brown Burro for lunch and dinner, and its not that great. Its fine, and its probably one of the best places in Fairplay, but its not very good. The food is plain and simple, and they tend to "nickel and dime" you with the extras. Its location is what keeps it in business, I suspect, and thats probably why Ill be back again someday.
