The food and atmosphere are good, no complaints there. The issue is my credit card information was stolen and this was only place I used the card while in LA (June 15, 2017). We sat at an outside table and the waiter said he needed to open a tab at the bar because we ordered alcohol; he took my card and kept it for the duration of the visit. I understand this is typical practice when your ordering alcohol at the bar; however, holding on to a credit card is not normal when eating a sit down restaurant. I wasnt comfortable with the situation, but decided to go with it since we really wanted to eat here because we had heard great things about it. Needless to say, if youre looking to eat at the Venice Whaler, be careful as there is definitely someone working there that finds criminal activity acceptable and you may end up with your credit card info stolen. ps - kudos to Chase credit card for catching the fraudulent activity so quickly.

Man I want to give the Whaler a better rating, but for the premium price everything should be damned near perfect, especially the service. Obviously the location is the big draw, with sunset views worth the airfare to get there. But the service however was a deal breaker that dropped my experience to a solid "meh." When my partner told our server that the mix of her diet coke didnt taste right, she left to get a new one and then informed us that she just added a bit of water to thin it out... Uh okay...? I enjoyed most of the food but didnt appreciate extra salt on seasoned fries. When I told the server she dismissed it saying "sometimes salt is all you really need."... I guess...? I dont know, I just felt like our admittedly minor complaints werent listened to. Its a shame really, because now those issues, and how they werent addressed, are what I remember most about my meal.

Food was okay, but definitely overpriced for the portions. I would have no complaints about my food if the service from Jennifer was absolutely terrible. I saw her twice. The hostess had to get our drink order because we waiting for about 7 minutes without being greeted. Then after another 10 minutes, Jennifer finally came to get our food order. She walked by MULTIPLE times without glancing at us for an order though. Our food finally comes out, we finish the meal, I saw Jennifer walk by multiple times, yet didnt even check on us, and I had to ask the hostess for a box and the check, she then had to find Jennifer to print the check for us. I have 8 years of serving experience and 4 years of bartending, I am VERY lenient when it comes to people being busy, but that was terrible.

This place is crowded, its busy, its loud. Its really fun! Go for happy hour and watch the sun make its way down. The buffalo chicken wings are really good! We also tried the grilled cod tacos which were also good. A bit too much cabbage on top but if you take some off, they are tasty. I personally liked em with a bit of hot sauce! Our server was very "hey dude" and we decided to extend our stay a little longer than expected to enjoy more cocktails and sparkling wine. My personal favourite : a topless mermaid. Its a mix of Leblon cachaca and grapefruit juice top off with a lemon zeste. Delish! After a a day at the beach, Whalers was exactly what the doctor ordered. Sure, its touristy. But its Venice! What do you expect?

The Whaler Takeaway next door had a terrible day! The clam chowder was served scalding hot. The kitchen did NOT take the wrap off the salami & meats for the Italian job sandwich so my guy was choking on plastic. The Whaler salad was the saltiest salad Ive tasted full of capers & tasteless ricotta cheese. Even the chocolate chip cookie that was Free for a Yelp check in lacked flavor. When we brought it to attention of management, Joaquin said he reimburse us for half the meal. But so far thats not happened. And to seal the deal a guy came up & ask if the meal was good, we told him not really. He then asked for the leftovers since he not eaten in awhile. Oh well, at least someone enjoyed it.

Visited the Venice Whaler a couple of times whilst on our honeymoon and fell in love with it. The location is superb, just off the boardwalk and Venice pier. The staff were really friendly, the food we had was great and the drinks certainly did the job! Sitting outside as the sun goes down is a real treat, cant beat that view of palm trees as the sun sets. I would visit every time I go to Venice, just a great place to go. During the day is very chilled out, the evening it certainly steps up in to a much more bar vibe, but mostly only if you are inside and in particular upstairs. But thats your call, up for party, down for chill. Either way, I love this place.

This place has a bad rep, but it is all from before the new owners and chef took over. The menu had totally been revamped and is amazing. They have great craft cocktails with awesome specials. My husband found his favorite drink here - the grandfathers chair. I would also recommend there burssel sprout salad, it is my go to item. Service is friendly and excited to be here which is great to see. It has the best location right by the beach so you can look at the ocean from their roof top patio and have great conversation. Here is my break down of my rating: Atmosphere: 4/5 Food: 5/5 Value for Money: 5/5 Drinks: 4/5 Location: 5/5

Came here on a Saturday night, we had skateboards and backpacks , those had to be put on the skate rack and they would keep our backpacks, but if you sit outside then you keep your bag, it was really really busy but we didnt have to wait long to get a table outside, we were greeted quickly and the server was helpful at answering our questions, It was very chill and relax place outside , we had a pitcher of beer, pizza and fish tacos which were really good , the server checked on us a few times and really serviced us, the price was reasonable due to area and place, overall I had a great experience.

Conveniently located bar and restaurant right along Venice beach. Good drink selection and a full menu. Food was pretty good as well. I tried both the chicken skewers and wings. Both were pretty good, tasty, and amply portioned; pretty good for bar food. Our waitress was friendly and provided excellent service. Lots of beach-goers and tourists here. Another reviewer described it as "bro-ey" which I guess is pretty accurate. Overall a great experience and I would recommend stopping by for anyone visiting the area and wanting a drink and a bite to eat.

“EL MEJOR BLOODY MARY DEL MUNDO” Las vistas son una maravilla, en la terraza junto al Pier de Venice Beach, el ambiente fabuloso. No encuentras a nadie que no sonría en todo el local. El servicio de fábula. Hay que repetir siempre.

Avoid. You would be better off buying frozen food and warming it yourself. Their staff seem incapable of even accomplishing this feat. I was in Venice with a group, and decided to grab a quick slice of pizza at the to go window. The wait staff was extremely unprofessional and reeked of marijuana. The pizza was cold, and the crust, well, I saved that for personal protection. I hope the main restaurant is managed a little better.
