Ive been there at least three times in the past and I found the atmosphere festive and fun. The staff is friendly, but too obsessed with handing out samples versus actually servicing the customer. Im not a fan of lines in general, but the staff aggravates the problem by offering endless samples! The couple in front of me had seven (7) samples and I knew this due to the clanking of the spoons into the metal jar. I ordered a full-pint strawberry shake which is $10.50. The server took more than 10 minutes to devise this shake as he struggled to even manage the machine as he remeasured the milk and ice cream several times. I noticed he used whole milk from a near depleted gallon container that sat in front of the fridge below. I got the feeling from the film inside the container the milk might be warm, sour or both. After finally receiving my shake that was stuffed in an undersized container, it was apparent after a few sips the shake was in fact spoiled. I brought the shake back inside and indicated to one of the servers my dilemma who said nothing while he was servicing an existing order. I walked outside and watched my friend enjoy his ice cream cone. No one came out to speak with me, but they were sure to get that overpriced, spoiled shake off the counter. Mediocre ice cream thats overpriced is not my idea of desert, but a consumer rip-off. Needless to say that was my final visit.

The ice cream was certainly the best I have ever tasted and is worth a 5-star review regardless. However, this trip to the ice cream store held meaning that went beyond the cone for my sister, my brothers girlfriend, and me. We were noticeably upset while on the line to get our desserts and one of the employees noticed. He went above and beyond to be a very bright part of a very dark day and he probably wont know how much his gesture of kindness meant. We went to get ice cream in honor of my brothers 27th birthday while on a trip together to California. My brother was one of the flight engineers on the C-130 plane that went down over Mississippi last month. Although the gentleman who helped us didnt know why we were getting ice cream through tears, his generosity helped us to feel that Owen was in fact there to celebrate with us.

I was looking for an ice cream shop because the one I had seen several months ago was non- existent and then I saw two folks emerging from Salt and Straw. Thank goodness as I had no idea as to what the name implied. I went in and asked to taste two flavors - Honey Lavender and Sweet Potato Cassarole with a Peacn Sauce. Both were delicious. After conversing with the staff member who impressed me with his knowledge and tasting two more flavors I ordered the two flavors I requested to taste. They are so-ooo good. Thanks so much for the thought that has gone into Salt and Straws creations. I will return for more ice cream and have been telling friends about the great experience I had. As I had just celebrated my 75th Birthday I was gifted with the dessert. Thank you staff. You all ROCK!

EXPERIENCE. This is what you get when you go to Salt & Straw. An amazing experience. Thats why I will go back. It just so happens, that they also have incredibly delicious ice cream in a variety of novel flavors. It felt like we had our own personal ice cream guide. He allowed us to try any flavor we wanted and gave us some background on each one. He then proceeded to bring more samples over that we hadnt even asked for. He didnt rush us encouraged us to try what we wanted and ask what we needed. There was a line, but he focused his attention on us once it was our turn. Sometimes, you gotta wait in line for a quality experience, and when you get to the front of the line, its worth it. We went on National Ice Cream Day, and Id say the wait time was ~20min. SO worth it.

A very interesting ice cream shop! Salt and Straw has a great selection of flavors that change seasonally. They also have their own classic flavors. I believe that they also make their waffle cones in house as they had waffle machines and their store was filled with the wonderful aroma of waffle cone. Their service is phenomenal as they will slowly take you through all the flavors that you are interested in or want to try. Even though there was a long queue behind me, I never felt rushed. Finally, their waffle cones tastes so good. I think that this may be the best tasting waffle cone I have had to date. Overall, I definitely recommend the Salt and Straw. I will definitely be coming back here again.

Why you should stand in line at Salt & Straw 1. the greatest ice cream youll ever eat* 2. there will be a line, but its worth it 3. the flavors all seem nuts, but theyre amazing. Goat Cheese & Olive! 4. its not cheap, but did ya think the greatest ice cream ever would be? 5. its Venice, so parking sucks, but its the greatest ice cream ever! * weve all had great ice cream, and I have no doubt youre asking yourselves just how good can it really be? its amazing, its like no ice cream youve ever had. take a minute before you order, and while youre waiting in line to read over the menu, theres a lot to consider. No need to thank me.

Heres what you need to know: - The is the Venice outpout of the Portland-native Salt & Straw - Theyve got 8 "always" flavors that are outstanding and then a monthly rotating bunch of flavors that are equally inventive and delicious - Things like White Chocolate Strawberry Rhubarb and Deep Forest Walnut Chocolate are musts - The smell of waffle cones is incredible - Protip: You can skip the link if you commit to buying a pint. Just walk in the side door, pick your flavor from the freezer and pay at the other register - They serve full and half scoops. Full = tennis ball, half = golf ball

I love their small batch ice cream! Each month they have new season flavors that usually fall under some theme (ie. in November all the seasonal flavors were different courses of a Thanksgiving feast). Their classic flavors (that dont change) are always a great (safer) choice, but if you like to try new things you should test the seasonal flavors. I have never had any flavor that I thought was disgusting, just some that were not my favorite. The staff is very accommodating and if you want to sample all the flavors.... you can and they are very nice about it. (speaking from past experience)

really well-made ice cream is most certainly a premium-type experience. and while youll pay premium prices at salt & straw ($10 for a pint), man is their ice cream good. my only criticism, which is common in this part of the city, is the slight pretentiousness. the "roasted strawberry and toasted white chocolate" could be called... strawberry. i wouldnt be upset, because thats how it tasted. then you could tell me later "hey - those strawberries in your ice cream? ROASTED!" and id be all "oh neat". some of the descriptors can almost be off-putting. but the stuff is tasty, so they win.
