Dine in experience- 2 stars Food quality - 4 stars Service - 3 stars Food - similar to Gjelinas restaurant dishes, but available in a deli format, with a selection of baked goods more extensive than the Gjelina flagship. For the pricing, the ambience, especially the patio tables containing sparrow droppings in the wood grooves is poor. Not a fan of the bathrooms with the see through opaque glass filled with barbed wire used for stalls along with the hole-ridden reclaimed wood planks used for doors. Counter service only -- with the exception of deli orders and hot food delivered to the table by bus boys, customers are expected to transport multiple plates by themselves without a tray. For a one plate salad or dessert order with a drink thats fine, but otherwise Gjusta should consider providing customers trays for those who place medium to large dine-in orders. I disliked having to leave my food filled plates on the patio inhabited by sparrows and flies while I had to make a 2nd trip to get the rest of my food -- I used some napkins from my purse to cover them as s result. Such suggestions will go to deaf ears -- Gjusta is raking in the dough from the new generation of Venice dwellers along with tourists. As a local, if I go back, itll be for to-go only or Ill try to snag a spot at the dining counter inside. For around the same amount of money, there are other bakery/cafes (Superba Food and Bread, Rose Cafe) offering cleaner and better facilities and service for dine-in.

The reason Gjusta didnt get 5 stars from me wasnt the food (the prime rib sandwich is ridiculously delicious), the service (staff was friendly and recommended the sandwich), or the location (near Venice Beach, yet off the beaten path). The 4 stars can be contributed to the clusterf*%# ordering process. Not only do you have to take a number, but there is confusion at the counter, as patrons are waiting at the counter, not pulling a ticket (note: is this still a thing? I know this is a common practice at delis or butcher shops. But come on, this is LA....Venice at that.) Not only did I take a number, but with people standing around waiting to order, placing orders, waiting for their order, or just lollygagging (Google help me), you have a sense of "HURRY THE F&%# UP" when your number is finally called. And for a Gjusta virgin, trying to take in the colorful and robust menu, I was luck that they fella at the counter knocked it out the park with his Prime Rib sandwich suggestion.

Sorry.. I cant speak very highly of, what I initially thought was a unique program . Ive been there many times. Referred them many times , to both individuals as well as corporate clients that need caterers. I hope they had a better experience. Ordered a couple of sandwiches and some other things to go with it.. After a 35 minute wait, I thought something had to be wrong. It took several minutes to get someones attention. ( only after being pushy did I get a response). Apparently. From one department , to another there was a communication problem. So my food sat, on a back shelf, waiting for someone to claim. I do not think any effort on there part was put forth. After figuring out that, that was my order. I got a shrug of the shoulders from the girl behind the counter.. No apology, no concern.. I was a little pissed at this point.. I let her have her lack of effort, took my food and left, thinking I just left a very nice tip, as usual!! But I felt guilty for doing so..

Am I the only person who doesnt get this place? My wife and I payed nearly $40 for two small bowls of crafty rice, vegetable and egg as well as one of their famous ginseng teas. The tea was mediocre at best, my wife is Turkish and is very much a tea counisiour, she hated it and I tolerated it only because of the price I paid. I should add that the one dollar sign lable needs to be put to rest as this place is very over priced. The atmosphere felt unique, the food was very good too (extremely small portions though). The bathrooms were some kind of joke. The soap was a gritty powder that required moist hands prior to using and it had the look and feel of a gas station bathroom with a wooden toilet seat and "vintage" faucets. Mehh, just feeling like I got ripped off.. Ive spent a quarter of that price and been more full and satisfied many a times. In short, this place defines the word overrated in my opinion.

Crowded and overwhelming, yes. Memorable and delicious, definitely. Gjusta is a popular (for good reason) restaurant serving everything from pastries and desserts, to cold/hot sandwiches, roasted chicken, fresh salads and health juices, to bagels and lox, pizza slices, and coffee. This is a serious operation- you can watch the organized chaos happening in the large kitchen. A ticket system creates a bit of order in the cramped space. Be aware that youll receive anything that doesnt require preparation immediately, and the remaining of your order will be delivered when it is ready. This break in timing can make dining with multiple people a bit awkward because you can receive your meal as everyone else is finishing theirs... I recommend ordering a few shareable dishes to start. Seating is extremely limited- stop by right when they open and secure a spot in the outdoor space.

Best restaurant, deli, larder, and bakery in town - everything made on premise with their amazing range of foods - hot and cold smoked fish, cured meats, house made pickles, lebneh, granola, and the best sourdough miche Ive had- including France! Amazing salads, sandwiches & pizza too! Its an amazing place to experience any time of day. Dont miss the buckwheat banana bread (I dont even like banana bread and its one of my favorite things anywhere), bialies, vegetables, mini rye toasts with avocado or lox, the nut milks (hazelnut & almond blend), the flatbreads and the amazing staff. They are the best staff anywhere. I live in the neighborhood, but theyve always found the best, staff, especially Michael, Eric, & Knock (sp?).

What an amazing place. The food is fantastic! The atmosphere is charming! The portion sizes are great. I had the roast beef sandwich with shredded horse radish and I took half of it home. . So delicious. My vegan daughter really enjoyed the falafel. The bakery is packed with tasty treats and they have vegan options. Theres a small market with homemade goodies. The beverages are delicious. Theres seating inside and out. The outside seating is in a backyard garden setting and is very charming. I cant do this place justice with my words. Its a busy place but I consider that a good thing. People choose to be there. I look forward to going again when I get back to California.
