I ordered the barbecue Mixed Plate and my friend ordered the burger. Overall the meat quality was great. Only thing i noticed was that they were lacking in sauces. Wet-naps? The customer service was alright. They didnt have horseradish sauce or a mustard sauce. The beans were ehh. The coleslaw was ok. The brisket was really tender and all of the meats were really fatty. Smoked to perfection. The bun was alright on the burger. Next time I am trying the macaroni fritters and cornbread. A really good basic smoke house BBQ that is priced ok..the French fries were decent, crispy and soft inside and I enjoyed the seasoning. The BBQ was tasty. Not too smokey and not too Surgery. Just right. The Carolina sauce was interesting but not my go to sauce. Thanks and I look forward to coming back! I recommend making a bomb Mac and cheese with big bacon pieces inside served in a metal skillet as a side as well! Roman the Critic

I went in for lunch while out for work. I had spotted the place on my drive up and smelled the wood smoke and instantly made my decision. Upon entering the cozy dining area, I was greeted by the wonderful sight of the pit master loading the smoker with big beef short rib racks rubbed in their dry seasoning. I ordered the brisket sandwich which came complete with house pickled onions and pickles. The flavors were amazing. The brisket was cooked to absolute melt in your mouth perfection, and was topped off with just the right amount of the reduced beef fat from the brisket. The bun seemed fresh baked and fit perfectly well with the flavors of the meat and sauce. Overall some of the best bbq arround.

Finally, good BBQ in California. I went to Cochin Volant (aka the flying pig) today and I was amazed at how good this BBQ and fried chicken turned out. In 10 months of living in CA Ive tried 15 BBQ places and have been underwhelmed until today. This is the best BBQ Ive had on the west coast and cant wait to come back. The fried chicken was outstanding and so were the smoked pork shoulder, brisket and ribs. I also had the sausage (came with the sampler), beans, killer fries, skillet cornbread and cole slaw. All was good, but the aforementioned fried chicken, the smoked shoulder, brisket and ribs were off the chart (listed in order of my preference). The Sonoma BBQ sauce was crazy good too.

The absolute best barbecue I have had outside of the Carolinas. This casual but clean spot is easily accessed in Sonoma and is a short walk from the Fairmont. You can order what you want, and as much as you want, of the standard smokehouse meats. We ordered chicken, ribs, brisket and a couple of sides and it would have been too much but it was so good we took our time and ate most of it ... over the top but worth it. The staff were friendly and helpful and we met the owners and even got a quick look at the smoker out back. Great food and great people. Highly recommended!

As a Memphis native, I am admittedly a BBQ snob. While Cochon Volant is not exactly the BBQ I am accustomed to, it is delicious. I appreciate the skill that goes into properly preparing BBQ - low and slow, not even remotely the same as grilling which most people seem to confuse - and Cochon Volant mixes the traditions handed down through my family and classical French techniques for a thoroughly Sonoma twist on the art of the cue.

Wow. This place is fantastic. The Carolina Pork sandwich was rich and smoky and spicy and melts in your mouth. The smoked chicken on the kale salad was wonderfully tender and had great smoke flavor. And the salad itself was a great combo of kale, roasted beets, grapefruit, orange and peanut dressing. One of the best combinations Ive had in a long time. Fabulous addition to the neighborhood.

With my job we travel the entire Bay Area so we get to experience a variety of foods. I personally such out BBQ places and this has to be one of THE best BBQ place Ive found. Very traditional BBQ, Texas Style Q! The meat is cooked just about perfect and a great smoke flavor. If youre ever in Sonoma its worth the drive down 12 to taste what BBQ is suppose to taste like.

Such a great place. California is not known for its barbecue spots. But the folks at Cochon Volant are sure trying their best to make a mark. Great food, casual vibe and a nice change of pace after a day at the wineries. Highly recommend the ribs, pork shoulder and fries. Keep up the great work guys!

On holiday with family, went for dinner. Seating area was a bit small but the ambience was casual and cute. Upon recommendation had the BBQ MEAT Combo, which the whole family loved! Great killer fries and good beer from a tap. Staff were cheerful and friendly. MUST TRY!!
