When driving through Sierra Madre for a refreshment, dont panic. You may notice the Dominos, the KFC, the Cold Stones, and the Starbucks, but I assure you, do not become overwhelmed, as there is a far more satisfying, far less frightening establishment then all of these added together and multiplied to the "Food and Drink" power. Just turn the corner up to Baldwin and you will find a friendly, comfortable coffee house smiling and waving. The inside is cool but sometimes crowded with herds of individuals chatting and reading and drinking and relaxing and jabbing away on their laptops and doing their homework. If you cant find a seat inside, theres always the refreshing outdoors, where you meet a view of the slightly burnt but mainly green mountains. The inhabitants of such a place are always interesting characters. The food isnt remarkable, but its not appalling. In other words, the food on the menu is good and worth a shot. You will be pleased with the coffee - its satisfying and definitely not like those times when you were excited to get a cup and were disgusted with the taste. Nu-uh! The other drinks like smoothies are average, and the ice cream is wonderful. I used to visit it a lot in my childhood just to get ice cream. Basically, I love Beantown, and if you enjoy great people, great coffee and a great atmosphere, you will love it too.

Even before I moved to Sierra Madre (two blocks from Bean Town!!!), I came to this coffee house. Although their actual pure coffee is not my favorite (Im a coffee snob, and prefer coffee from a roasting house over places that purchase it later - try Pollys Coffee in Long Beach for this sort of coffee), this place has the perfect feel to it. The whole town knows this fact - you can go in any hour that theyre opened for business, and find the locals relaxing here. It is a warm, friendly, relaxing place - perfect after a hike in the hills or a walk around town or a sleepy, drizzly weekend morning. Excellent hot cocoa, wonderful pastries, and they even get their ice cream from the amazing Alhambra-based indie ice cream shop Fosselmans (also a worthy place to have a great cup or cone!). They have a good library of games, a number of comfy chairs and tables for socialization, and they also host some terrific bands on occasional nights. Worth the out-of-the-way trip.

The food was great, but the customer service was not just bad, it was rude. The one employee with the tats snapped at me and my family when we asked the simple question of weather or not breakfast was still being served. Then when I returned our plates, I complimented him on how good the food was and I thanked him, he snatched the plates away and didnt even acknowledge I was there. You can at least fake a smile sir. The young lady that works there was nice though. She is the only reason why I am giving them 3 stars instead of 2.

Bean town is an adorable place located in down town monrovia. Upon walking in I thought it really reminded me of the Coffee House set from the hit TV Show Friends, Immediately I felt in love ! A bit more modernized with big screen TV but brick walls and old orangey couches. I decided to order a blueberry banaza smoothie, apparently they use fresh fruits so it felt refreshing and a bit thick. I def. want to come back to try their other pastries in the future!

Nice little cafe in Sierra Madre, Southern Californias hidden gem. Staff is courteous, food was so so. The sitting arrangement is weird and hard to find sometimes. Place is packed in the morning with many (kind and friendly) senior citizens getting their joe after their walk. Many bring their pets and sit outside the cafe. Free wi-fi!

You walk into this coffee shop, and you feel like youre in some fictional small town on some TV show, yet astonishingly, youve just stepped into a Sierra Madre Institution. To get out of the hustle and bustle of LA, head to BeanTown, where youll be reminded of what small town living used to be like.

I come here because I refused to give in to the corporate giant that shall not be named. And they have free WIFI and pretty good coffee - it doesnt hurt that I like the pastries, either. Maybe its the cinnamon bun with walnuts that I crave weekly, but Im here at least once a week.

Bean Town Rocks... Get there early for the cinnamon bun without nutz!!! Sometimes it is a bit slow in line and sometimes the staff is a little grumpy but it is always worth it! Besides... if you want safe, sterile and generic, there is a $tarbux around the corner. Fight ON!

I love Bean Town! My first visit was 20 years ago when my son started attending Sierra Made Community Nursery School. Here today with that same son! Coffee is still great, ice cream is always a fav. The menu has changed over the years but overall, feels like home!

Bought the grilled cheese sandwich that a few people touted. They used the very basic of sandwich bread placed one thin slice of cheese in it & charged me $4 for it. Never again. The cost should have been more like thirty cents tops! Screw-em, save your cash.

Love the family and cozy atmosphere and their chai tea lattes are fantastic....havent had their sandwiches, but they look good. Finally they were bought by new owners about a year ago and it doesnt seem to have affected their food or service...still good

The drip coffee was tepid and bitter, and espresso drinks were unavailable when I visited. The patio furniture was dirty. There was only one person on staff as far as I could tell, on a weekday afternoon. Street parking only.

Neat place! I try to stop by everytime Im in town visiting the in-laws. It reminds me of the place I worked at as my first job, Java Cafe (before the owner killed it). Good ambiance, like a cool neighborhood cafe circa 1992.

A classic towns coffee shop with delicious coffee beverages. Tables and seats fill with friendly clientele, students and adults. Its what Starbucks would feel like if it wasnt so loud and crowded!

Now this is a coffee shop. Smiles all around. The smell of coffee in the morning or anytime is always uplifting to me. After a bike ride or a nice walk we stop here to enjoy a cup of Joe.

Decent coffee, Wi-Fi, and wonderful staff. A staple in Sierra Madre. I dont know why folks support Starbucks instead... no accounting for taste I guess.
