This used to be one of my favorite pizza places in Santa Monica, until recently. Back when it was called Stella Rossa, I would say the food in general was slightly better than now, but the food is still great here, so no complaints there. However, the service seems to have taken a deep plunge. Our servers did not seem to be very interested or truthful. We ended up staying over an hour and a half there, and as they say, time is money. All of our orders came separately, and some of our group had to watch us finish our meals before they even got their pizza. Twice, the server told us that the pizza just got into the oven, only to be brought to us 20 minutes later. 20 minutes for a pizza? I have been to places where it takes less than two minutes to cook a pizza! Fortunately, we received some apologies and some extra food along with it, so I shall give them 3 stars for their effort. Also, the restaurant is quite busy, especially on weekends, so expect waits.

Ill try to make this quick. Im a local and have been here 5 times. The pizza is never "bad," but its in no way ever "great," but with the prices as they are you would at least hope the pizza was better then just "ok." If the price for a pizza was no higher than $9.99, then I would probably feel fine eating here. So if you want a good pizza in a trendy bar/pup environment full of people, and in the Santa Monica/Venice area, you are best off going to Gjelina on Abbot-Kinney. If you just want a simple slice of fine pizza you can go to Joes Pizza on Broadway near the Promenade. If you want the best in LA (in my opinion) you will have to leave the area and drive out to Mozza on the corner of Highland and Melrose. Its worth it. Skip Stella Rossa. (For what its worth, Its at least a good place to be in a crowd full of good looking people. It does have that going for it.)

My least favorite pizza in Los Angeles. Over rated, over priced, and the salty and flavorless food in no way warrants the crowds. Im a huge pizza fan, so Ive given this place 4 tries and it consistently disappoints. The pizza crust has always been slightly burnt, with the crunchy texture of saltine crackers. My group of friends has started calling their food "Crackers and Ragu". The sauce is never flavorful. The servers, who lack urgency in every sense, have always acted like the terrible food is my fault and I should be happy that Im even in the restaurant. When my friends recommend dinner here, I usually pass and choose to enjoy pizza elsewhere. The cookies are pretty good, but I would never go out of my way to get one here.

We walked up the hill about 4:30 after a day at the beach, leaving our car in beach parking. Had a toddler in tow and they were very accommodating, giving us a table in the back corner at our request, where he could play at the window sill and not bother anyone else. All the pizzas were good except my gluten free, which was burnt around the edges. They offered to make another one but i opted to just eat the non-burnt part in the interest of time. It tasted fine. Still, they comped it. The manager even came over and explained that they were having a little trouble figuring out the gluten-free crust and apologized. I would definitely try it again, given how great the staff was and the easy access from the beach.

I walked in on a busy Sunday afternoon and the hostess let me know it would be a 20 minute wait, the entire time we were waiting she kept checking in on us and letting us know any updates. Basically letting me know she hadnt forgotten about us. Once we have the opportunity to order food we split the big hero sandwich and a pizza. The big hero sandwich was out of this world delicious, a tad spicy but the flavors were so good it didnt matter. It could honestly put bay cities to shame. We also got the Mushroom pizza with the white sauce and that was wonderful as well. I cant believe Ive lived in Santa Monica for three years and this was my first time here! It was absolutely delicious and I cant wait to go back!

Fire your chef and line cooks and check your waitstaff. Who in the right mind would dump salt on top of a pizza with proscuitto, parmesean, and egg. Salt +salt +salt = a bad experience and dry mouth for a whole 2 days. Not to mention the wait staff doesnt even check to see how your meal was, but they manage to chat a amongst one another and check their phones on the floor plenty. Although none of this wasnt unexpected since it is attached to the horrific m street cafe where management does not exist. Already never going back to m street and adding stella barra to that list.

My favorite pizza spot in Santa Monica. I would give it five stars except the service is not always as good as it should be. But the pizza always more than makes up for so-so service. I recommend the Bloomsdale spinach pizza that features crispy, organic kale and spinach with a white sauce, roasted garlic and pecorino cheese. Or you might try a half-and-half pizza with 1/2 pepperoni and 1/2 Bloomsdale spinach. One of their secrets is that they let the sourdough pizza crust rise for 18 hours. I actually think they make the best pizza in the USA.

Got the crispy brussel sprouts and prucitto & egg pizza (w.o the prucitto). The portion sizes are pretty big (not for single dining) and the pricing reflects that. The crispy brussel sprouts was definitely my favorite and could have served as a meal by themselves. Recommend this dish highly. The pizza was ok, a little too salty. I ended up saving most of it for the next day which was not a good move (it doesnt taste good cold or reheat very well). The staff was very nice, the music was good (a little loud) and the atmosphere was great!

Great food, but the guy with glasses from cookie-counter has a problem checking his tablet for online delivery order. I live close by and order through Grubhub all the time to pick up my self. Whenever I see that tall guy with glasses working , I know he would tell me that he forgot to put in the order and I have to wait around an hour for my pizza. So annoying and sometimes he would lie that his tablet is not working. Why he was hired in the first place. :(

This is probably the best artisan pizza you will find on the west coast. Ingredients are always rotating and locally sourced from farmers markets. I recommend the prosciutto and farm egg pizza and the fresh burrata plate. Service is good and its a hot spot any time of the week. Be prepared for a long wait on the weekends. Even if you dont live in Santa Monica, its worth the drive to eat here.

This place is only open after 4 pm. It is worth a trip though. Watch the fresh pizza dough rising in the glass jars. When the dough is light from a second rising and chefs come here after work then you know you have something good. Start with the barrata - quantity and quality. Reviews in town have given this tiny place better marks than Pizza Mozzo -- Nancy Silvertons eponymous place.
