There must be a reason why I have avoided this place for the past five years, after experiencing rude service and mediocre food when I came to 99 chicken the first time five years ago. I made a mistake giving them a second chance recently, it turned out my second experience was even worse! The owner forced us to buy more plates, and forced us to pay tips. The chicken are super expensive, costed $18 for 10 pc. of drum sticks and wings, they tasted bland. Chicken in El Pollo Loco taste much better with more flavors, and are much cheaper. The salad bar was a joke with very limited selection. The tofu pot was the worst Ive tasted in my entire life. Everything was so bad, and we just wanted to leave. The female owner had the audacity to come and asked us for tips. It was a self service and we did not get any service from them. Isnt it up to customers to decide whether or not to tip? I thought Koreans are well mannered, guess I was wrong. I wonder how they mange to survive with such bad tasted and expensive food and lousy customer service. I made a mistake giving them a second chance and I am so done with it! They dont even deserve one star, zero is more appropriate.

The shop itself is pretty small. The first thing that you notice when you walk in are the pictures of happy customers on the wall. Theres a free salad bar that you have access to if you choose to dine in. When my boyfriend and I go our menus, we noticed that there were very strict rules on how you order and what you could take out. We ordered the combo for $18.99 but found that we could not get both the mild soy sauce chicken and the spicy soy sauce chicken (number 9). They did not let you do "half and half" flavors. The waiter made it clear that we had to choose something else for our second entree so I chose the spicy sauced chicken (number 2). The restaurant itself felt pretty cold and unwelcoming, but at least the chicken itself was really good! I think that the sauce that they used for the number 2 was some variation of sweet and sour, but the crisp and the overall quality was mouth watering. Overall, the quality of the chicken was worth it. I would suggest take-out.

Been a while since Ive had korean fried chicken so didnt have too many expectations. The was not too long at 8:30pm on a Saturday night. We got seated within 15 minutes. There are only a handful of items to order (a few kinds of fried chicken and some other korean dishes). You get access to the salad bar and self-serve water/tea if you dine in. There was plain fried chicken, a couple of spicy ones, a sweet honey one, and a new one - garlic soy sauce (and you can choose whether its spicy or not). We got a plate of the spicy one and a plate of the garlic soy sauce (spicy). The salad bar was a nice touch. I really enjoyed the radishes and other veggies. Definitely cuts the strong flavors and friedness of the chicken. I definitely liked the garlic soy sauce over the spicy fried chicken. Both had a sweet undertone. The latter was almost too sweet and I thought the sauce was too thick. The garlic soy sauce was not too sweet and had a nice kick to it.

This place still remains the top for me when it comes to korean fried chicken! Dont get me wrong, I love Bon Chons fried chicken but this place has the best sauce :D Their chicken isnt as crispy or well fried as Bon Chons chicken but it is still pretty good and their sauce is just ridiculous good which is why I come back. I think most places can make a pretty good fried chicken but they dont have a signature sauce and 99 chicken does which in my opinion makes them stand out. I am in love with their soy sauce chicken and their spicy sauce chicken! It is finger licking good! Plus they have complimentary rice and salad which i also love because I can eat my veggies and feel slightly less guilty im pigging out on their fried chicken. Their price is pretty good, their service is good, and their chicken is delicious so what more do I need? Nothing else because they even provide gloves for you to eat with so your hands dont even have to get dirty!

My cousin finally got it right... Yea, really simple fried chicken, korean-style of course, with tangy, spicy sauce. Kool place to hang out. They leave a rice pot for you to serve your own rice and some complimentary pickled radishes. Really good and simple food, and very addicting. Only downer is that the place is pretty small and can get really crowded. Really seems like a popular place for the korean-community to stop to have a bite. I am totally coming back, and probably suggest them build one in Modesto, otherwise Im moving to Santa Clara!

Another reason why in so glad to have moved to the South Bay! As a self proclaimed fried chicken aficionado 99 chicken is one of the best South Bay restaurant a to get some deliciously and perfectly crispy fried chicken. With a salad bar access for customers it wipes away all the guilt when you order a half and half order of spicy and honey fried chicken. Actually after writing this Ive started salivating. See you there! Come early, theres usually a wait!

In the world of Korean friend chicken, this place piles it on high, but lacks some quality. Their sample plate is a good way to try everything out and hit up all the flavors. The chicken is juicy and large, but its drenched in way too much hot sauce or honey. Salad bar and plain rice is complimentary, but its nothing to write home about. They also have plastic gloves at each table if you dont want to get your hands dirty!

I think theres too much hype about this place. Just not my cup of tea I suppose. The crispy chicken does have good texture, it actually is crispy and flaky. But the flavor is just sweet. The "spicy" flavors are not spicy. But dont get me wrong, its worth a visit. Its not bad food, and you should go at least once to form your own opinion. Perhaps youll get your picture on the crazy walls!

Service may be a little slow, but the restaurant is overworked at peak times. Regarding food, there is a good amount of different fried chicken options to choose from. Glad to see there is a pickled radish option as a side, but the sides self serve area may seem a little bare. Water jugs are also in the self service area, if your chicken is too spicy for you.

The agjima here is rude. She came to our table and asked me why I was still eating as the table next to us had already left. Wow, just wow. That being said the chicken itself is fine and the salad bar is included, which is nice as fried chicken can get repetitive really fast. But no matter the condition of the food, rude behavior is uncalled for.
