Came with a friend after we found out tommys, was closed in Tuesday (this a thing now?) Ive always wanted to check if out and happy that I did. Cozy atmosphere, attentive and friendly staff, and a very hot owners daughter type lady? with good sense of humor. :) (I hope especially after this lol) The food is not the Mexican food at the other tia ms, or tommys. And its not Gordo, or mission st, or taco truck. So its great. I like the food at all those other places too btw ;) Its like trying your aunts variation of something youre used to eating at home and know versions of at every cousins house and grandmas for the first time. Its a little bit different, but good. Next time having margaritas and calling a cab to take me to uber :)

Terrible food. Terrible service. Your choice between Salsa from a bottle (more likely a can) or salsa that is hot but has no flavor. Shovel it in with stale half eaten bowls of chips they just leave on your table... They recommended the $20 carne asada which was burnt, beaten and had the flavor and texture profile of bad Beef jerky. Seriously, Im going to take you boys to my place for a nice carne asada. Cause you dont even know. Plates are stupidly proportioned. "Look how much of nothing we offer." Failed the litmus test. Beans and rice were flavorless and nothing but filler. I dont mind paying more for good for in this city but this place is a dump.

Terrible Service and a very watery margarita(after watching it sit on the bar for 20minutes before being delivered). I really wanted to like this place but the service when we went was terrible. I think our waiter must of been a promoted bus boy as he had very poor server skills. He was not friendly, sat down chatting at the table next to us to chat with his friends for 20+minutes while we waited for our drinks(DURING FRIDAY DINNER RUSH) and never even came by to ask us how we were doing. The place was packed and I had heard good things. The food was large portions and pretty good so maybe we will give it another try on a less busy night.

The food is very average which sucks because at first it looks very authentic. They lack variety in their menu. I had the green enchiladas and they are decent with good amount of chicken. The thing I didnt like was the lettuce side with salsa on top as if it was the dressing. That is not Mexican. The margaritas on the other side are very good. I had the Top Shelf frozen one and its delish! Would totally recommend them. The atmosphere is good, I sat in the dining area behind the bar but the horseshoe bar area had a lively and fun vibe. Id say thats the spot to be in.

Ate here last night with my good friend.  I had the chile relleno and he had a much better tasting combination of chicken and steak, both grilled-ish. One thing I dont like about this place is their zealousness of pawning off more and more booze.  My friend had a glass of margarita and when he barely finished that one, was offered another, which he managed to drink just halfway through, if not less.  High pressure when someones already drunk isnt my idea of graciousness, or good, cordial service.

Every time I walk into this place it has the same familiar customers and staff; consistent and STRONG margaritas; and decent food dishes. I love that the margaritas are prepared with Hornitos tequila, triple sec, and lots of fresh limejuice. Is the food authentic Mexican food? No, but the portions are huge; unlimited chips and salsa (hot and mild); and staff are friendly and awesome. The décor is old school and in my opinion it only adds to the neighborhood hangout charm.

Went on a Thurs nite & the place was jumpin, a good sign in this economy. The experienced Wait staff, friendly and efficient! Ordered the Carne Asada, recd a generous portion - all food fresh & delicious! Very good Margarita! Yes, they do push them, but what the hell, Im an adult & know when to say no, and no one was offended! Parking is tough - found a space on Geary & walked over. After all the food I needed the exercise! I highly recommend this place!

havent been here for a while, but i was pleasantly surprised thursday night when our food turned out quite excellent! they seem to be doing portion control now though, theyve probably been watching gordon ramsay on tv, sad, but i am delighted to say that the food was very much upto par! the drinks were a bit watered down, and waitress a little on the just serving the man of the table chauvanist style, but at least the food was good. hence the 4 stars.

We were ignored when we walked in and ended up seating ourselves. Service was slow and pretty awful. Trying to pry our servers eyes off the football game to get me a drink refill was tedious! The food isnt what Id call "Mexican". Neither is the decor or choice of music. The salsa tasted like canned tomato sauce with some cilantro and onions thrown in... Maybe a nice place if you just want to sit at the bar, but I was not impressed *at all*.

Tias is a good, not quite hole in the wall Mexican restaurant with quality margaritas, large plates and traditional Mexican food. Be prepared for a lot of food as the meals come on huge platters and include rice, beans and in general a lot of food. The margaritas are good although a bit sweet for my taste. Very casual restaurant with a busy atmosphere.

Their margaritas arent bad. The old Spanish lady who always waits on us is always partial to the men on the table - ha, ha! Theres never any parking..  The food is so-so. Why come back time and again you say? Its better than Chevys, plain and simple. Being the Parkside dweller that we are, this is as good as it gets around here :(

Established 1963 and the decor and some of the wait staff are original (check out the salt and pepper shakers). Straightforward and decent standard Mexican food and good margaritas. Lots of regulars and families. I would eat there again if in the neighborhood, but would never travel here for a meal.

What a fun place! I went there on cinch de mayo so it was packed (although Ive heard it is always packed). The food was good, it was the typical whole in the wall Mexican place , but had great drinks! Its not a place that Id frequent regularly but it was good! Again very typical mexican food!

This is a more bang for your buck place. Compared to Tommys its subpar, but the price gets you twice the portions at half the quality. Im not a fan of that sort of business model, but if you wanna get a bunch of food and clear colored margaritas for a cheap price, this is the place to be!

Ok food, "top shelf margarita" was straight tequila (could be a positive?), server was rude, short and only came by only three times and had to ask him for EVERYTHING. Atmosphere is attractive and it may be a nice experience under a better server, but our experience was not very pleasant.

Killer portions and a consistent good margarita (on the rocks with salt). Going around the block to Tommys will get you chips that are slightly better, but the competitions margaritas are inconsistent. This is a go-to for the wife and I. Combo plate served on a platter? Yes please.
