Golden Rules of Wine and Travel
I found a surprisingly sophisticated outside with an inside to match. I dont know if it is because the bakery I have in my head is filled with pink-dyed confectioners sugar, but this was a nice and refreshing bakery reset. While I was there, I heard that for their first year anniversary a few months ago, they turned their shop into a clichéd cupcake shop for the day. I think I could feel the remnants of the sprinkles. With the color palette being gray, black and white with some brown thrown in, the impression is both clean and modern. There are different kinds of seating options around (stools and long tables inside and smaller tables outside) which seemed to make all customers comfortably happy. The packaging for their prepared products matched the whole aesthetic. On their shelves, they have selections like Passion Fruit Olive-Oil Curd and Matcha Milk Jam in beautiful jars, but I (of course) picked up the Smoked Almond Brittle (above). I had friendly and quick service that wasnt laced with any pretension. I was tempted to order Our Damn Fine Granola, although it was the time of day that you could have ordered one of the wine options. Instead, I went in looking for the "Rebel Within". The "Rebel Within" is their famous $7 savory muffin (made with Baccalone sausage, green onions and a soft poached egg)... that apparently, they dont make enough of every day because they werent available when I arrived. Do I recommend Craftsman and Wolves? Absolutely. Also, if you see a "Rebel Within", buy it and ship it to me. Ill reimburse you. I obsess over baked goods that get away and need closure.

FINALLY made it here for the first time last weekend. And then again this past weekend. Given how often I go to Dandelion, its a surprise I hadnt stopped by earlier - okay, fine, I actually had no idea they were so close to each other. Anyhow, last weekend I picked up their rebel within (of course), and a chocolate croissant stack, while this past weekend, I got another rebel, and tried out their strawberry yogurt honey cake. While the croissant was a little lackluster (to be fair, I didnt toast it because I was too hungry), the cake was fantastically delicious, and the rebel was wonderfully enjoyable too. As a pro-tip, the rebel is dramatically tastier if you take it home and toast it. Im not entire sure why this isnt offered inside the store, because it makes a huge difference - my best guess is time, or concern that theyll harden the egg inside. For the DIYers, pop it into a toaster oven at 250F for about 20 minutes: you should get a toasty and crisp exterior, while maintaining the gooeyness of the soft boiled egg inside. ***Accessibility Info*** Venue - While the space is quite large, accessible seating is a bit more limited to the mini and larger shared tables up front. I do believe the rest of the seating I saw was counter height, but dont quote me on that. Bathroom - Didnt check them out.

Nice sweet & savory pastries, sandwiches, soup, small plates. Just a block from long time nationally recognized patisserie Tartine Bakery on Guerrero and 18th Streets

For someone who loves interesting flavor combinations as well as a clean design aesthetic this place is a baked goods heaven. The Rebel Within, a muffin with a whole egg baked in the middle, is truly a San Francisco must. I never fail to squeal with delight when I slice it in half and the runny yolk drips out artfully. Other highlights are the Devil, a chic little chocolate cake with subtle savory elements (before the California ban took place it used to be contain a foie gras surprise at the center and was known as the Devil Inside), and the Thai scone which somehow stays on the sweet side despite the green curry. Do yourself a favor and take an afternoon off from work, make a reservation for their midweek-only afternoon tea service. This is not a cliche frills and frou-frou tea party! Its a modern, delicious, masterpiece. I cant wait to see what they do next.

Stopped by this cafe for breakfast on a rainy Sunday morning. Seating is limited, but the two of us were lucky enough to snag seats at the long high top tables after waiting just a few minutes. I wouldnt come here if youre expecting any type of privacy. There was a first date going on RIGHT next to us and I heard every single word (sadly wasnt very interesting). I had to try the Rebel Within after seeing the pictures on Yelp. I prefer savory over sweet, so this muffin was perfect for me. I have no idea how they keep the yolk runny inside, but it was awesome. The muffin itself was moist and had green onion and sausage that paired nicely with the egg. Id definitely come back to have it again the next time Im in SF! Also, dont forget to check in on Yelp for 15% off :

Innovative pastries at this clean and upscale bakery. Ive had various baked goods here and theyve always been fresh and well-made. The Rebel Within is a savory muffin with a whole soft boiled egg inside. The engineering of this feat is impressive however the taste wasnt. Even with the ham and scallions in the muffin, I wanted more salt and pepper or soy sauce or chili sauce. Something. Aside from that, how fun is it to slice open a muffin and find a surprise like this inside. (A rather pricey $7 surprise.) What is the best way to eat this? Slice in two and eat it like you would a bagel or toast? Bite it whole and try not to make a mess with the oozing yolk drip?

This is the most beautiful bakery I have ever visited. The space is minimalist and clean, a nice break from Mission District mayhem. At the counter, I was delighted to find a lineup of creatively reimagined pastries, sweets, and cakes. While the price for the pastries is set a little higher, it is clear that a great deal of effort has gone into the presentation of the baked goods and sweets. Each item seems to have something to say. In my case, I ordered The Rebel Within for $7, a delectable combination of cheese, bacon, scallions, and egg. If youd like to see what a truly innovative bakery looks like, I highly recommend paying a visit to Craftsman & Wolves.

I dont do the bad stuff, so I never tried the Devil Within, and I havent tried the Devil Without in the time since. But Ive tried the breads, many of the pastries, the coffee, and the yummy goodness of the hot caramel with croissant shavings. The latter wont really take the place of your daily caffeine beverage, its more like a drinkable dessert. As for the interior, I once read somewhere that its as if Neiman Marcus opened a pastry shop. Its very upscale while still maintaining that very San Francisco cement warehouse/loft feel. The staff is nice enough, but they have wrung me up wrong a couple of times - just keep an eye on the cash register.
