My daughter and I went in for lunch today. This was our fourth visit, Ive definitely had better Indian food (the naan is actually delicious), but it is a convenient location, and my daughter likes it. As usual, the place was dead when we arrived just after 11am. I attempted to sit at our usual four-top table, but was told that we had to sit at a two-top. I explained that my daughter, who is only three, does better if she can sit next to me on one of the bench seats. The waiter insisted that we must sit at a two-top. Why? There are literally three other people in the restaurant, further Ive never seen it busy. He finally acquiesced by turning a two-top sideways, but to what aim?! So that we can sit at a cramped table too small us?? We easily could have sat the the four-top immediately next to us. By the time we left, there had only been five patrons in the restaurant. I definitely think fighting someone about what sized table they should sit makes sense. On a lesser note, they didnt refill my diet coke. My three year old commented that they needed to refill it, but apparently she has a better grasp of customer service than anyone at the Clay Oven. Between this strange encounter, and the consistently poor service, we wont be back.

For lunch: good! For dinner: meh. I have been here twice, and I really enjoyed the lunch, which was an all-you-can-eat buffet for $10.99. The food was fresh and tasty, and there was a good lineup of items. I had tandoori chicken, chicken masala, and lamb curry. It also included perhaps the freshest naan I have ever been served. All that being said, I was not happy at all the time I went for dinner. They charged for everything, including naan and rice, so having one dish with rice and naan cost $16 before tip. It didnt end up being that much food, either (granted, Im comparing to a huge lunch). All that, and it wasnt even that good: my curry chicken was kind of dry. In short, this is a great place for a hungry person who wants an Indian place at lunchtime; for dinner, Id recommend going somewhere else.

Restaurant was pretty empty on a Sunday night (Monday was a holiday). We were the only other table there (4 people total there). The food portions seemed relatively small compared to the prices we paid. Not to mention that the curry dish we ordered was pretty tiny and dried up pretty quickly. The nan was yummy though, as well as the crispy bread appetizer that was complementary. We ordered some lamb with rice dish and chicken with curry dish. Both meats seemed quite dry. And for the nan, we ordered one regular and one garlic. Both were good. The rice dish was a good size while the curry dish looked like a small sauce dish. The service was very good though. The waiters were pleasant and always smiling.

Went on a Sunday night, it wasnt busy, just a good amount of people to make it comfortable. We ordered Vegetable samosas, Dal and a Paneer, with some rice and naan. The food was good, just a touch spicy not too much, tasty not too salty. Service was not warm, however it was helpful, I asked for no dairy in the Dal and the naan and the waiter made me feel it was absolutely not a problem, which I appreciated. As a vegan this place has plenty of options, the vegetarian options are the first page of mains! I thought the price was reasonable, including the price for wine. The place is nicely decorated with indian rural life scenes painted on the walls and it seemed clean. I will go back.

We made Valentines Day reservations and had, by far, the worst dining experience in our lives at the West Portal Clay Oven. We waited a half hour for our first appetizer then another half hour for the main course (Vegetarian Thali). Finally, after we finished our meal and the table was cleared we waited another 15 minutes before flagging a passing waiter to request our bill. One couple left after screaming at the head-waiter about the non-service. The food was great. The service was absolutely horrible. I would have accepted an apology or an explanation for being ignored but these folks must think its beneath them to explain. We will never go back to this chain again.

The Beet & Cumin Soup was simple, but very rich and smooth. The Sprouted Mung & Paneer Salad was okay, but could use more paneer. The star was the Mixed Mushroom & Truffle Oil Uttapam. A delightful pancake, with a nice amount of truffle oil. There were plenty of amazing vegetarian options, including the dosas! Pistachio Barfi was good, like a fancy...granola bar. Which is a weird thing to say, but I mean it as a compliment. Its layered cashew milk fudge, ganache and pistachios. Hard to cut, but tasty! We had reservations for a Tuesday night, and it was necessary. It was packed even mid-week!

This was legit. If you are looking to try a whole smorgasbord of bomb beers and have some awesome food then you have arrived. I found Hogwash on yelp when I was in town for work. I am so glad I gave it a rip. Not only was the beer and food better than amazing but the staff was awesome as well. As an out of towner I felt at home. It certainly isnt a dive but if your family ran a bar/restaurant you would probably treat your guests the way that the bar staff treated me.

Lovely food, excellent service. Everything our group tried was delicious (pappadum, naan basket, cheese pakoras, chicken coconut curry, cengan bhartha, chicken tikka masala, punjabi fish curry, aloo saag, kashmiri biriyani, kheer and mango kulfi), but the chikken tikka masala was particularly memorable. Oh, who am I kidding -- everything was great!

The WORST! Ive never had such bad food before we ordered saag paneer which was not edible, butter chicken that was barely edible and had so many bones including a broken toothpick the garlic naan was so chewy I gave up trying to eat it. Overpriced to top it off. Our delivery arrived (to hotel no less) without utensils or napkins. ugh, horrible!

Visited this place twice. Vegetable briyani was good. But, the buffet does not have many options for vegetarians. On the day when i visited once, the service people were fighting and there was too much commotion in the kitchen. Need to improve on service.

Place looks very clean. Blond indian waiter was cool. Didnt take much, which i like. Chicken masala was good, a little too sweet. Not bad, the indian buffet on lombard st is my fav. Price here was average 40 big ones for 2 people. Indian Tea was great.
