Was told by a friend that this is a must visit as they were the originators of the clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls! We happened to pass by this place when walking along the wharf! So obviously had to get the clam chowder! The person giving me the chowder was so cheerful and nice! This made me excited about the chowder! As I sat down to dig in my chowder, I put the first spoonful of chowder in my mouth. Somehow it was cold. I was confused as chowder is a soup that is generally hot. I went back the the person and she gave me a new bowl! They had to change the chowder they were serving as they didnt hear it enough. This time the bowl was warm! As I enjoy this chowder, I found that it basically had no clam! Now I went back to her and she gave me more soup and this time with clam in them! I just think that made too many mistakes that shouldnt have happened. I think theres other places Id check out before coming back here again. I tried the petes coffee and it was really good so Id recommend that!

Good food, but I have to give less than one star (if I could) for the extremely rude cashier. After I ordered three bowls of soup, I asked if I could get parking validation for the Fishermans Wharf parking lot. The cashier then looked at me impatiently, and then INSULTED me IN FRONT OF the several people waiting in line. She complained that she has to walk ALL THE WAY to the other side of the restaurant and its going to take a long time. When I went to pay for the parking ticket later, I had to pay $18 for 1.5 hr parking, the first three hrs shouldve been free with validation. She DID NOT validity my ticket for me after all. What a bad experience in Boudin. Its a shame that they hired someone so rude and unprofessional.

Tourists from all over come to Boudin for their famous clam chowder and bread bowl (unfortunately I cant attest to this, Im not a clam fan). I work across the street from Boudin and have found it to be both a curse and a blessing. Boudin is one of the better, less greasy options on Pier 39 for lunch. They have decent grilled cheeses, tomato soup, and turkey havarti sandwiches with their dee-lish sourdough bread (come on, how can you come to San Francisco and not have some sourdough bread?). However, the prices are high for an everyday lunch and the menu gets somewhat tiring. I would definitely recommend this if youre looking for something easy in the area but wouldnt come back repeatedly.

The service in this place was just ridiculous. We couldnt get even a class of water without several requests. One fellow diner remarked "the clam chowder sucks; its poorly spiced and bland." On top of that there were no available condiments on the table, which was crusty on the edges, to say the least. Another couple chimed in, "They forgot to bring us the $50 bottle of wine we ordered. They all seem very irritated by our excessive spending." A busy restaurant would explain this, but we dined after the rush, with only three other tables active with guests. Another patron summed it up; "we felt neglected, like baby lambs without their mothers; lost in the world without any water."

The Boudin Bakery was our first meal of our stay in San Francisco and we were not disappointed! From the moment you walk in (after dragging yourself past the kitchen viewing area) the staff are cheerful, genuine & helpful. Our waiter (could kick myself for forgetting his name) was polite, chatty, helpful & offered intelligent options after finding out it was our first time there. The food was fresh, light and tasty with a good choice available. The sour dough bread is to die for (this coming from a couple who have no real time or liking for bread in the UK). The view over the pier is brilliant and the decor suits exactly where it is. Perfect start to our honeymoon.

Great experience, touch to find a seat. I visited early July and it was crowded. The food was a bit expensive for me for the portion size. Given that, the clam chowder in a bread bowl has plenty of good bread! Plan ahead and find seating if you have a big family or party. Being a party of two, we were able to find a place a the window bar. They try to keep up with cleaning after guests, but I can tell its difficult with such a crowd. The menu is simple enough to make choices, but varied enough to appeal to a group with varying interests. i think that helps speed up the long line. Be sure you start in the correct line for lunch, and not just the bread line!

If youre visiting the area you must try Boudins at least once for the best sourdough bread in the world. Ive had the clam chowder bread bowl, sourdough pizza, roast beef sandwich and garden salad. All were above par except for the sandwich which was average. Decent beer selection. Fun place to walk around. Casual fast eatery downstairs and sit down cafe upstairs with more selection on the menu. There is also a museum upstairs which is well staffed and full of fun facts and exhibits. The bakery is at the center of it all so you can see how they make the bread. The downstairs is busy but they move customers through very efficiently. Recommended if youre In a hurry.

There were pigeons walking around on the tables and behind the counters and the staff didnt seem remotely bothered like that was normal! On top of that the girl who took our order came across as rude after I asked her to elaborate on what some of the items on the menu were. The food was nothing to write home about and the selection much more limited than at the main Boudin Bakery up the road. Overall incredibly disappointing especially after seeing how good the main Bakery is just a bit further along The Embarcadero - if you have your heart set on Boudin go there instead.

We ate in the Bistro. The location of our table was probably the coldest place in San Francisco. It took over 40 minutes to cook and serve a marguerita pizza and an omelette. Gary(?) our waiter tried his best to keep us entertained but with limited results. The omelette contained a maximum of 3 eggs and a little crab meat and was served with a few small roast(?) potatoes and a green leaf. Cost? Around £20 sterling, just for the omelette. The extra star is for the toilets which were the best feature and the warmest area of this expensive money pit.
