TERRIBLE FOOD, TERRIBLE SERVICE AND VERY BAD ATTITUDE!!! Went here for dinner during our San Diego visit after being tired from a daylong outing. Found it extremely bad on food quality and customer service. The waitress was terrible at service and was very very rude. She forgot the drink that we ordered ( was supposed to come before the meal) , when the food arrived and we politely asked it to be cancelled as it was too late we were just told "okay"- with no concern at all. Food tasted horrible and we had to wait for minutes to get their attention to bring us some salt-note that the place was not so busy, there were not more than 5 tables occupied. Midway through our meal we thought of trying a different curry as the ones we were eating tasted really bad and we were too tired to go to another place and start dinner all over again. They made us wait for more than 20 minutes (i mean it, 20 minutes) only to come back and ask if we were ready for the cheque... seriously ???? I reminder her that we were waiting for the second part of order and for that she said " oh , yes you ordered more. We are currently busy and it will come whenever it is ready".. woww, couldnt believe what i heard "whenever it is ready??". We had made our mind to finish the meal and never come back to this place again- but seems the evening wasnt bound to end so easily. After another 10 minutes of wait she got us butter rotis, we had to remind her again that we had ordered without butter- same as our first order. Again her reaction was really bad, just picked up the tray, said "alright" and left. Worst part is yet to come - instead of doing new rotis they brought the same rotis back after socking the butter with a paper napkin or something. This was for the first time when i complained but it fell on deaf ears. Finally, she got us the check which billed for the drink that we never got. I requested to talk to the manager at this point on which she said "absolutely you can, he is busy right and will talk to you whenever he is free" After 10 more minutes ( by now we had spent 1hr 30 minutes in the restaurant) we got the manager and i had to tell him the whole story. The manger showed some concern but only after we stressed that this is not the kind of service anyone expects.. About food- it tasted really bad, definitely not worth trying even for take out- would rather grab a sandwich from subway!! Registered this as my worst experience so far.

I was nicely surprised by Urban India. I was skeptical because of its location, a space occupied by several restaurants in a short span. Also, the name didnt seem like it would be authentic. My girlfriend and I found a free entree coupon in a local magazine and went to go check it out. We did peek at yelp before hand as well, which gave us more confidence. Once at the restaurant, we quickly learned from the waiter than this place was owned by the same owners as Sher E Punjab in Sorrento Valley. I had been to that restaurant and thought it was good. I can honestly say I think this restaurant is better. We ordered the Gobi Manchurian... a rarity in on the West Coast and especially in San Diego. We also got the Onion Bhaji. Prices were very reasonable. Both items were very good and worth a try. The waiter suggested I try the Butter Chicken and he was not wrong. It was delicious! My girlfriend got the Mushroom Masala, another rarity and it was excellent. It had a home cooked feel to it and that definitely showed in the quality of all the food. Give this place a shot, Id like it to be around for many years!

My co-worker asked: "Do you want to eat at a 10$ buffet for lunch". umm...yes of course I want to only spend 10$ for a BUFFET! And that is how I discovered this place. Near the end of the Gaslamp district on 4th street, the hidden restaurant has the typical assortment of indian food, but in buffet style. They seat you down almost immediately and you can grab your own plate and choose from a selection of 12-16 items I think, as well as some fruit near the back of the restaurant. They have 2 different kinds of rice, different variety of curry or some other vegetarian curry looking food. Im not sure what I was eating though because they left the authentic Indian names above the food. They also had tandoori chicken, and these really good cake balls that is smothered in some kind of sweet syrup. You also get a basket of deliciously soft pita bread which is a great combination for the rice and some of the curry looking things. I actually wish they gave you more but I wasnt sure if you can ask for more.

Among the worst restaurants I have been to. Went there with 3 other friends, we had to wait more than 45 minutes to get our appetizers. This also when the restaurant was not super busy(about 60%/occupied) Even after asking the server(and even the owner) we didnt get any updates or improved service. When the dishes finally arrived(it was like a year and we had lost almost all of our appetite) they were useless , the sizzlers had under cooked chicken. Save yourselves the trouble and try some other restaurant.

After seeing all the good reviews I had high hopes for this place. We went for lunch but did not do the buffet as we were not that hungry. We got chicken tiki masala, samosas, naan, and mango lassi. The naan was the best thing we got. The samosas were also decent. The lassi was way too sweet and the masala tasted like they had just added the chicken before serving the dish instead of cooking everything together for a long time. Service was good. I probably wouldnt go back.

I was a little worried after seeing the previous reviews, but we had a totally different experience. We showed up for dinner late on a Sunday night, service was fast and took care of everything and the food was great. We got the onion bhaji, the chicken tikka masala, the chicken korma, and paneer stuffed nan. Everything was really good, especially the onion bhaji which my fiance and I both loved. We will definitely be back!

Best Vegetarian food in Downtown San Diego. They have a lunch buffet that we all love. I have friends who are vegan and this is where I take them. They also have meat dishes. I love Indian food. The Butter Chicken is one of my favorite dishes. I have been eating Indian food for 18 years. I always eat at the Urban India because the great customer service and the food is always flavored with such rich spice.

The food was delicious! I ordered a vegetarian curry with lots of vegetables, and it was so perfectly creamy. My bf ordered a very spicy chicken curry that was almost too much for him, but he said it was so good he had to eat it. The bread we ordered was perfect as well, the staff is very friendly and kind, the place is very colorful and clean. I loved this place, I will definitely be back.

Meh...went to the buffet on a Wednesday about 1:30. The service was fine, but the food was just OK. The Tandoori chicken was down to a couple of peices and they were a little dry. The nan was fresh and a few of the other choices were good. I was just a little disappointed in the variety and the freshness. In comparing this place to others I frequent at home...it was mostly a miss.
