I was staying across the street at the Doubletree Mission Valley and thought "Why not? Its an $8.99 Indian buffet dinner." I grab a Perrier from the fridge and pay for myself in advance. The friendly whiskered man (henceforth uncle) takes $11 and change, hands me a tray with a plate, and invites me to enjoy the buffet behind me. On the right is chopped salad, riata, and chutneys (mint and tamarind). Next was the rice, samosa/pakoras, navrattan (veggie/cheese) korma and aloo gobi (curried potato). The main offerings were a fried paneer (cheese) curry, curried daal (lentil), tandoor (Indian BBQ) chicken, butter chicken, and gulab jamun (indian donut holes in honey/syrup). I took some samosas, rice, butter chicken, and daal. When I was done with the samosas (ie quickly - I inhaled them!), one of the ladies behind the counter calls me and presents me with freshly baked naan bread! Oh, thank you, auntie! Its just what I wanted! My samosas were delicious with tamarind chutney. I took a spoonful of daal. I enjoy the earthy texture of the lentils and savor the decently punchy flavor of the spices. None of the dishes are really more than a "medium," but there is still a nice presentation of flavors beyond the usual American restaurant standbys of "salt" and "greasy." The butter chicken is butter chicken, its a reliable crowd-pleaser. No complaints. Both the daal and butter chicken were excellent when sopped up with naan bread. I decide I need another round, this time adding some salad and grabbing a few pakoras. Uncle obliged my gluttony with a fresh plate. I decided to spend the extra couple of bucks and buy kheer (indian rice pudding). Gulab Jamun is too sweet for me (although I didnt try his), and I love kheer. Uncle hooks me up. I feel better because uncles acquaintance sitting behind me destroyed three plates of deliciousness. The kheer was of the gods. Flavors of sweet milk and cardamom topped with cinnamon dusted crushed nuts together bring me joy. I went home happy.

Ive probably been to at least a dozen Indian restaurants in my life and the food here just wasnt that great. I usually resort to chicken tikka masala. I called to order ahead and it was ready in less than 5 minutes - It almost seemed too quick. Upon eating it, the masala sauce was lacking in flavor, seemed almost watered down, and the chicken in it was very tough like it had been just overcooking in the sauce all day long. The only really good part of my meal was the garlic naan because it was cooked fresh and pretty good. The other food wasnt disgusting or anything, but just didnt taste fresh. I would rather resort to a different place next time I get Indian food.

Great vegetarian options. Ive been looking for a good and lower cost Indian place for a while. This place hit the spot. I dont know about the non vegetarian option because when I eat Indian food I only order the vegetarian items. The Samosa are great. The sauces are well prepared. And the Naan is fresh! So good. Im going to go back and try other options. Ps. Im not vegetarian, but why would you order chicken in an Indian place? The country is known for their vegetarian and Ive heard the lamb dishes are good.

The food is edible. Its just not good Indian or Tandoori. McDonalds version of Indian food. I love hole in the wall mom and pop places, but the meat was rubbery and bland. Sauces dont seem to have any curry in them. It wasnt awful, but the best thing I could say is that it might taste alright if you have never eaten Indian food ever before. Like the cooks dont know what Indian food is supposed to taste like. Im going to try every other Indian place in SD until I find something good.

The most horrible indian food i have ever experienced! The tandoori chicken was rotten from the inside I bit into it and I threw up from the rotten after taste! We opened the rest of them and they are rotten from inside and they smelled very nasty! I am very sure that it was expired for a very long time! I have never experienced such thing in my life, Not even in third world countries! That was nasty! And disgusting and i do not recommend this restaurant to anyone!

We especially enjoy the buffet meals at dinner time where there is a good assortment of curry, vegetables, rice, bread, etc, but you can get excellent meals ordering a la carte as well. This is a relatively small restaurant with very casual seating. You order at the counter and then get your food when it is ready. The prices are very reasonable and the food is very good.

I am visiting San Diego, felt like having Indian food. After an hour of research, decided to go to Tandoor. Ordered chicken tikka appetizer, its rotten and has a foul smell. Main dish lamb curry was half cooked with a chilli powder sprinkled on top. Worst food I ever tasted. I request who ever read this review, please think twice before you go to this restaurant.

I always think the portions are too small, and every time its perfect! I get the Chicken Tiki Masala every time. Big lean chicken breat chunks, with naan bread freshly baked, lentils and so on...Medium spicy is perfect! Tandoor is the best Indian food in SD but just a bit spendy $8-9 for the chicken tiki masala...no left overs.

Ended up here after trying another Indian restaurant down the street, that was "closed for maintenance". Friendly staff, reasonable prices, the food was out to us fast and was delicious. Two of us ate dinner for $20, and for SD thats a deal. And above all, the lamb was actually lamb, not beef. Will definitely be going again.

I have to assume the people who gave Tandoor one star are associated with their competitors. Ive been eating here about 5 years. Ive always enjoyed their service, and food. What got me to go back the first time was their garlic Naan. Now I go back to Tandoor for everything, of course I do have my favorites.

Incredibly authentic. Chicken Tikka Misala and Garlic Naan are out of this world and the staff is super fun and engaging. Mango Lassi is a must here if youve never had it before try it out! Their buffet is killer too

We tried Sunday Brunch, tandoori chicken was not good. Not marinated properly. There was no paneer in palak paneer dish. Mint chutney was actually green colored chutney. Sunday Buffet wasnt worth.
