If you want good sushi at reasonable prices, and are in OB, this is the place to go! I tend to go here a lot. The sushi is really good, and I happen to live in OB so I dont have to drive. Im really surprised I had to search for this place online so hard considering that their sushi is better than many other "fancy" places Ive been to in San Diego (including ra and rock)! Very friendly staff; never had any sort of a problem and Ive been there 20+ times! The atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired if youre looking for flashy or something - Its more like youre in someones home or something. However, if you dont care about dressing up and being part of the "in" crowd, and just want great sushi at good prices with friendly staff, this place is for you!

I chose this place based on its good reviews. My first impression was upsetting. The older woman who seated us didnt seem very welcoming and appeared bothered that I brought children. She barely spoke other than to take our order. She gave no eye contact nor did she smile. Now fast forward 10 mins. as we were eating our food, she seemed to have done a full 180 and was talkative and she actually addressed us. She turned out to be a really nice and funny woman. I think she was overwhelmed by the rush of people when we first arrived. The food was great!!!! Taste and price was amazing!!! I do recommend this place to all. The portions exceeded what youd normally see at a sushi bar.

As OB residents, this is our favorite sushi joint. The prices are reasonable and the rolls all have a very good portion of fish on them. The regular rolls feel like a steal when compared to what youd get for the same price at other places on Newport. The only downside is that even though we order online and show up at the estimated time, we pretty much always have to wait. There have also been a few misses (over many visits): the protein roll is not very good and the edamame portion is small for some reason. Overall, definitely recommend!

You definitely dont get what you pay for at Sapporo and I mean that as a GOOD thing. The prices here are better than any other sushi joint youre going to find in OB or anywhere surrounding for that matter. Yea, sometimes the rolls could be a little tighter, but the fish is delicious, the seaweed salad spot on, and of course, the Sapporo is cold. Top it off with the fact that their staff is OB friendly, youve got yourself a winner for sushi.

I couldnt love a restaurant more than I love Sapporo! I used to come here every Monday when I lived in Ocean Beach, but I moved to TX a few years ago so my visits are few and far between now. This is always the first restaurant I eat at when I come to SD. The best part, my favorite waiter remembered me tonight and it had been 2 years since my last visit. Great food, great atmosphere, great people!

Im from the east coast....but this was hands down the best sushi i have ever had! Incredible service and amazing and fresh fish. Melt in your mouth yellowtail, joe roll is fantastic. Atmosphere is just what you want from a little sushi joint. Everyone super welcoming and laid back. Even the guys rolling sushi at the counter in front greeted us with a smile and bid us a friendly farewell!

Walked in, sat at sushi bar, was ignored for 15 minutes with numerous servers within inches of us. If you want to see the fish but not eat it, this is your spot. The location ensures that poor service can prevail with little or no effect on business volume. Had to walk out having never interacted with a staff member. Went to The Joint which was terrific.

I had the chicken teriyaki and mixed tempura. It was delicious and reasonably priced for the amount of food. My partner had sushi which was also delicious. This is a charming Japanese Restaurant just steps to the beach. I like the fact that they offer both sushi and non sushi dishes. I noticed that theyve won best sushi several years in a row.

Sapporo was our favorite restaurant when we were living in Ocean Beach - we would go there at least three times a week! Loved the Beef Teriyaki dinner which came with rice, salad and miso soup for around $10. Great value. Also cheap Bud Light on tap from the friendly bartender. A highly recommended restaurant.

Best sushi in all of San Diego. Its 1) actually ran by Japanese people, not Koreans or Chinese folks. 2) awesome prices 3) best bartender: Joe 4) totally rad owner. Been coming here for years and my mom (whos full Japanese so she knows whats up) loves this place. So. Go here.

I lived in Japan for 3 years so I know good sushi. When it comes to America this is one of the better ones, especially for the price. In San Diego I know of no other place with this quality for this price. Owner is a Japanese lady who enforces Japan quality.

They have a great cali roll special that is quality and quanity. Its advertised outside on a whiteboard with a sick wave illustration. Nice service. I worked across the street on Newport ave and would go here all the time for to-go sushi to eat while I worked.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in San Diego. There is a sushi bar and normal bar. This is more of a casual place. The service is really good, the workers are very friendly. The food is reasonably priced with deals during happy hour.

When it comes to bang for your buck food, nothing beats Sapporo Restaurant. But when you add the personable servers, attention to detail, and welcoming atmosphere, it just makes this place a gem among all of San Diego.

Not the best, but very decent Sushi. Very friendly staff and full bar. Priced very reasonably. Decor is meh, but if you in walking distance and want Sushi, its a sensible choice.

Great local sushi dine in, with a wood bar and great customer service. Not too pricey, recommend the volcano roll and anything with eel in it, to start some popcorn shrimp

Sudi was a great host, and the sushi was top notch. You cant beat the location. Save some room for a hit waffle ice cream sandwich right next door also.
