Date of visit: 10/6/2016 Ive had a couple of close friends go veggie (*coughMonicacoughIssac*), which is a good thing for the environment, so Im definitely trying to support when I can (but sometimes you just can beat chicken adobo and rice). Since I never get to see Monica, I wanted to make sure that we were able to eat somewhere unique with a lot of vegetarian options. Thanks to Yelp, I was able to find evolution fast food. Everything offered here is vegetarian, if not vegan, which is awesome. Lemonade. I believe the lemonade is made in house, which really shows. It wasnt too sweet and definitely went well with washing down our meal. If youre thinking about getting the lemonade, Id definitely recommend it. Fries. The fries here taste like fries, which is all I want from fries. They were nice and fresh when we got them, which was nice. Theyre also thicker cut, which I enjoy because I like the middle to be softer. These went well with my burger. South of the Border Burger with Black Bean Patty. This burger was really good. I enjoyed the guacamole and amount of veggies provided with this burger. There are too many burger joints that think meat and cheese is the only way to a good burger, but Evolution definitely gets the balance between their patty right. Im starting to become a bigger fan of beans, so I actually did enjoy the burger, but the one I made at home will still be my favorite (you cant beat homemade most of the time, sorry). Special of the Day - Pesto Mozzarella Burger with Black Bean Patty. Cams not really into vegetables, much less a vegetarian, but he really enjoyed his burger. It helped that there was a lot of cheese included with this burger and the pesto was quite tasty. Again, like my burger, there was a good portion of vegetables, which he also enjoyed. Veggies really help round out a burger and prevent the heaviness of the grilled patty and melted cheese take over the dish. Overall, I will definitely be back to Evolution if Im in the area. Its a little far to drive for a veggie burger, but a great place. We havent experienced the drive thru, but I think its worth it to come in the evening and relax in the patio - its super cute back there!

I knew I was out of my element when I overheard a customer discussing "big corp soy" and the life of Krishna with his friend. Im not a vegetarian, nor a vegan. But I wanted to try a new place and ached for something healthy. I walked in a little scared, knowing I didnt belong. The looks. The rasta hair. The beards. It was all new to me. I was sure someone would talk me into a yoga session at any moment. No one did. I went ahead and browsed the menu and ordered the South of the Border burger with a black bean patty. As for a drink, I picked the Magic Elixir. Perhaps not the best choice for my first juice ever. The front of the restaurant looks extremely small, and there is no AC. However, the back patio is huge with plenty of natural breeze. You wonder how youll ever know your food is ready for pick-up since the place seems to be somewhat disconnected. The answer? A PA system. They call your name when your food is ready. The burger was huge and extremely delicious. I love spicy food, and this definitely had a kick thanks to the jalapeños and chipotle sauce. Throughly enjoyed the patty and the guacamole. I dont know what kind of bun they use, but it was really good. As for the Magic Elixir, I wanted to do some magic of my own and make it disappear. No, the restaurant didnt do anything wrong. It was me, and an erroneous decision. I wanted to try one of those natural juices, but this was too strong for a beginner. It contained apple, beet, carrot, cayenne, ginger and lemon. It also comes with garlic, but my cashier must have sensed I was a newbie and asked if I wanted the garlic too. Obviously I said no. I did my best at drinking it, and I somewhat got used to the flavor after a while. Its supposed to help improve your immune system, so I have that organic juice to thank for staying healthy so far. Like most of the reviews mention, Evolution Fast Food can be a bit expensive. I didnt know about the combos, so I ended up paying about $16 for my lunch. You get what you pay for, and what I got was pretty good!

Their website reports that they have bike delivery, and I (being a strict vegan who only eats from veg kitchens) planned my trip to San Diego around that. They don’t have bike delivery. Being the only veg kitchen around I had no option but to walk 2 miles up there even though I really didn’t have the time. Once I got there they totally messed up my order and tried to make it seem like it was my fault. I have to believe that there are some disgruntled workers there because I don’t understand how you can mess up something as simple as 2 veggie burgers add avocado and 2 fries, but they did. I only had one order of fries, and I later discovered that only one of the veggie burgers had avocado even though I was charged for it on both. Also, I asked for it to be packaged well for walking and was given a small soggy brown bag loaded down with the food. I travel rather frequently and this was my worst customer service experience at a veg restaurant. When I told the woman (short dark hair, tells awful “jokes”) about my missing fries she denied me having ordered 2 orders and told me “I’ll have to charge you for those” and that it would take 5 minutes to prepare. I just left without the fries. The food was way overpriced for the size and mediocre at best. Larger vegans will need to spend 15 dollars or more to fill up here.

Ordered 4 burgers. 1 plain beef burgerwith bacon only no vegetables or cheese. It came a bean burger with cheese lettuce and tomato. Second burger was bacon cheese beef burger no onions as 1 of our group is highly allergic and it could kill him. Guess what burger was again bean burger but had onions even though the receipt said no onions. This could kill him so I call and the manager says they cant issue a refund and that its not their problem if I cant come get replacements. I was also told they cant refund the card charge. So they tell me they cant refund us and its not their problem. I hope the owner reads this and explains to the manager that sending out food that can kill someone or send them to the hospital and then saying he doesnt care its not his problem is legal neglegence and that he could loose his restaurant. This is unacceptable and as a business owner myself I would fire my manager on the spot and do every thing I could to make it right. Im at San Diego comic con and I will express to every vendor I know not to eat at evolution. If my friend had ate the burger and we would be at the hospital now I promise evolution would be under new management and closed. What a joke this place is.

Isnt it great that us weird people have our own dedicated places to eat now! Gotta love that and its reflected in these reviews. In reality there can and should be a lot more both in variety of choice and quality of ingredients. Heres our lunch breakdown. The curried potatoe and spinach soup was quite nice and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The chili was marginally edible and way too salty. Considering that this should be food to heal oneself with, the level of saltiness should (at least to an extent) be left to the choice of the final user. I saved that in the fridge for tomorrow but will turn it into 2 portions of soup by diluting the saltiness with some water. Paid for it, will eat it! My wife had a black bean burger. It looked pretty and felt hefty when held, like a proper burger should. The taste however was off and closer inspection showed that it tasted rancid. No Bueno on the cheap Frijoles patty. Just make them fresh, please! What also surprised me was the lack of a vegan mainstay - the salad. Please get some salads going. With todays wonderful choices of ingredients and millions of great recipes theres no excuse not to have a few amazing salads on the menu.
