This is the best restaurant Ive ever dined in, under every aspect. I am Italian and I love food, and if I could I would dine there every day. They serve authentic Italian food, with real Italian recipes and ingredients, so dont go there looking for parmesan (parmigiano is a completely different thing) or fettuccine Alfredo because those are just American inventions. There are three different dining areas, each with their own special things about them, and two private rooms. The waiters are all exceptionally nice and they are all professionals, you dont see college students serving here and you can tell the difference. The bill can easily reach $50 per person if youre having more than one course, and even pass that mark if youre drinking wine, but you can also get a perfect lunch for under $20, like many places which dont even come close to offering this kind of service and atmosphere. I had my wedding reception here, and the Catering Manager gave me her full attention even though my party consisted only of 10 people. We had the nicest private room for no extra charge, two great waiters only for us and a personalized printed menu, lots of wine and champagne and no time limits. It was just perfect, all of our guests were absolutely amazed and loved every bit of the reception. And all this for $100 per person, including a HUGE tip that we happily gave them because they deserved every cent. Weve been there several times, and always left perfectly satisfied. The menu changes very frequently so you can always find new choices, and they have special weeks with regional cuisine. I cant recommend this place enough!

Seriously good authentic Italian food. Both the hostess and our Italian waiter were very friendly. The first starter was on the house (classic bruschetta with really ripe tomatoes and basil infused olive oil) then we had the rustichella with goat cheese, red onions and olives, which was also very good and enough for two to share. We had Pinot Grigio and Primitivo, both great choices. My husband had fresh pasta of the day and they happily prepared it for him only of shrimps without salmon as he doesnt like the latter. He really loved the creamy tomato vodka sauce. I had tagliatelle alla bolognese which was perfect in every way, it was all dente, hot, with the exactly perfect proportion of ragù to pasta. We both ordered our pasti in Secondi portion/ as main course and were happy with the portion. After all these we couldnt resist and shared a delicious Panna cotta with mango and strawberries. My husband also had a very good espresso just as you would get it served in Italy and a generously measured glass of grappa. We felt the bill was in good relation to what we got. Our impression of the food, staff, restaurant, wine and location on this Sunday afternoon was enough for five stars and we sure would return and/or recommend this restaurant to our friends.

First of all i will mention, that we waited 15 minutes before our "italian" waiter showed up. We wait another 20 minutes only to be told the 200$ bottle of Champagne we ordered "may not be in stock" we waited another 10 minutes before he showed up with the champagne. The food was okay, a little on the cool side. The service was awful, with the prices we paid the waiter should have been AT THE VERY LEAST refilling our champagne glasses. Instead my fiance had to interrupt his own dinner (because hes a gentleman) to refill the ladies glasses. Our table was cleared before we were really done with the meal and then we waited another 20 minutes for our bill. The waiter lost his attitude and accent at the end of our visit when he picked up that we were NOT happy with the service we were given. We were extremely disappointed in the service and will not be returning. The quality of the food and the service did not live up to the price. We recommend if you want great service and good food and an enjoyable time, you seek it in one of the many other Italiano restaurants around Sacramento. Round table would have had better service.

Went for my bday dinner last night, with high hopes, having eaten at Il Fornaio in SF, we had high expectations. I chose the tasting menu, with a flight of wine. We were informed that the only choice for the entree was the duck, okay, I guess?? I was served the flight of wine, by the waitress who grabbed a glass from another table and then poured all three in the glasses that were sitting on the table. I would have thought they would be brought with each course. For my entree, I was served an unappealing half of a duck, lying on its side, next to some greens and some potatoes. I was shocked, especially when all I had to cut with was sort of a dull knife. This for $130!!! The first course soup was good, and the gnochii was bland. Bummed.

The dining room is spacious and beautiful and the staff is well-trained, for the most part. Sadly, the food is just average including their regional specials. We had booked a private dining room and had to wait almost 15 minutes while the hostess continued to answer the phones instead of seating our party. It would have been nice if the customers in front of them took priority over the customers calling. For what amounted to an average meal it seemed expensive. I probably wouldnt go back.

Jessica was very helpful in recommending dishes for my wife and I who are vegetarian. She still managed to provide us with good service even while managing a large party of 12 plus 2 other tables. The Butternut Squash Ravioli was great and made on site. Not like the frozen reheated junk at Olive Garden. We will likely be back here again. We recently moved and are looking for good restaurants in the area to go back to from time to time. Id say this one made the list.

Nicely appointed environs in a spacious dining hall with lively atmosphere and delicious food all make for a satisfying evening. Service is top-notch and graciously accommodating - even the management is actively engaged in serving and appreciating guests - all of the excellent hallmarks that make Il Fornaio a dependable choice for fine-dining enjoyment. I look for one wherever I travel and Sacramento did not disappoint. Kudos.

Hello everyone! The dinner is delicious. Although we arrived a good 30 minutes late for the reservation, we were able to get a table. Very friendly staff. The garden area is beautiful! My friend and I shared the Italian tasting which is a 3 course. Very different flavors if youve never tried true Italian. The entree is decent size. We also received a wine bottle opener. We will be returning

Il Fornaio is a rare thing - a chain that actually cares about quality and service. We were lucky enough to be at this one in the pre-opening phase. We keep coming back. They offer regional specials, a good wine list and great service. Weve also been to the one in Pasadena and there they keep up the tradition.

Il Fornaio went absolutely above & beyond to make my husband & Is second anniversary one to remember. We are brand new to the neighborhood and could not have picked a better spot to celebrate. The food was delicious - fresh made in house pasta & desserts that you simply cannot pass up! We will certainly be back!
