Guys, Listen Up! I am lucky to have the Union Hotel as a family tradition since my grandparents first met. It is one-of-a-kind. Although their food makes my mouth water just thinking about it, what makes the place truly special is the feeling of family and tradition that lives in the place. This comes from a friendly generous family that has run it for so long. They have maintained their warm welcoming attitude and commitment to sharing “from scratch” food like they had invited you into their home. When you go there you can see the history on the walls and in the hall where you can almost hear the band playing on the bandstand for the dancing crowd. The smell of the minestrone soup wondering around will make your mouth water but that is just one of the tasty appetizers that are brought out to you before you get into your meal. I wish I could say more about the menu but since I first went to the Union Hotel, all I have ordered was the raviolis. They are so amazing I can’t imagine asking for anything else. There is so much good food there but try to save room for desert. The fritters are amazing. And it’s all so good EVER time. Guys, this is a place to take the keepers. Make this your own tradition and besides, your stomach will never be so happy.

I cannot say enough good things about Barbara Gonnella, her family, and the staff at The Union Hotel. Luckily, my family and I have been enjoying the magic there for many years. 5 years ago our daughter and son-in-law had their wedding reception in the Bocce Ballroom. Our friends and family still comment it was the best reception they had ever been to! The food at The Union Hotel is CRAZY delicious! Raviolis better than grandma used to make, unbelievable world class bruschetta, a house that salad is scrumptious ... and that is just the beginning! We love the charming family style atmosphere, inside and out. In Summer and Fall we enjoy having our meals on the patio. And the BAR! A time warp indeed! You just have to enjoy a cocktail or two at the bar while appreciating the welcoming spirits of another time. We also have had the good fortune of renting all of the beautiful Occidental Guest Houses available for visitors. Each property is uniquely appointed with pleasing decor, unparalleled views of the local beauty, and comfort to make you want to return again and again. Give yourself and your family a gift of time together, make some lasting memories at the Union Hotel in Occidental.

This is my go to spot for some great homemade Italian food. I live in the next town over and I am glad to make the 30 min drive to Occidental for their amazing chicken parmesan! I also love their raviolis, chicken pot pie and the Clam chowder! So delicious! The food is great but the service is even better. I swear the ladies and gentlemen who work there go above and beyond the call of customer service. Ive been coming here for the past 10 years and Ive never encountered a grumpy or rude server. For example, this past mothers day myself and 20 other of my family members went there for brunch. It was really busy and I thought to myself hopefully my server is not grumpy or in a rush. To my surprise our server, Jamie, was so nice and cheerful! Her easy going and relaxed attitude amongst the loud room made me feel so great. She took the time to chat with me, took everyones order and was on top of everything. For such a large party I was super impressed. Thank you Jaime and the other Union hotel staff members for always making my experience there wondeful! You guys are awesome!

Great pizza, pasta, pizza, breadsticks, and PIZZA! Youve got to try the Garlic Gold. Ive worked many summers at a camp up the road, and Union pizza is a tradition for us. The staff of the Union are always friendly and happy to accommodate our huge groups. There are a couple dining rooms, a patio, and a bar. The whole place has a wonderful aura that reflects their long tradition as a warm, inviting, and high quality restaurant, and a social center for this lovely, little, rural area. And the food is some of the best Italian Ive ever had, definitely the best at the Unions (very reasonable) price point. If youre anywhere in the area, definitely make this a destination for a date, a group, a party, or a drink.

We have been going to the Union Hotel for 50 years. The food is incredible, the atmosphere is wonderful, and the staff are so kind. We grew up going there from the Bay Area and have taken our family there countless times. We had our daughters wedding reception there. AMAZING! Barbara, the owner is now like part of our family. Also, their rental properties are terrific. Neat as a pin, affordable, and quaint. We love Occidental and the Union Hotel! Long Live the Union Hotel! PS Their ravioli are to die for! And the bruschetta! Great! Did I mention their pizza? Thank God they now have a restaurant in Santa Rosa. You have to go!!!!! Don

Our pasta dinners came with bread, bread sticks, butter, salad, soup and anti-pasta. Every bite and spoonful was delicious! We ate and ate and ate until we needed to ask for to go boxes. Our waitress was both delightful and effective. My fussy teenager who claims to hate minestrone soup finished his second bowl after commenting it had a "smokey flavor to it, this is really good." My youngest son commented liking the candle light and said he could just sit there all night enjoying it. Looking around everyone was having a good time at their tables. Union Hotel, Occidental offers an outstanding food and dining experience.

This is a family restaurant. Even if you are not part of a family, you are brought right in. Waiters are always friendly, and the place has that old-time under-the-redwoods feel that is so comforting and relaxing. I go here frequently -- food is good and the prices are quite reasonable. Im lucky to be close by to such a consistently great place, but if I werent, it would be one of my destinations in this vacation area. Also -- make sure you load up on their chocolate muffins and their blackberry/apricot turnovers. I definitely made friends at work by bringing these in during busy times.

You know this place was my favorite place for almost 20 years. Would drive from the bay area several time a year. Hadnt been here in a couple years after moving to Humboldt County. Ive been back a few times recently and was shocked to hear that the pizzeria was closed. Almost every time I went we ate in the pizzeria. Easy menu, good prices and its separate from the formal dining area. But now its closed. So Im dropping this to 4 stars. You can still get the pizza menu but your whole table has to agree. Otherwise you get the dinner menu where youre forced to order soup and salad.

Where to start.... salad was good, breadsticks, oh the breadsticks were amazing! Clam Chowder was excellent, good selection of wine, the hamburger wasnt the best I have had, but no complaints, I guess that is what I get for ordering a burger at an Italian place. Although after all the starters I was hardly hungry for the burger anyway. I will definitely try the pizza next time, my husband had it and liked it. We sat on the patio which was beautiful, great atmosphere. All and all I was very pleased and will definitely be back! Quaint cute little town.
